Mini stroke in children

Common Questions and Answers about Mini stroke in children

stroke

Avatar n tn there is a good chance that this was a mild faint spell rather than a mini-stroke but you won't know until you have a full evaluation. probably you should get a heart evaluation as well as a doppler test of your brain and neck arteries to make sure you don't have any blockages. a doctor should also check how you feel lying down and standing up and take your blood pressure in both of those positions. happy holidays and feel better.
Avatar m tn My father, at the age of 65, went from COMPLETLY independant...to bordering at catatonic... he had a stroke 5/8...had complete loss of expressive language, and mild loss of receptive language...his major problem was in his mouth/tonge and throat...he was unable to swallow, talk clearly etc...but he was making improvments everyday...talking more, begining to try and eat etc... then 5 days ago (5/21) he had another stroke...this one was a "mini stroke.
15915009 tn?1488871938 I also vividly remember the day I was diagnosed in February 2014, in the ER and PICU where everything quickly in place since I was in a 'Thyroid Storm' episode. I was a sophomore in high school and it sucked and was in denial to be honest. I was on 45 mg of methimazole, 0.9 ml of Lugol's solution and beta blockers (I've forgotten how much) to take over the day in 3 doses for a week.
Avatar n tn I am now 33 and am thinking about having another child, but none of my doctors know for sure why I had a stroke in the first place. Both my ob and neurologist think that I should be fine, but they really have never seen this before. I keep looking for other opinions....and suggestions? Anyone out there that had a baby after a stroke?
Avatar n tn Unlike everybody else here, I am the husband and my wife had a TIA (mini stroke) in June 2009. The reasons behind the stroke to this day have never been answered. The doctors initially tried every test (apart from the TEE - transesophogeal echocardiogram). No answers were found. The background of events behind the stroke are what we truly believe hold the answer to the event itself.
Avatar n tn A stroke secondary to carotid dissection is a loss of brain function due to a stroke caused by a tear in the lining of the carotid artery (a major artery in the neck which supplies blood to the front of the brain). I basically have no blood flow to my brain except through my vertebral arteries. My carotid arteries are almost completely closed.
Avatar n tn I started out for sixty days taking her outside every single day for six-eight hours, exposing her to everything imaginable, from being in a firehouse when the engines went on a run, to touching babies, to watching children, and of course, listening to my lousy singing. She had lost the will to live. I called these "Intensive life experience" days. I took her into the best stores and wheeled her through the isles. Took her to watch children playing in the park. Took her to concerts.
Avatar n tn The neurosurgeon did not offer much hope for us to survive the stroke nor in her recovery. She has already beat the odds. My mom was in ICU for 3 weeks and step-down 1 week and in rehab hospital for two months now. I have come to learn the dr.'s don't like or really now prognosis on recovery because everyone recovers differently. I have been told over and over again they don't know why some gain more function than others. My mom pulled out her breathing tube which she had for 2.
Avatar n tn He had a real bad time about a week ago after sitting at the computer for a while and then he turned in the computer chair (swiveled) to get up and come in the other room. The swiveling deemed to set it off, so now he just gets up and pushes the chair back and does not swivel to rise. By the way I used to have panic attacks for years and was told by a Psychologist to do aerobic exercise 30 minutes per day, also started taking St.
Avatar n tn I chose coumadin Therapy to buy time until more studies were completed in reference to the various closure devices. In December of this past year, I once again started to experience multible TIA's (mini strokes). I failed Coumadin Therapy. After more research and references from this medical forum, I made my decision to go ahead with surgical closure. I am now only two months post open heart surgery. I had many opinions Cardiologists vs Cardiac Surgeons.
Avatar n tn The second they think was caused when they lowered his blood pressure it was a Ischemic stroke. The first stroke is the most severe and originated in the Putamen ( a part of the basal ganglia). The second is on the right side and I've been told it controls spatial concepts. He has started to move more today and instead of only having posturing movements he has started to bring his arms up in a more normal response.
Avatar n tn I had a massive stroke in April 2002, 2 weeks after I gave birth. Also, through lots of therapy and motivation of my newborn...I too have no residuals. I had a bilateral carotid dissection. I am now 35 and 6 wks. pregnant! I've always wanted to have more kids and my doctors said that I should be fine...we shall see. I am on 2 shots lovenox a day and being monitored closely. What do your docs think?
451975 tn?1372332199 While I do have some good days in a row now, I am still in this state. While the doctors tell me this is not 'mini stroke' or TMA, I do wonder. I am 51 and though healthy, my grandmother had many small strokes and died of a massive on at age 52. I find that somewhat daunting though I know I am probably in better physical shape (or was) and have a happier life. Makes you wonder though if there isn't just a 'hard wiring issue' at play here.
Avatar f tn By the way, my stroke was a carotid artery dissection stroke which is far more common in younger people. Was your stroke this type? I really appreciate you responding back to me and reminding me of the good. I'm sure that you will keep making gains. There is a lot of good ahead for you.
572651 tn?1531002957 I drove a big service van and carried hundreds of pounds of equipment up ladders sometimes three stories high all day long. I worked on 135 degree roofs in summer and below freezing in winter. I still love mechanical things. Oh and I did this after dropping out of Grad School for Art History.
Avatar f tn I have had these lumps since my first baby was born in 2001. I now have 4 children and have had problems with the tenderness of them for the past six years. They are the size of ping-pong balls and it is very hard to find a bra that fits with out it rubbing or poking the excess tissue. It is very embarrasing. I won't wear a sleeveless shirt. However, my best friend is getting married this Sept. and I am the Maid of Honor. Of coarse the dresses are sleeveless.
Avatar n tn in the last two weeks i have had three blood vessels just pop in my fingers. i was not doing anything out of the ordinary. what could be causing this? should there be a cause for concern?
Avatar n tn The MD thinks this is ALL stress related and it will pass. She thought maybe it was a mini stroke, but did not show on the CT. When I take a mild tranquilizer the symptoms do subside, but I am not sure if that is significant. Should I be concerned about ALS, MS, Parkinsons? Could this be a reaction to the novacaine? The plastic resin filling??? I am considering just having the tooth pulled because I think I might be having a reaction to the material in it.
Avatar n tn As far as the memory issues, well. . .I am a mother of 6 and grandmother of 5 so far, and I AM in my mid-40's. I believe that children steal brain cells anyway! For Wuu108, I am all for any further enlightenment or spiritual awareness or whatever you want to call it. Over that past 2 years, I would say that I have much more heightened spiritual awareness, but I'm not sure it has anything to do with the dent in my skull. But I think I will contemplate what you posted.
Avatar n tn I haven't even been to a doctor because they've rarely helped me or my children in the past. In the meantime, I'm going to abstain from sex and see if my body heals itself while I keep digging for answers. If any believers are out there, get to praying for answers, because I haven't heard any good ones yet.
Avatar f tn Went to the docs just in case and he did a motor test to make sure it wasn't some form of mini-stroke. Everything was fine. Believe it or not, this is called Exploding Head Syndrome. Usually just before or after you drop into a deep sleep - people who are stressed, tired or insomniacs especially. I'm a night owl. http://www.sleepassociation.org/index.php?
Avatar n tn Oh, P.S. before I left Louisiana, I had a carotid artery test done, which came back normal. My dad died of stroke in 1983, which years before was preceded by several "mini-strokes". He did have a brain operation, in which they had to remove a portion which had turned to "mush" (I guess from lack of oxygen or blood flow). That is the main reason I am concerned. Thanks.
Avatar f tn In my (extensive) experience, the number 1 cause for mysteriously blurred vision in one eye in a female child this age is "making it up". And I cannot tell you how many times I have been assured that this would be totally out of character for the child. Also, the types of "out of focus" problems that affect children do not cause constant blurred distance vision and occasional blurred near vision...but she doesn't know that.
2186126 tn?1384961026 ( She was my princess (and baby since I dont have any children) and I loved her so much and loved her MORE than I ever could during those last months. The vet told me she wasn't in any pain and just to expect her to grow weak and she did. Just love him as much as possible, be his best friend as he needs you now more than ever. I wish you the best!! And again, I'm so sorry to hear. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.
Avatar n tn My mom suffered a blackout like that as i called it due to having high cholesterol which caused her a mini stroke. I had noticed the symptoms one day afterbtalking to her via phone that day an hour later my stepdad called me back and asked what i said to mom cus she was repeating herself and had forgotten somethings that day. My mom is great with numbers, birthdays, phone numbers.
Avatar m tn This past summer I went to the ER twice in a matter of days as I had a fast heart rate, numbness, dizzyness, etc.. They ran a bunch of tests on me and found everything to be normal. I've been to the doctors since then and they've taken tubes of blood and tests came back normal as well. I've also been to a cardiologist twice in the last month because I constantly worried about my heart thinking it was WAY too fast at 100-120 beats per minute. That's when at rest to!
Avatar f tn Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination Sudden, severe headache with no known cause Take action in an emergency. Not all the warning signs occur in every stroke. Don't ignore signs of stroke, even if they go away! Check the time. When did the first warning sign or symptom start?
Avatar f tn Reglan (metoclopromadine) is a very cheap medication, unfortunately, it is also metabolized in the kidneys, so a too high dose results in toxic levels in the blood. My husband and I discovered that completely bypassing the GI tract by using reglan injections worked much better in the end. Chica didn't get the extra pyramidal side effects (extreme restlessness, shaking and trembling) from the reglan injections that she got from the oral meds.
Avatar n tn Neuropathy, fibromyalga, COPD, carpal tunnel( had surgery), osteopena, degenerative disc disease, mini stroke, arthosis on the spine etc.. I'm just tired of the pain it's cripling and don't know how much longer I can take it. Sorry if I bored anyone, but it seems noone understands me or listens to the way it makes me feel.
Avatar n tn I was so useto them at that time I thought everyone suffered the same or something. You are very young, no children, but in some time that seems to be quite prevelent for women of this day and time for women. I have never been one to go to the doctor except for normal yearly visits and our family GP for flues etc. It is like since Oct.98,with back problem and feling of a tearing in my ovary area, all on the right side, it has been one hing after anther.
