Avatar f tn All kinds of numbers and miscarriage rates are running around out there after a heart beat is seen, I have seen from 5 to 10% quoted. It sounds like you are doing all the right things and things are going great. Hope this helps, not sure there is an answer.
Avatar f tn I also read that metformin reduces the risk of miscarriage, but my dr considered to take me off of it. I've been taking it for about 2 years before that. I am tomorrow week 38 and the baby is healthy, so it probably depends on everybody's special case whether to keep taking it throughout the pregnancy or not. I have been more closely monitored by my dr from the beginning of the pregnancy. It's best to let the dr decide.
1512722 tn?1313697879 Hey ladies i just started Metformin today! can i get some stories of bfps using it? or just you experience on it?
Avatar m tn No, the rate decrease if your taking metformin. I also have PCOS and I had a miscarriage in October..every since then I haven't had a period or ovulate on my own so my doctor put me on provera, metformin, and letrozole(femara) to get pregnant but the metformin alone will help you NOT to have a miscarriage...good luck to you sweetie. I think you should ask your doctor about taking metformin, it corrects PCOS also...

Avatar f tn Everything I have read on the issue says that taking Metformin while you are pregnant can help with early miscarriage, gestational diabetes, and a whole list of other problems that could possibly arise. I could really use a second opinion! Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hi, I wanted to let you know that I can relate. I have tried 5 different BCP's and they make me feel psychotic and physically sick. I have PCOS also. I was given a new prescription for Yasmin and Metformin in January despite my concerns over the BCP's. So, I made a decision to only take the Metformin. For me, Metformin has been a miracle drug! Within 2 weeks, I had energy and less hair growth! The first 2 months I had perfect 28 day cycles that were non-painful and light.
Avatar f tn PLEASE DO NOT STOP METFORMIN WHEN YOU GET PREGNANT!!! I am living proof and suffered a miscarriage because I listened to my doctor and stopped. I was taking metformin up to 5 weeks and lost my baby right before I hit the 8th week. You need to continue taking metformin until the baby is not dependent on your hormones anymore and they are depending fully on the hormones from the formed placenta...that is usually after the 12th week.
Avatar f tn It helps regulate menstrual cycles, start ovulation, and lower the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS. Metformin can also help in regularizing menstrual cycles and starting ovulation in about 40-45% of women with PCOS.It may be more effective when taken with Clomiphene .Do consult your gynecologist for more queries. Please keep me posted. Best regards!
Avatar f tn In a recent multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, metformin increased live-birth rates compared to placebo with the most beneficial effect seen in obese women. Treatment should be taken in consultation with a gynaecologist and an endocrinologist. Hope this helps. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
1000796 tn?1250093019 On the times you got pregnant, were you still taking Metformin? It is known that women with PCOS who take Metformin up until the 20th week reduces the chances of miscarriage. Have you spoken to your doctor about why you keep having a miscarrige?
1907238 tn?1340711313 hi everyone, ive been trying for a baby for 5 years now,my fertility nurse as put me on 500mg of metformin, she said i should get pregnant on these,as anyone concieved on metformin alone.
688022 tn?1275944889 t already they can see why you are having so many miscarriages and do things to try and prevent them. Clomid will not prevent miscarriage it only helps you ovulate. Also ask about Metformin for the pcos its a common drug the the RE will put you on.
594189 tn?1386916607 Congrats on the pregnancy! I hope everything goes well for you! I am 9 weeks pregnant finally after 4 yrs of trying following a miscarriage. I also got pregnant with the help of Metformin! Glad I've made it this far, but worrying everyday about miscarriage...having my first u/s in two weeks!
594189 tn?1386916607 I'm only on my 5 cycle of metformin, it had fixed my insulin resistance. my blood sugar is lower too and I ovulate. My doctor is sure it is just a matter of time before I get pregnant on my own again.
118884 tn?1270474779 Hello, metformin does increase fertility rates in people with PCOS. If you are 16 days late, you definitely need to take a test. If you are pregnant, you'll need to talk with your doctor right away. I've been on metformin for over a year and never missed a period but they sometimes do come a few days later than normal. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hi. I can't say for sure that losing the weight will make you respond better to the meds, but losing weight with PCOS is a good thing since most doctors believe that fertility will be increased with weight loss. I lost weight and got pregnant after taking metformin sporadically (side effects were awful). I wasn't even trying to get pregnant then. Unfortunately, that pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage.
568322 tn?1370165440 This is the first study showing that taking insulin sensitizers (like Metformin) to decrease INSULIN RESISTANCE, increases SVR. I have waited a long, long time for this study. Now we can use this study to get doctors to test people for insulin resistance and prescribe Metformin. Success rate is about to go up.....yes! TRIC-1 Study: Metformin Added to Peginterferon alfa-2a and Ribavirin Improves RVR Rate in Treatment-Naive Genotype 1 HCV Patients With Insulin Resistance.
Avatar f tn I been diganosed with pcos, me and my partner been trying for baby and twice i had a miscarriage, now they gven me metformin, just woundered how long the metformin takes to bring my periods back so i get one every month?
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken metformin while pregnant? I am currently on metformin but my doctor told me to stop taking them at 9 weeks, but I am scared to bc I dont want to have a miscarriage. Any thoughts on what I should do?
Avatar f tn I am on metformin which helps to reduce miscarriage rate as it controls insulin levels. My first three pregnancies ended in miscarriage- 4 th one started metformin and finally had a gorgeous little girl( although she was premature probably from all the miscarriages). This time on metformin again , vitamin d( we pcos women tend to have low vitamin d), progesterone, fish oil, folic acid 5 mg and prenatals. Also doing acupuncture once a week, anyone on metformin?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to stop taking the medication and within two weeks I miscarried. I later found out off my fetility Dr that metformin reduces the risk of miscarriage. This January I started metformin again, one week in I had a very strange period with no sypmtoms which lasted a full week it's only been 12 days since that one finished and Iv got another period, again with no sypmtoms. It's driving me mad, I don't see my dr until end of March. Anybody know what's happening.
