Mirapex vs requip for rls

Common Questions and Answers about Mirapex vs requip for rls

requip

Avatar n tn Thank you Worried for the detailed information. I had no idea those extra receptor sites never went away!! I guess that's why the experts say that once you are an addict, you always will be. =( I understand the dangers of an addict messing around with dopamine. I just have such a tough time with the RLS. If it was only for four or five days, I could hang in there, but mine tends to last more like 14 or 15 days.
1390101 tn?1281000559 I was on mirapex for 3 years, my miracle drug, for my RLS during that period I develop a gambling addiction. I find out that this is a side of the mirapex. For the sake of my self and the loss od my my family I choose to get off of it.I It took me 2 trys to get off of them and have suceeded. I no long have the urge to gamble. ,Now I am on simumet for my RLS and it does not work like the mirapex , I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go to sleep.
Dog But as you know what might work great for one patient might not work great for another. But maybe worth a try.
Avatar f tn My current sleep doctor feels that Sinemet, a dopamine replacement, should be reserved for use after dopamine agonists such as Requip and Mirapex are no longer useful. I can give you a few hints on optimizing the effectiveness of your Sinemet rather than keep raising dose: No protein to eat unless long enough before dose for the food to have already passed thru the small intestine. Small amout of starchy food food can help when taking med, but no large amounts of food before taking the med.
Avatar f tn I HAVE RLS FOR MANY YEARS AND I AM ON 3MG REQUIP AND 1 MG KLONPIN, THAT HAS BEEN HELPING UP TO NOW. I DISCOVERED THAT MY THYROID IS VERY LOW. COULD THAT BE WHY MY RLS IS GETTING WORSE. I REALLY NEED SOME SLEEP!!! WHAT OTHER MEDS ARE HELPFUL. I REALLY HAVE ALOT OF PAIN IN MY LEGS ALSO. THANKS FOR AMY HELP.
398059 tn?1447945633 I posted a couple of times , Mirapex is what my Mother takes for RLS. Someone else posted that they take it for RLS . Both having great success with it after many many yrs of drs. , meds and NO sleep.
487070 tn?1313665952 Sinemet, Mirapex, Requip and Neurontin. All helped for a while but needed increasing doses and the side effects and augmentation became intolerable. I now use a TENS Unit before bedtime, and it has done as well for me as the meds after their initial usefulness waned. I was on so many meds that made me nauseous I wasn't sure which caused what. But I puked a lot for a while. Somehow I guess I became more tolerant because it did nearly stop. Maybe your body will adjust too.
Avatar f tn I've got severe RLS 24/7 and have been taking Requip for the past several years, Mirapex before that. It's gotten worse lately so the doctor had me go cold turkey 5 days ago. He gave me Klonopin to take at night, but it doesn't do anything other than make me even more tired. I managed to get 6 hours sleep on day 4, but that's it for the whole week. The doctor says that I can't go back on the dopamines (Requip) since they have started augmentation (making the RLS worse).
Avatar f tn RLS is now listed as a symptom and Mirapex as a treatment in the Pain Tracker. Thanks for the suggestion. Best, MedHelp Pain Tracker: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn But waht i wanted to comment was something i read here from a poster about some meds for RLS... mirapex and requip... it seems they increase the dopamine levels with some side effects not to get overlooked by someone with addiction issues... The poster shared her experience with mirapex of getting addicted to gambling. It can happen. She even left a link of a documental made in Canada about this terrible effect of mirapex.
1182133 tn?1266851531 s 0436, day 7 no vics and I did sleep about 6 hours, but I take 1mg klonopin every night for fibro and I take mirapex for RLS -- the vicodin also helps with RLS but the mirapex works better I promise...I get it in my legs, hips and arms and I just want to scream.......see if you can get some samples of that or requip bcuz even with insurance they are expensive. You can get through it - it will get better, oh, just remembered...mirapex.
539156 tn?1281818356 I have had RLS for years and in the last few months it has gotten much worse. I take Mirapex, which has worked really well, but now I guess I need more of it because it really flares up every evening (all over my body) before it is time to take my meds. I feel like I am falling apart! Numb hands and feet...apnea....RLS...blurry left eye....FATIGUE.....Sorry, I think I am having a pity party. Thanks to all for being there!
667261 tn?1225473853 The klonopin may sound good but I would like to add that one of the ladies in my bible study has been trying for several months to ween off klonopin. She is having horrible sweats and anxiety with the withdrawal. Please try some other method before you try a addicting substance. Have you tried the bar of soap under the sheets? I will ask about the wal-mart commercial product for my friend who started on the klonopin for RLS also.
Avatar m tn I had tried all the usual medications for rls before taking the Ultram. I have tried requip, mirapex, sinamet, gabapentin, lyrica and a host of others. Ultram was the only one that worked well. For three and a half years I was free of the rls syptoms. Now though I am afraid I am going to experience not only increased rls symptoms but also the other withdrawl symptoms associated with quiting the Ultram. I am looking for responses from others that have been in this boat.
Avatar n tn I also suffer for RLS since childhood, I take amitryptiline for it, I can take it as needed, lately it has been bad, graves disease is my woe. but numbers are getting better, and not sleeping mostly due to RLS, it is severe these days, i wasn't sleeping before cause of insomnia, so now not sure if i didn't have RLS would i be sleeping? glad your numbers are good, can't wait for that news!! maybe i will ask about your combo, the amitryptiline makes me very groggy in a.m.
Avatar f tn I have RLS/PLMD. Took Mirapex for several years, now on Requip. The meds have not cured me, but they do give me significant periods of time where I can get decent sleep and feel more rested. I also have sleep apnea, but the sleep studies didn't pick it up for several years because my legs moved so often I rarely slept enough for it to show up. The meds do have side effects in some, so do your homework. I think the sleep study is a good idea.
405614 tn?1329144114 OK, Is it possible that the Restless Leg Syndrome I was diagnosed with from a sleep study several years ago might have been an early symptom of my maybe possible MS? It recently occured to me that I list RLS as a neurological symptom on medical forms, and that as far as I know there is no real know cause for RLS. Low iron has aggravated it, but it wasn't low when I was tested for RLS.
Avatar m tn I also take Mirapex and it works well for me. I also have eaten bananas and that helps...google rls and see if you can find any other ideas.
Avatar n tn Although it is not usually a first line treatment, for patients with augmentation from mirapex or requip and little success with gabapentin, methadone is the drug of choice. Please refer to the Willis-Ekbom Foundation website for current literature. I have suffered with RLS for 40 years. I have used every medication available and numerous natural therapies, vitamin supplements et. In the end I was forced to take methadone.
Avatar n tn This has kept the RLS under control but about 7pm has sent me to sleep - most inconvenient for evening meetings! Today my specialist put me on Gabapentin - 100mg twice a day for one week, increasing by 100mg per dose per week up to 600mg in the sixth week. I have therefore stopped the Ropinerole. What I forget to ask is what time of day/night it is best to take the Gabapentin capsules. My RLS is (was) bad in the evenings & through the night.
Avatar n tn t know about the Monavie but what I take and is wonderful is Mirapex. I take it 3 times a day and have no restless legs unless I skip a dose or run out and then the RLS returns. I hope this has helped.
420368 tn?1209071706 I lost a alot of sleep due to RLS which had been getting steadily worse as time went on.I tried Mirapex then tried Requip then resorted to Carbadopa/levadopa, which finally to start to help a little. I ten was having severe stomach and abdominable pains, some blleding and went to a IBS Clinic, which started me on clarithromyc 500 mg, mercaptopurine 50mg, metronidazole 500 mg. A couple of weeks later I was having severe trouble breathing, infection in lungs, felt like I was drowning.
Avatar m tn im with worried there are meds for the rls dont understand why they gave you hydrocodone for rls crazy! but you are 1/2 was there give or take a day or two! and you was taking a low dose, just the long time frame! id get your dr. to get you something better for rls as worried & kimmieb has suggested. hang in there your doing a good job.i had a 4 year snorting habit(percs) i just ct used a few meds for anxiety & sleep i now have 39 days clean.
372416 tn?1242665752 you've described rls perfectly...its very common for addicts to have this during their wds. it's also a medical mystery for other people who have never used or been addicted...they use requip to treat it, but its non-narcotic. rls is just torture when you only wanna sleep...i'm still waiting for mine to end. maybe tonight?
689327 tn?1240229164 I have RLS I take Mirapex, which is prescribed. there is an otc hylands restful leg that I have heard works. Some one else said to wrap your legs in ace bandages. hot hot baths. good luck, hope you find some relief soon.
Avatar f tn This result met with little concern. After diagnosis RLS 10/07 started Requip. Worked like magic from first .Actual RLS symptoms abated, bad wakings CEASED. Was at 2 mg nightly. End 1/08 small weight gain, minor edema. Short of breath. Suddenly symptoms increased.Gained more than 25 lbs in 10 weeks.Feet/ ankles/ fingers/abdomen terribly swollen. All sorts of tests including kidney, liver, congestive heart failure. No answers. Back to  neuro.
