milk thistle while pregnant

I have been using milk thistle since 1992. I do not use it while on treatment, but having failed two other rounds of treatment, I do know that when I am using it,my liver numbers are lower. It does not cure Hep C, but it has been shown to help with liver damage.

Do NOT take milk thistle while on treatment as it can hurt the efficacy of the medications. In fact unless you know for a fact (that the supplement has been studied thoroughly for reactions to interferon and ribavirin) that it won't hurt anything it's definitely better safe than sorry.

Where can I find milk thistle?? And can I add that while taken pegasys and ribavirin?? Thanks in advance!!

when I mentioned to my doctor that I took MILK THISTLE, he gave me a look of disgust. He never answered me should I not take it...is it just hype, or does it mabey have some benifit?

I would like more information on this milk thistle everyone keeps talking about along with what is classified as a 'heatlhy diet'..... From vegetables, fruit, drinks, meat etc.....

I just purchased milk thistle tablets and a bottle of organic liquid milk thistle. Read the bottle of the liquid version closer when I got home: 88% organic alcohol content. How can something be marketed for good liver function yet contain alcohol. Am I missing something? What is the liquid form supposed to be used for?

I had digetstion problems (gas, etc) with Milk Thistle but kept it up and the problems went away. Do the Milk Thistle and all the other recomended nutrients here by HR and Gauff and others. These are positive things you can do today, while you wait.

There is no consensus among hepatologists about taking mik thistle, so for that reason I wouldn't do it. That said, there are members here who have reported that their hepatologists had no problem with their patients taking it. Some hepatologists say it's okay to take only before or after treatment itself and some say it's even okay to take during treatment. I would definitely look to the advice of your own hepatologist in this matter, if you want to pursue it.

I have been taking Milk Thistle and my dr. said I could keep taking on trtmt as long as I had already been taking it. Thought I read that this is not advised? Thanks!

my DR told me to stay away from any suppliments, especially Milk Thistle. I also understand that while in treatment, you don't want to take anything that alters your tracking enzymes. i'm newly diagnosed and still trying to weed (sorry for the pun) my way thru this type of information.

What does anyone know about Milk Thistle and/or Licorice Root for liver function? I've heard that in the beginning of the disease it can help. Not so in the end stages. Also, does anyone have any input regarding Noni juice?

You gotta lose weight. Milk Thistle, Milk thistle, milk thistle! also aloe vera juice ... not much --4 oz a day to start. When they do the the big test at wk 4, you'll be happy to see your HepC cleared or almost cleared. Good luck and don't forget to pray to Our Lady!

Milk thistle is used for the liver - - - there are no contraindications for the milk thistle and pain pills .......

How many among you are taking or have taken Milk Thistle. I started taking one tablet a day and Doc was amazed to see decline in the Viral Load from 11000 to 120 in less than 3 months. Cant be absolute if this was because of Milk Thistle or something else.. No diff on ALT remained 80.. rest normal.

I forgot to tell you after you go to mayo clinic review of milk thistle you go to the site that says Milk Thistle and under that it has Mayo Clinic and it does give a web address www.mayoclinic.com/health/silymarin/NS-patient-milkthistle/ I tried it and can't get there so it is easier to just do it like I said.

Are you sure about the Milk Thistle restriction while on Incivek? St. Johns Wort is prohibited, but I've never heard that about Milk Thistle...
