Common Questions and Answers about Mini stroke in young women

378112 tn?1199897215 My words become stuttered and/or slurred as if I'm in the middle of a stroke! No dr believed me this was going on until he seen it with his eyes (my neurologist, mind you) So again, he has no clue what's going on and has just given me more pain pills to ease my troubles!!!!! So here I am with more headaches, more eye pain (which are now getting to the point of me waking up with pink rings around my iris and bloodshot eyes???
Avatar n tn I went to the PCP and Neurologist two days later and had an MRI 5 days later and they saw a stroke in the cerebellum and signs of a mini stroke that they classified as 'old'. I fortunately did not have ongoing loss of speech, or weakness in limbs etc...but have suffered from weird dizziness and electric shock feelings in my head. They seem to get better - but then get wrose again....Dr's are saying it is maybe anxiety --but is not. I have had anxiety before and these are different.
Avatar n tn Pregnancy can cause a hypercoagulable state, and that can lead to stroke. Although the thalamus is not the most common site, more so in hypertensive stroke. Although you might not have hypertension, you might have had an episode that caused this stroke (unknown). Did they say that your talamic stroke was hemorrhagic or ischemic? Since you had a headache, I would think it would have been hemmorrhagic.
Avatar n tn During my fifth month of pregnancy I did have something like a mini stroke while I was driving. I spent a week in the hospital and was immediately put on bed rest. He was born 2 weeks early by a planned c-section and was born not breathing. He was under weight and still has health problems like asthma, allergies, and an immunity defense abnormality. My body suffered as well. They were unsure if I could even carry this baby full term, let alone deliver.
Avatar n tn I am now 33 and am thinking about having another child, but none of my doctors know for sure why I had a stroke in the first place. Both my ob and neurologist think that I should be fine, but they really have never seen this before. I keep looking for other opinions....and suggestions? Anyone out there that had a baby after a stroke?
Avatar n tn Unlike everybody else here, I am the husband and my wife had a TIA (mini stroke) in June 2009. The reasons behind the stroke to this day have never been answered. The doctors initially tried every test (apart from the TEE - transesophogeal echocardiogram). No answers were found. The background of events behind the stroke are what we truly believe hold the answer to the event itself.
Avatar n tn A stroke secondary to carotid dissection is a loss of brain function due to a stroke caused by a tear in the lining of the carotid artery (a major artery in the neck which supplies blood to the front of the brain). I basically have no blood flow to my brain except through my vertebral arteries. My carotid arteries are almost completely closed.
Avatar n tn The neurosurgeon did not offer much hope for us to survive the stroke nor in her recovery. She has already beat the odds. My mom was in ICU for 3 weeks and step-down 1 week and in rehab hospital for two months now. I have come to learn the dr.'s don't like or really now prognosis on recovery because everyone recovers differently. I have been told over and over again they don't know why some gain more function than others. My mom pulled out her breathing tube which she had for 2.
Avatar m tn I ask as my wife Monique was switched to Seasonique by her obgyn in August 2011 and had a major stroke September 3, 2011. I wasn’t convinced the birth control was responsible but we’ve had many tests done all of which are inconclusive. I am now convinced that Seasonique is the source of the stroke. She did have extensive blood testing performed which came back negative so, unlike Carmen Messina (see this article http://www.womensadventuremagazine.
Avatar n tn I had a massive stroke in April 2002, 2 weeks after I gave birth. Also, through lots of therapy and motivation of my newborn...I too have no residuals. I had a bilateral carotid dissection. I am now 35 and 6 wks. pregnant! I've always wanted to have more kids and my doctors said that I should be fine...we shall see. I am on 2 shots lovenox a day and being monitored closely. What do your docs think?
451975 tn?1372332199 While I do have some good days in a row now, I am still in this state. While the doctors tell me this is not 'mini stroke' or TMA, I do wonder. I am 51 and though healthy, my grandmother had many small strokes and died of a massive on at age 52. I find that somewhat daunting though I know I am probably in better physical shape (or was) and have a happier life. Makes you wonder though if there isn't just a 'hard wiring issue' at play here.
Avatar f tn It is scary and two months ago, I went to the doctor to make sure I was having a heart attack or stroke. He assured me all was fine. I am a 45 year old woman who is in search of an answer.
572651 tn?1531002957 It was love at first sight for me. LOL We married very young and will be married 45 years in August. Truelove is what I believe we have. I don't mean to be mushy, but he is my True Love Hope you all don't throw up!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn My mom had something similar and went in to have it removed. She has a tiny scar, but is glad it is gone. I don't know what caused it. Her procedure was outpatient, so she went home the same day.
Avatar n tn in the last two weeks i have had three blood vessels just pop in my fingers. i was not doing anything out of the ordinary. what could be causing this? should there be a cause for concern?
Avatar n tn but the majority of times blood came out in the sperm, or only after ejaculation during urination, or both in the sperm and the urine. once i woke up without having had sex that week and urinated blood. i tested my blood, sperm, and urine and the only abnormality was a high psa level. my dr said it is very rare and is that high in 40/50 year old. i did a biopsy for prostate cancer and my dr said that everything was ok. after the biopsy, i waqs back to normal.
Avatar n tn He said that the scans don't show any cause for this to be happening and it looks like it is curving in rather than the bone thinning in that area. At this point it isn't affecting my brain, so he wants me to repeat the scans in October and come back so he can see if there are any changes. Keep in touch if you find anything out about yours. and feel free to send me a message in my inbox - I have a watch on this post and my inbox and I recieve an email whenever anyone posts to it.
Avatar n tn Every article on the internet has to do with Strep B in prenatal women (when it is very dangerous for the baby) and nothing about Strep B for regular women in their 40's like me :) Thanks, I'd love to hear from anyone who has ever been treated for this disease or any doctors out there.
Avatar n tn I was so useto them at that time I thought everyone suffered the same or something. You are very young, no children, but in some time that seems to be quite prevelent for women of this day and time for women. I have never been one to go to the doctor except for normal yearly visits and our family GP for flues etc. It is like since Oct.98,with back problem and feling of a tearing in my ovary area, all on the right side, it has been one hing after anther.
Avatar m tn This past summer I went to the ER twice in a matter of days as I had a fast heart rate, numbness, dizzyness, etc.. They ran a bunch of tests on me and found everything to be normal. I've been to the doctors since then and they've taken tubes of blood and tests came back normal as well. I've also been to a cardiologist twice in the last month because I constantly worried about my heart thinking it was WAY too fast at 100-120 beats per minute. That's when at rest to!

Magnesium's role in energy production. One of the primary roles of magnesium is to activate the adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy storage molecule, to create and store energy. Avatar n tn I too am having this strange wet, warm sensation on my inner left thigh. It's been going on for the last month or so. It will happen somtimes only a few times a day or as much as 3 or 4 times an hour and lasts only few seconds. As best as I can determine it doesn't happen while I'm sleeping. SO....I did some checking and as many have already mentioned, this symptom can sometimes mean a potential blood clot.
Avatar n tn I don't have allergies of any kind and I'm in excellent health and I can learn to live with the smell of fresh baked bread in my nostrils.. I mean it could be owrse.. still I think I should get someone to check this out especially as I read about Phantom smells being a possible side efect of brain tumors...

Avatar n tn I've had numerous neurological symptoms. I do have a lump in my skull in my forehead called a Haemangioma of the Skull which caused severe pain and also spots on my brain MRIs so I am not sure what my problem is. My best wishes to you and I hope you find out what the problem is, it's very hard to be suffering so much all the time. keep looking for answers there must be one out there.
Avatar n tn Would certainly make sure that the thyroid levels (TSH and T4) as well as calcium and magnesium are all normal. One must wonder about a stroke which caused personality changes with such an abrupt change in character and mood. This would not be Alzheimers. Would consider a neurological evaluation.
Avatar n tn If you have stroke risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, family history of stroke in someone less than 50,high cholesterol, smoking, heart disease, then these could represent mini strokes. But you are relatively young for a stroke, and the diagnosis should be taken into clinical context. Best of luck.
Avatar dr m tn Researchers found that when people with Alzheimer’s and OSA are treated with CPAP, cognition and memory improves. This study was published in the November edition of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. They estimated that about 70-80% of Alzheimer’s patients have at least 5 apneas every hour. The authors concluded that CPAP may be an effective tool to improve cognitive skills if someone with Alzheimer’s also has OSA.
