Avatar n tn Some individuals have high uric acid levels in blood and this results in the formation of uric acid crystals in the semen. Such individuals are prone to developing gout and need to focus on a low-purine diet. High-purine foods include meat, fish, beer, alcohol, and breads made with yeast. Foods low in purine include green leafy vegetables, milk and milk products, breads that are made without yeast, coffee and tea, etc. Foods like white meat and cauliflower, green peas, etc.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a 26 yr old male who recently had a mild gout attack because the uric acid levels in my blood were high and so as my cholesterol. The gout is gone now after watching my diet, keeping away from high purines and taking medicine. I just don't want it to come back, so i began researching the internet on what to do. I am quite confused about what foods to eat and avoid for Gout, as what i am reading over the internet, some things seem to be contradictory with each other.
1028452 tn?1537448484 1- Daily walking of at least 3 hrs ( fast ) 2- Watching my gout diet 3- Drinking at least 6 glasses of alkaline ionized water of pH 9 4- I stopped taking any medicine 5- I had no gout attack since I started my new lifestyle After a month I had my blood test result, what really surprised me was my high uric acid of 10.1 everything was fine except Uric Acid. Avatar n tn I take Hep C Complete, which has Selenium, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Milk Thistle, to this I add vitamins B, C, E, magnesium and zinc. I suffer fatigue, it used to be a very severe fatigue, but since taking the supplements above my fatigue is now moderate. It has helped me, to the degree that I also do not have 'anxiety attacks', which I have suffered from for 12 years.
Avatar f tn We do have the right to express our opinions, with a few exceptions, health matters being one of them, that arena needs peer reviewed science. Did I miss something regarding milk thistle? The main point seems to be milk thistle "walls" off the live preventing it from doing its job.

Avatar n tn Diet should be relatively high in carbohydrates and low in fat since carbohydrates have been shown to favor uric acid excretion. Drinking plenty of fluids can also help in eliminating excess uric acid and in minimizing calculi formation.Low purine diet should be 120-150 mg/day. All vegetables except asparagus, cauliflower, mushroom or spinach are recommended. Milk, cheese and meat, tea or coffee, fruits and gelatins are allowed. I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
1717054 tn?1316712653 My Gastro told me i should definitely keep taking my supplements during treatment, which include Milk Thistle as well as the Alpha R Lipoic Acid. My personal criteria is that I research the company making these supplements and get the purest, best quality product I can buy. They are NOT all made equally, the same as the vitamins we take. Many may not be familiar with the Alpha R Lipoic Acid so I posted below the benefits.....
Avatar f tn More rarely, it may cause nausea, bloating, gas, and upset stomach. f you have a ragweed allergy, you should also avoid milk thistle. Milk thistle may cause a rash or lead to severe allergic reaction. Since milk thistle may mimic the effects of estrogen, some women should avoid this herb. This includes women who have fibroid tumors or endometriosis. Additionally, women with breast, uterine, and ovarian cancers should not take milk thistle. This is how much I know about Milk Thistle.

Avatar m tn Does anybody know if taking selenium, milk thistle, and alfa lipoic acid can be harmful while on interferon and ribavirin treatment? While the HepC virus has been undetected since week 8, Alt and Ast have been "stuck" around 60-70 for the last three months during treatment. Prior to treatment, a capsule containing selenium, milk thistle, and alfa lipoic acid was very effective in getting my Alt and Ast down. Am now in week 24 of treatment, of 48.
Avatar n tn Uric acid is a byproduct of the chemical breakdown of compounds called 'purines' that exist in our body's cells and in our food. Purines are very important to us because they provide things like our energy that we all need and our protein. During this process uric acid is produced in the bloodstream. And uric acid is good for us because it acts as an antioxidant and helps look after the internal linings of our blood vessels.
