I understand that mixing Xanax and Alcohol can have serious negative effects. However, my question is mainly about Xanax, and in regard to how long it stays in the system to the point where it is dangerous to mix with alcohol. (i.e., is it dangerous to drink alcohol after 1 day of not taking Xanax?..2 days? etc). Another question, how serious are the long-term effects of drinking alcohol WITH xanax?
I doubt it's from the beer if the last time you drank was 6 weeks ago. Are you in therapy? It would probably help if you were getting some sort of counseling for whatever the reason you were prescribed xanax. What are going through right now?
FWIW, drinking with xanax is a good way to kill yourself. My son's best friend recently OD'd and died while mixing xanax and alcohol. He vomited in his sleep and choked to death on his own vomit. I would recommend you do not mix the two.
One problem with carisoprodol (Soma) is that it potentiates opioids, as do benzos. Mixing oxycodone with both Soma and Xanax will give any prescribing physician the willies, as this combination, especially in the presence of alcohol, would cause many a patient to 'wake up dead.'
Dantrolene is a good muscle relaxant, and the only one that does not effect the central nervous system -- it works directly on preventing muscle contraction. This may be a safer medication for you.
I recently was on MS Contin (long acting morphine) and my PCP allowed me to take Valium at HS with the MS Contin. Obviously Valium and Xanax are similar. She had me take it first in the day time a few times when my husband was home to see how it would affect me. I did not have a problem with the two medications.
So I think it is a probability that you can take them together but keep in mind that they both depress the respiratory system.

It is a new drug to your body. Mixing benzos and opiates can be deadly. Thats what half (or more ) of these celebrities have been dropping dead from over the years (and of course many, many more normal people too ). Anna Nicole SMith, Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson (although it's not official yet), etc. And are you taking 2-3 lortabs at one dose? or spread out thru the day? if you are taking them all at once, you definitely should not be taking the xanax with it.
Xanax does not interact significantly with cocaine. If a person came to the ER with anxiety from cocaine, a Xanax-like medication would likely be given to the person.
But I can't really say it is 'safe' to take Xanax after cocaine. The Xanax is not likely to do anything bad, assuming you take it in a reasonable, therapeutic dose. But cocaine is NEVER a 'safe' medication.
So he takes 6-8 10mg/325mg of oxycodone a day, 1-2 10mg of cyclobenzaprine (muscle relaxer) a day, 1-2 ambien at nights and now the dr just added 2 10mg of methadone a day. By night he is slurring his speech, falling asleep. I am so angry about all these pills. He ends up buying oxy off the street because he runs out of his prescription before the time to refill.
Is he being overdosed? He is very defensive when I try talking to him about this. That's his addiction.
To many xanax and to much alcohol will kill young or old. He needs help but he is young and most young people think they are invincible. Maybe you can get him to some na meetings or even a drug treatment center this will help him at lest he will no how to quit when he gets ready to quit. Treatment will teach him how to quit and he wont forget treatment.
I was reading about the GABA in the brain and understand that it stops producing when we take Xanax for a long time. I never wanted this medication. A doctor insisted I take it and was mad when I told him that I didn't want it. I gave in after he insisted and thought that he's a doctor, so he must know best. Ends up that he was getting paid to put patients on this drug and he's now in trouble for doing so. I don't want to feel the thoughts of killing myself again.
Hepatic Impairment
In a pharmacokinetic study of sixteen subjects with hepatic impairment (15 mild, 1 moderate per Child-Pugh score), both AUC and Cmax were approximately double the values seen in the healthy control group. Based on the findings, Cyclobenzaprine HCl should be used with caution in subjects with mild hepatic impairment starting with the 5 mg dose and titrating slowly upward.
I cant tell you how many people died from mixing methadone and xanax but its happening at alarming rates everyday. I go to a meth clinic and had a phyc doc prescribe 2mgs 3x a day also. I dont remember most of the month if you know what I mean. GET HIM HELP NOW. Things got so bad with me I became homeless and came clean to the doc that I was an addict. They stopped the scripts and I havent taken xanax like that since. It makes the person look like theyre going to fall over just standing still.
However it was not as effective as cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) for muscle spasms. Frequent warm baths go hand and hand with these drugs, at least in my humble opinion.

I do skills training at a local behavioral health center, and I have a question. This comes up all the time, if someone is prescibed Xanax, and is an alcoholic, is it a good idea to continue taking xanax when they are in the recovery process? I always get the response that "I have anxiety and need the xanax". I have tried to do some research but people are in and out of here quickly and the issue came up again today. So, please if someone can help, I appreciate it.
the withdrawals are starting to kick in with jerks and tears without crying and insomnia. i took half of a .1 mg pill and feel nothing yet but mind you, i also am used to taking VAST doses of valium and xanax. my blood pressure is normally very low, but i'm also a benzo addict, so is this stuff gonna work to help me sleep when 5 xanax didn't? will it work at all? i don't wanna take too much and have my bp go down to 40/20.
