If you are 100% sure of your LMP and your HCG levels are falling, then you are having a miscarriage. An empty sac a 9 wks, with a gestational sac measurement greater than 18mm can be labeled as a blighted ovum; which is a fancy way of saying a pregnancy with no DNA. So I thought I was 10 weeks today..but at my us the doc told me that there is a sac but no baby or hb. I had a a period in Jan. And that was the date that I calculated it off of. But I failed to mention that I had a light period in Feb. So with that being said I would only be 5 weeks..I need help! I'm at ftm and I'm just worried it'll end up in a miscarriage. Is an empty sac normal?
she could be right... you could have suppose to been pregnant but the embryo didnt produce a fetus so you would maybe let it miscarry or d&c.. an empty sac is a condition where the gestational sac develops normally, while the embryonic part of the pregnancy is either absent or stops growing very early. Other terms for this condition are blighted ovum and anembryonic pregnancy.
my gynacologist And when she did the vaginal ultrasoud she said she was 90% sure it was an empty sac And organised blood tests for the NeXT day , where the levels had risen but not as much as they should , And more blood tests for tomorrow (which is 3 days later) And another appointment And u/s with my dr tomorrow afternoon , my spotting has stopped And i havent had any miscarriage symptoms And my breasts Are still sore , i dont know what im asking , my boyfriend thinks im crazy going on this s

My LMP was January 29 and did 2 home pregnancy tests and 1 blood test and all came out positive. My doctor scheduled me for my first pre-natal visit which would include the vaginal US and a pap smear. I was told prior to the appointment that basing on my LMP I should be 7 weeks and 3 days by this time.
The first pre-natal visit was actually yesterday. And when I went in, I was so excited to finally see our baby.

This is my first pregnancy, I am 8w 6d pregnant and i had a u/s at 7w 2d but all they could see was an empty sac which measured 10mm suggesting i was only 5w 5d but was told it looks like i have a blighted ovum. I had a blood test Fri 21/11 & a second one on Tue 25/11 which showed only a slight increase in HCG levels from 11300 to 12400, I am having another test today and will find out the results tomorrow, but i wanted to know what my chances are of having a normal pregnancy.
I have been having pink spotting here that there since tues. One day with bright red and one with a tiny bit of brown. This is my 3rd pregnancy. My previous 2pregnancies I had bleeding. I am nauseous and I feel pregnant with dull to no period like cramps its like a light lingering ache. I had an ultrasound and they saw a sac but no "bean" (baby) I thought my last period was on Oct11th... I had spotting in Nov. Which I assumed was implantation bleeding...
I've had two empty sac and i just found out im pregnant today, what are the chances of this being an empty sac too?
m sorry to say that the hcg levels can continue to rise even when there is a blighted ovum. A blighted ovum is an empty sac in which no fetus forms. They never continue on to be a healthy pregnancy, and always end in miscarriage or sometimes patients need a D&C. We don't know what causes them, but they are extremely common.
The good news is that they are not likely to happen to the same person twice.
Which if its right you would have only and empty sac at 4 weeks. (if you are only 4 weeks) It would be completely normal if you are only that far along.
It could also be a blighted ovum. But more than likely you are not that far along, only a couple weeks. Make another appt. if you havent yet and see what the next sono shows. Im sure you will see your little bean next time. Best of luck to you! Keep us posted!
Hi there. Oh, I'm so sorry. I know that is so disappointing.
In my area/city, most ob/gyn's don't see you until you are 8 weeks along as normal practice. The theory is that sadly, about a fouth of early pregnancies or 1 out of 4 end in miscarriage. And empty sac does happy I'm sorry to say. The problem is the HCG level and empty sac I believe. They'd expect to see something growing in the ultrasound you had.
Never say never, but most likely you are miscarrying.
I suspect a miscarriage in the tubes. What is going on with an empty sac at 6 weeks? I would like more kids. My first two kids were conceived on the first try. My first miscarriage was after a year and a half of trying then it took another 6 months of trying before the second miscarriage. I would like to know what is going on.
At that time there was 1 sac with a baby and heart beat, 1 empty sac, and a clot. I was told to come back in two weeks. My 2 U/S only showed 1 empy sac and a clot. I was told that I would miscarry. What is the chance that the baby is hidden behind either the empty sac or the clot. It has been 2 weeks and no signs of miscarriage.
So the doctors couldn't see anything in my ultra sounds until I was 6 weeks even then they only saw the sac I'm am currently 7 weeks 5 days I went to the hospital last night because I was bleeding they said my cervix was still closed but now the sac looked abnormal but they couldn't really tell much from the ultrasound and want me to get another one in a week does this sound like a miscarriage .?
I am so sorry! The gestational sac issue of looking empty is not uncommon in early pregnancy but the dropping of your HCG is not a good sign. Are they testing that number again? What does your doctor say?
I'm currently waiting for my next ultrasound to see If I have a blighted ovum. An empty sac. It ***** very badly. I thought I was 7w3 days but sac measured 6w1d empty :/ but I've seen alot of positive things saying that a baby can pop up.
ve given me, I strongly suspect that you have a blighted ovum. That is also called an empty sac. By 6 and 1/2 weeks there should be a heart beat on a transvaginal ultrasound or at least what we call a Cheerio which is a yolk sac. The yolk sac should be inside the larger sac, and the next thing that happens is that a little grain of rice shows up on the Cheerio, which is the fetal pole. That is where a little flickering heart beat should be.
At 5 weeks 3 days all i had was am empty sac that was it! Well tell your dr my empty sac is now 4 years old and healthy!!i didnt know how far i was so they did the ultrasound there was an empty sac no baby in sight! I weny back 2weeks later for my 1st real ultrasound and there he was with a heart beat and looked like a bird! I would wait do the blood work and then make them give u another ultrasound at 7 weeks!!
I am sorry you are going through this. An empty sac is a form of miscarriage, and is sometimes called a blighted ovum. It means the egg implanted and her body thought she was pregnant, grew a sac, but the baby did not grow. Sadly it is fairly common. It is not because of anything she or you did. It also does not mean that the next time the same thing will happen. I am sorry for your loss, and I wish you both well. Take care.
Sorry to here abouit your pregnancy problems, I just want to say i am only to aware at finding an empty sac and this can be quite a shock. I to had an empty sac when i went for my scan in august last year, had loads of hcg tests done and unfortunately was diagnosed with a blighted ovvum., However this is not always the case.
