Common Questions and Answers about Miscarriage causes mthfr

miscarriage

Avatar m tn Hello. I just had a miscarriage a few days ago. I'm 42 years old and never tried to carry a baby to term before. I've had a few abortions in the past, surgical and the kind where they give you a pill. This time I really wanted to have the baby. I was only about 19 to 20 days pregnant when I miscarried so it was very early. Since I'm a novice, I really don't know much about what causes miscarriages so I was wondering if anyone can help me understand this better.
Avatar n tn Please explain this to me? what causes it? Is it genetic? I have 2 boys myself and can I or my boys get it. She has had 2 strokes already and that is how they found it through a neuologist.
Avatar n tn I am homozygous MTHFR A1298C, and have had 4 miscarriages: the first at 5 W; the second was a twin pregnancy (miscarriages at 9 W and 12 W); the last at 7 W. Now I take baby aspirin, folic acid and vitamin B, but when I will be prengant I must take eparin. I have many others mutations: Pai I 5g/5g; HPA 1 1a/1a; ACE del/del;F XIII homo V34L; Beta Fibr. Hetero 455G>A. Fibrinogen (now): 11,8. I 'm a little positive to ASMA (1:40), and I have, sometimes, erythema, so i take also prednisone.
2164846 tn?1339633520 I am a medical writer, and one of my jobs involves keeping up with the latest research on MTHFR mutations. One recent study found that women with MTHFR mutations who took folic acid during pregnancies where less likely to have miscarriages. Unfortunately, practicing doctors rarely have time to stay up on the latest research. At this point, researchers have found that MTHFR definitely can contribute to the risk of miscarriage.
Avatar f tn the reason why mthfr causes miscarrage is tiny blood clots get caught in the placenta, which causes the flow of oxygen to get cut off from the fetus thus the pregnancy ends. if you get this disorder you should not ever take birth control again, because bc increases the chance for blood clots. bc with this disorder can be deadly.
490183 tn?1361213953 I was just diagnosed with a mutation of the MTHFR gene. This causes the body not to absorb folate or B9, which is essential to the fetus. It also causes blood-clots. I have had 2 m/c's in the past year, and may be on my way to a 3rd one, because I didn't start taking the right vitamins till well into my 6th week of pregnancy. I also have to take a baby aspirin for the rest of my life.
648243 tn?1246388918 This week I tested positive as homozygous A1298C (without the C677T mutation) and Positive for Cardiolipin AB Screen. My hemotologist has perscribed Folbic Tablets. What can you tell me about MTHFR and the homyzygous A1298C without the C677T mutation?
Avatar f tn 2nd one,,again 2 Grade A blasts, one attached and resulted in miscarriage at 8 weeks (no heartbeat). So RE suggested genetic testing, which i dont know they did not think of before the 2 failed IVFs. I was positive for MTHFR (i believe heterozygous) and was told to start a Rx prenatal vit with increased folic acid, plus 2 folic acid supplements, and asa81 mg. ANnnnnnnd if i was to become pregnant, i would be on lovenox inj. I have read mixed reviews about this "disorder".
3530672 tn?1370038043 She has me on progesterone also. Yes I have mthfr gene which puts you at a higher risk of clotting and causes recurrent mcs. She tested me for it aftee my second mc.
Avatar f tn My test results came back as MTHFR with 2 mutations. They link factor V with MTHFR. Mine is suppose to be treated with B6 B12 Folic Acid and Baby Aspirin. I have had a miscarriage since finding this out and have had 3 miscarriages prior to the last one so 4 total. They are going to treat me with heprin too. They are saying the baby aspirin is not enough for me. Glad they found out what was wrong. Sorry about your loss.
590782 tn?1351704524 I found out that I have MTHFR (2 mutations) after having a miscarriage in Sept 08. The test was done not only because of the m/c, but because I my pregnancy with twins in 1994 ended with one stillbirth and my living child being born at 31 weeks. My doctor prescribed RX prenatal vitamin, 3 additional mg's of Folic Acid, B6, B12 and a baby aspirin everyday. I got pregnant immediately after my miscarriage and had a perfectly healthy, beautiful baby boy on May 22, 2009 (5 weeks early).
Avatar f tn So, I had another miscarriage-Sept '08. They ran a recurrent loss panel on me to find I had MTHFR with the two genetic mutations. I have a treatment plan now...and I am cautiously optimistic! This discussion is related to What can I do to stop recurrent miscarriage?.
605648 tn?1249571427 I will have a few postings today b/c I'm working my way through some tactical issues. When I met with my Doctor last week, he told me to do an internet search on "MTHFR" and miscarriage. With the last miscarriage we did a large amount of blood tests. I assume from his request, that I've tested positive for this condition or gene. I will ask him to be more specific on my next visit.
Avatar f tn Hi, my 2nd miscarriage just happened in September and this MTHFR was just discovered about a month ago. My doctor thinks that this was coincidental and not the cause of the miscarriages because my homocysteine levels are normal. She says that it is the homocysteine levels that are important, not the MTHFR.
Avatar n tn Doctors atribute it to an umbilical cord accident, but are not ruling out the fact that I was H1N1 flu positive and had the a gene MTHFR mutation. For future pregnancy my doctor is suggesting a baby asprin in addition to a high dose folic acid suppliment. Do you have any input??? 1274271 tn?1453262165 I'm not trying to get you down. I've had 4 miscarriages and they have just found out what's wrong with me. I have MTHFR that causes blood clots and fetal demise. If you do get pregnant and have another miscarriage I would seriously talk with your doctor about doing a chromosome test. That's how they found out my MTHFR. There are other women on here who have had successful pregnancies after a miscarriage. Just don't give up hope.
Avatar f tn http://www.medhelp.org/forums/MTHFR-Methylenetetrahydrofolate-reductase/show/961 And if anyone has any questions regarding MTHFR, please do not hesitate to call on me for help. In addition to anything I have mentioned, please keep in mind, that while I or others may have extensive knowledge in many areas, you should always seek professional medical advice from your own physician, as it pertains to medical conditions or concerns.
1274271 tn?1453262165 Im 24 and just had my second miscarriage with no previous children, and doctors wont do testing till ive had 3 or more. Personally i think that is just ridiculous and have taken it upon myself not to have a 3rd one, I know that a lot of recurrent miscarriages are caused by MTHFR. Will it hurt if i go ahead and take baby aspirin and fol-guard just in-case, i know that this can be a treatment? Just wanted some opinions other then my doctors, thanks!!!
Avatar f tn i received knowledge ,after testing that i carry the heterozygous gene for MTHFR. I conceived and gave birth to another baby ,who now is alive and healthy but was born w/ Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia ,this baby was coceived after md recommendations and supplementations, and still had issues. i would love another but am afraid w/ my age and history to conceive again. i will be going to a genetic counselor ,who works for CDH Research .
374593 tn?1257879950 I was wandering who all takes asprin for fertility/miscarriage prevention? Also if you do, have the doctors found something in your bloodwork and therefore told you that you should take a baby asprin, or do you just try it anyways.. and lastly.. anyone take it and have a successful pregnancy? esp after miscarriage? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if any of you also have this. I have MTHFR C677t and A1298C it is genetic. After my mc they did blood work and found that I have this. My dr was nice, she did all this test after my 1st, she said most drs do it after two or three. I am Diatx and the Prenatal pills and once I get pregnant baby asprin. Just wondering if anyone had this also and your stories. Thank you!
Avatar n tn With my son I had PreEclampsia so the new OB that I am going to did a test MTHFR and it came up with two blood mutations C677T and A1298C which he says together could lead to a miscarriage or Pre Eclampsia but treated my risks are reduced. So I am starting a shot each day of Lovenox and a baby asprin along with my prenatals and iron. I don't have another appointment until the 26th but I would like to know if anyone is familiar with all of this.
Avatar n tn I have just been diagnosed with MTHFR A1298C Homozygus. The doctor has put me on folic acid and 1 baby aspirin a day. I just lost a baby in June at 15 weeks. I have a 13 year old son and had no complications with him. I have been reading about this and am very confused. There are several different types of mutations. Can you tell me what they are and which ones are more serious?
Avatar n tn After sum genitic testing I was diagnosed with a condition called MTHFR... which I dont know much about... I was wondering did any of u know anything about it... I really want this pregnancy 2 make it 2 be full term...
Avatar m tn The only thing that came back was being compound heterozygous for MTHFR mutations, but with normal homocysteine levels. Other than that, nothing else. My last pregnancy I took extra folic acid, B vitamins, and baby aspirin for good emasure. Now I have gotten a surprise BFP and my doc is talking about Lovenox (low dose). Maternal fetal medicine says NO WAY its too risky without having a diagnosed blood clotting disorder, but my OB and RE are willing to put me on it.
Avatar f tn I have been recently diagnosed with 1 copy MTHFR Heterozygote A 1298C. Pleas I am lost and very scared...should I see a gentician or an hematologist to help me with a tretment to help conceive. Does this mutation really interfere with conceiving and how. Should I take low doses of aspirins or heparine...? Please give me some help.
Avatar n tn 5 years old, I had 2 miscarriages in last 2 years, the last one was 2 month ago,i have been diagnosed with MTHFR 2 mutation and type A , one of my gyn says that that cant be the reason for my miscarriages ,but the other one says that i have to take baby asprin and extra folic acid woth vitamin B5,b12......
Avatar f tn I am 35 yr old and have undergone several miscarriages. My first miscarriage was in February 2009. This baby was 4 months old. The amniotic fluid leaked out and the baby had to be delivered. It died after three hours after delivery. The second miscarriage was at 7 weeks in July 2009. I had a D & C . The third miscarriage was a chemical pregnancy at 4 weeks and 2 days and it ended as a natural period. That happened in December 2009. My fourth pregnancy was a natural miscarriage at 7 weeks.
