Common Questions and Answers about Monocryl ethicon

monopril

Avatar f tn You could have developed an allergic reaction to the sutures and this usually depends on the composition of the sutures. They are catgut (plain/chromium), vicryl monocryl or vicryl rapidel. This is more so because you have developed the rash on the suture lines. Anti histamines from the mainstay of therapy. Though short courses of steroids are given for more severe symptoms. Discuss with your doctor regarding this.
Avatar n tn Hate to keep posting about the same thing but I have researched a lot of patients now that have problems healing when they have. Ethicon absorbable sutures. Blue braided suture. Ask what type you have. I had necrosis from them in my throat. I have found many breast reductions patienst as well as tummy tucks. Drs and Patients watch out for this. The manufacturer has already settled o n a class action lawsuit regarding another similar suture called Vycril (sp?)suture.
Avatar n tn I have very thin skin, and the fact that I am pretty much allergic/ultra sensitive to most if not all suture material out there and have severe inflammatory responses as a result (with the exception of Monocryl), chances are that I may reject other foreign material such as alloderm and strattice as well.
Avatar m tn Ask the Dr if the stitches used were a ble braided sticjed made by a company called Ethicon. I too had similar problems w these sutures in a platysmal plication. I have found 100s of patients so far w similar problems. It is the same co that was sued in a class actionb for a suture called vicryl. I think anither lawsuit is called for! Please contact me at ***@**** I am still haveing issues 2 years post op. Necrotzed fat and lymph nodes etc. 3 surgeries so far! These are FDA approved sutures.
Avatar f tn thanks for your post. My facelift and necklift were done 9 weeks ago. The doctor did mention that the bumps on my face are along suture lines. I will ask what type of sutures were used. My neck is just generally lumpy and swollen - some days it is better than others. My neck issues seem like something that might resolve in time.
Avatar n tn Well I am not a Dr but I have experience w persistant swelling and wierd similar syptoms post surgery when deep disolvable sutures were involved. I am pretty sure they r also used in a TT. Ask your surgeon if he used a polypropylene stitch commonly used. Perhaps manufactured by.a co. Called Ethicon. It is FDA approved so it's not the Drs fault if that is the cause. It was most likely the cause in my case. (No one will ever really know why) I had an xray and a ct scan done.
Avatar n tn To me, it feels like frgaments of the polypropelene braided suture material (Ethicon brand) still embedded in my tissue working there way out and causing the tissue reaction. We have treated it with antibiotics and prednezone and it subsides but the little lumps are still there. Not visable but can be felt when palpatated. Could scar tissue cause the inflamatory response? Or is my theory of suture material more likely?
1964358 tn?1326564159 I had occasional stress incontinence before the surgery, but none since. I had read about the controversy and lawsuits involving TVT, Ethicon brand in particular, and discussed this with my doctor. He said there are different types and he would not use one of the questionable ones, though I don't know what brand he did use. I plan to get a copy of the operative report for my records. My hysterectomy in 2010 began as laparoscopic but then he had to do it transabdominally.
Avatar n tn Hello, Whether the hives appered as an allergic reaction to the dissolving sutures or not depends on the material of the sutures and your body,s immune reaction to that material.Mostly dissolving sutures are catgut(plain/chromium),vicryl,monocryl or vicryl rapide(latest and least allergic). Although your doctor is suspecting the stitches to be the source of allergy, but it is seen that many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known.
