Misoprostol causes contractions resulting in a miscarriage. When used in combination, mifepristone and misoprostol are 95-97% effective within two weeks. Mifepristone and misoprostol are FDA approved.
How Does It Work?
Mifepristone blocks the hormone progesterone needed to maintain the pregnancy. Because this hormone is blocked, the uterine lining begins to shed, the cervix begins to soften and bleeding may occur.
The most common drug used for this purpose is a drug called misoprostol (brand name Cytotec), which is labeled as an ulcer medication but has been found to be helpful in miscarriage management. Misoprostol is sometimes used in combination with mifepristone, an antiprogesterone drug that is also known as Mifeprex or RU486. Another possibility is gemeprost, but this drug may involve more severe side effects in some cases.
Through an initial ultrasound we learned that loss of life most likely occurred around 7.5 weeks. The first day of miscarriage I experienced labor like contractions but they weren't as severe as miscarriages I've had in the past.
I passed large blood clots & had extremely heavy bleeding for about 14 hours straight before the bleeding showed signs of lightening up to a "regular" flow.
Hi I was givin misoprostol to help with my miscarriage because my baby's heart stopped almost 2wks ago and i had very low hcg's to begin with and my body has not done a natural miscarriage yet. I was given 600mg to take orally and told if did'nt work to take again 12hrs later which i did and still nothing happened.
Has anybody taken misoprostol tabs for complete abortion.I had an incomplete abortion ,and was advised to take Misoprostol for complete flush.But am afraid of possible side effect.PLs someone with similar experience advise.
I was 8 weeks pregnant when it was determined that I was facing a miscarriage. After 2 ultrasounds, 2 weeks apart, there was no growth & the sac was only measuring 5 weeks in size. Women who have miscarriages at that early of a stage can't really tell what the baby looks like, and there are many things a woman can do with the baby, depending on where she is during the miscarriage. I had a miscarriage at around 6 weeks as well. I didn't get a D&C at the hospital though, they gave me the option of a D&C, misoprostol, or going home and letting my body do it on it's own. I chose the misoprostol pill just to be sure that it got everything out.
This was my first pregnancy and it ended in a miscarriage on New Years day. I was about to be 9 weeks. They gave me a shot of Cytotec in the ER and sent me on my way to let nature run its course. It didnt....at least not yet. Has anyone ever had this and how long does it take? Im waiting and I just want this over with...........
I was given misoprostol for a missed miscarriage. It seemed to work but a month later I was diagonosed with an incomplete miscarriage. Please ask for a follow-up ultrasound so you don't suffer any complications.
So sorry for your loss. I was given misoprostol for a missed miscarriage as well. It seemed to "work" but 3 weeks later I was still spotting. An ultrasound revealed that I had retained "products of conception" and ended up having a d&c. I wish I had the d&c in the first place but that's a personal decision. Good Luck.
I had a miscarriage 5 weeks ago and I was about 9 weeks, and I used the pill Misoprostol to start the miscarriage. I bled regularly for two weeks. After those two weeks, my husband and I had sex. A day after we had sex, I started to bleed (very lightly) for a week. After waiting for the bleeding to stop which lasted almost a week, we had sex again. A day after that, I began to spot.

Everything was going good, until 8 week, when we had an first ultrasound and we heard heartbeats, then out next appointment was on end of week 11 so we went and then got shocked after getting bad news that no heartbeats, but in between 9-11 week I never had any kind of discharge or blood clot etc, nothing was going good, but I can say I start loosing my pregnancy symptoms.
Hello, I am currently going through a missed miscarriage. I was given misoprostol. This started Sunday Jan 5th (I took 2 pills orally) . I was bleeding for a couple of days and then Wednesday morning it seems as if I had stopped bleeding and then Thursday morning I put 2 in vaginally and that night the bleeding started back really strong with alot of clots and tissue.Friday, big dark red clumps came out but I still kept feeling this nagging pain in my lower abdomen and my leg.
I then was told to come back a week later and they informed me there has been no growth and now i have been given the options off what to do for the miscarriage. I am obviously quite frightened as this is my first pregnancy and i am not sure what to do. I have had no bleeding and can't understand how tey just assume i am going to misscarry.
c and a natural miscarriage....the natural we def. the easiest, not the least painful...but took less time and my body got back to normal much quicker.
I found out at 7w5d that my baby had stopped growing at 6w. On 28th August (8w5d) had misoprostol to force it out as was not happening naturally. 1st Sept had ERPC to remove retained products (9w1d). Had a scan in the 12th which showed endometrium was thick possibly due ovulation they saud. 20th to 25th had light spotting. Then on 28th September started periods till 3rd Oct. Exactly the day after my periods finished had sharp pains on both right and left side.
C there is also an option for a drug called misoprostol. It is inserted in your vagina and will make the miscarriage start naturally. I have had both D&C and misoprostol and far prefer the misoprostol to GA and a 'surgical' procedure.

2013 she took MTP Cipla medicine 1 tab mtpill (mifepristone) After 24 hrs she take 2 tab misoprostol. but she did not start bleeding. Sir please tell me either this medicine is on working or not. or have to take 2 misoprostol.
