481864 tn?1208328209 G'day, My dad had a mini stroke on Sunday, basically he had numbness in his body. The GP he saw within an hour or two of onset said he had experienced a 'ministroke'. He was walking with a limp on the way to the doctor but was walking well when he left. He later felt dizzy and nauseous. A day later he was taken to another doctor who also confirmed that he suffered a 'mini stroke' and did a quick blod test to determine a very high cholesterol level. He has been given medication to treat this.
Avatar f tn I would love to know what this is and what causes it. I've heard this could be TIA's, Absence Seizuzres or Mini Stroke. Has anyone have a similar experience? Thank You! This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/295029'>short memory loss seizures</a>.
Avatar n tn On Sept 20 had my second cryptogenic stroke (1st one approx 15 yrs ago) and have PFO and ASA. Second mini stroke was in the right posterior frontal parietal junction cortex 4mm in diameter. Neurologically, I have postural instability (per the neurologist) with the only explanation that this could be related to my left leg weakness from the L4-L5 fusion surgery in 2006. Question: I am concerned about being on Warafin and my instability.
Avatar f tn htm Alcohol can also interfere with the function of blood pressure medication. Elevated blood pressure is a primary risk factor in inducing stroke.
500374 tn?1210075013 I didn't have a brainstem stroke, but I did have a stroke and I have the same cognitive issues that you have. What I do is write a lot of lists - but darn where is that list? Also, I have a PSP and I play a game called Hot Brain to exercise my brain. I'm not good but I'm trying.
Avatar n tn I went to the PCP and Neurologist two days later and had an MRI 5 days later and they saw a stroke in the cerebellum and signs of a mini stroke that they classified as 'old'. I fortunately did not have ongoing loss of speech, or weakness in limbs etc...but have suffered from weird dizziness and electric shock feelings in my head. They seem to get better - but then get wrose again....Dr's are saying it is maybe anxiety --but is not. I have had anxiety before and these are different.
Avatar m tn These may include conditions such as the following abnormalities in the blood vessels of the brain, atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries supplying the brain, bleeding into the brain, such as a subarachnoid hemorrhage , brain tumors, chromosomal abnormalities, congenital diseases or conditions, high blood pressure, pregnancy and problems associated with pregnancy, stroke, transient ischemic attack, which is also called a mini-stroke.
Avatar m tn 4 months ago I had a mini stroke. Now I am unable to cross or put a sock on my right leg. Avatar n tn Now im kind of worried that I had a mini stroke. I was not able to make a complete sentence at all and my head was in severee pain. Am I worrying to much and just had a panic attack that was so intense it messed up my motor skills, or did something else happen?
Avatar n tn By an MRI they found a lesion on her brain due to a stroke she had suffered at birth or right around then. She has been healthy other than the seizures she had this past summer. Does anyone know of a person having epilepsy due to a stroke? If so, I would like to know their prognosis.
Avatar n tn Hi,The symptoms you have described, sound like stroke related.I myself and my husband both have mini strokes. It sounds like, with the numbness and pain he has suffered a stroke or min strokes. When he went to the emergency room, did they do an mri?He needs to been by a neurologist, one that knows what their doing.Make an appointment as soon as possible,as soon as you read this would be preferrable. It might be several things that causing this. Please make an appointment as possible though.
Avatar m tn She IS still on Lamictal, taken twice a day, and Plavix with aspirin, etc. So I'm just not sure if she had a mini-stroke or another seizure. So that's my question - Did she have a mini-stroke or a seizure (today)? Any relevant info is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I noticed that he didn't seem as alert and kinda fuzzy, so I took him to see his primary doctor yesterday and they did blood work and called me at home that night and said his dilantin level was very low that I should take him to the er to make sure he was having mini-siezures or mini-strokes. So last night they upped his medication again, gave him some dilantin by iv and sent him home. We are to follow-up with doctor next week. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Avatar m tn Weakness of muscles suggests mini stroke or transient ischaemic attack, you should get a second opinion and monitor the blood pressure levels to avoid further complications. Preventive medicines like aspirin should be given.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for depression since I returned home but the medication did not seem to work. I had angina some 4 years ago and at that time my wife insisted I get a brain scan. The brain scan showed that I had Cerebral Atrophy. I have now been diagnosed with diabetes. I was given cogitative testing last year and was found that they were areas that I was good at but some areas I was poor. I gave up taking treatment for depression before Christmas and was put on Aricept.
Avatar n tn in may of 2006, i awoke to have blurred vision, left eye was like looking at a tv with vertical hold broken...ws taken to hospital and told that i had vertigo............had an ashy taste in mouth, slurred speech, memory loss on simple words-i walked like an old person--they did a CT and nothing, i was given mezclazine(?
Avatar n tn He went to urgent care again, where they said it could have been a mini-stroke, but to go to the er, if it gets worse. The next day, he woke up feeling the same sensation, only now in his leg as well. He went to the er where it got worse to where it was very painful and his chest was in pain. He ended up having to be admitted to the hospital where he seems to be getting worse.
Avatar n tn I definitely think you should get 2nd and 3rd opinion about lifelong blood thinners. If you are no longer taking the medication that caused the stroke, then there are much safer alternatives to something as risky as you're taking--aspirin, garlic, fish oil, nattokinase, gingko, etc.
Avatar n tn Last January, 2006, I had a mini stroke. I was 36 years old. I recovered quickly and there has been no side effects. I was taking birth control pills and so the dr.'s say that must be the cause. They can find no other reason for it. I now take 1 aspirin daily. I have 1 son who is 3 and we are wondering about another pregnancy. I'm terrified! My neurologist and obgyn say it would be low risk for another mini stroke. I feel I was probably "no risk" this time last year but it happened.
Avatar n tn i had a stroke at 29 yrs. i had a left dissection cartotid artery. right now i'm 31 yrs. i want a baby but my right arm and hand isn't working. i can bend my elbow right now. do you have a full movement in your right hand and arm. i worried about taking care of a baby. can you please give me some advice?
Avatar n tn Unlike everybody else here, I am the husband and my wife had a TIA (mini stroke) in June 2009. The reasons behind the stroke to this day have never been answered. The doctors initially tried every test (apart from the TEE - transesophogeal echocardiogram). No answers were found. The background of events behind the stroke are what we truly believe hold the answer to the event itself.

Avatar n tn My 55 yr old mother had a "massive" hemorrhagic stroke Feb. 18/05. The neuro surgeon said it was a large deep bleed in the left side of her brain, apparently she is lucky to have survived it and without surgery. The latest CT scan 3.5 weeks after the stroke the blood has started to re-absorb and swelling is going down.
Avatar f tn 8 weeks ago i went to hospital after getting a dragging feeling in my leg and a bit of weakness in my arm .all on my right side .at first a mini stroke was diagnosed .but when i went back to see the doctor 3 weeks ago he said he wasn convinced that it was a stroke .ime on asprin and persantin tablets.i feel fine .just a little weakness in my arm .do u think this was a stroke.and how can i prevent another one.!.
Avatar n tn One approach is your doctors' approach of trying aspirin, and as long as you do not have a recurrence of stroke or mini-stroke, to just leave you on the aspirin. If you do have a recurrence, the next step would be to add another blood thinner in addition to aspirin. This is a sensible, common sense approach that has been used for many years. The only problem with this is that if the next stroke is a large one, it could leave you with significant disability, or worse.
