Avatar m tn The results showed that the mRNA level of both HBV core protein and surface protein were reduced in cells incubated with both non-toxic concentrations of BLF. Our findings suggested that BLF was able to inhibit HBV repli- cation." http://ccaasmag.org/bio_2011/vol1/ChenWN_Lactoferrin_anti-HBV.pdf Anyone heard or had any experience with this potential treatment?
Avatar f tn Hello, Most of the breast-fed babies develop lactose intolerance which usually self corrects but not always if it is a cow milk or a formula milk "problem" or allergy/intolrance with some dietary ingredient. Most babies with milk allergy are allergic to cow’s milk protein, while others are allergic to soy protein, and some to both. Breast-fed infants normally have stools that look like watery, yellow cottage cheese.
290867 tn?1333569278 Neocate you can only get on prescription so you will have to see a pediatrician to prescribe it for you - its part of the PBS meds - what makes it different from the rest is that the milk protein is broken down into amino acids and the baby's body cannot recognize it as a milk protein.
Avatar n tn So Im going to be feeding baby formula milk from day one. Has anybody done this? And im shocked at all the different brands any ideas which is best?
Avatar f tn a possible cows milk protein intolerance/allergy, but will only drink aptamil 1st milk -21ozs a day and is on 3 meals a day, why is he putting on so little weight? my daughter is 2 and half and was loads bigger than him at the same age!!
Avatar n tn Diarrhea is a sign of intolerance. He may have trouble digesting cow's milk protein. You might have to take him to the Dr for formula recommendations. I'd either be soy or a formula that has partially digested milk proteins already. If you can start breastfeeding again i say go for it. Less of a hassle.
2061712 tn?1355244263 We than switched to Nutramigen and then Alimentum for babies with milk protein intollerance. We had stocked up on the first formula and ended up having to give it to my cousin for her little boy. It's best to not stock up just in case your baby can't take the formula.
Avatar n tn Suggest changing from Nutramigen to soy milk because it is recommended not to use this formula over 6 months - 1years old. He will get extra protein and calories from the soy milk. You can make soy shakes with soy milk, soy ice cream and frozen fruit which also will provide extra calories and nutrients. Decrease the juice intake and increase the milk intake to help increase his weight. Hoped this helped you.
Avatar m tn I am concerned about this and wish to remove her from soy and try almond milk (she has no tree nut allergies). My concern is almond milk has very little protein. What should I give her to provide her with enough protein that cow's milk has? Do I give her protein pills? Are there any side effects of almond milk?
419158 tn?1316571604 I have bugga on SOY from good start, and so far its okay, we did have her on soy on similac and she was okay with that as well. But with the regular formula with milk protein in it, she would spit that up...So Idk if it could be different brands as well. Its sooo funny how a dr. can seem to tell you how your OWN child is doing when they aren't the one changing their diapers and seeing how they are at home.
Avatar n tn An older child needs more then baby formula. Use Pediasure in place of milk and the formula which will give her extra calories and protein. As a guideline for an 18 month old child should eat the following: Dairy 4 feedings a day – Milk-use Pediasure (4oz), cheese (½ oz), yogurt (½ cup), or cottage cheese (¼ cup). Starch 4 feedings a day – Cereal (¼ cup), pasta (¼ cup), rice (¼ cup), bread (½ slice), or crackers (2).
Avatar n tn Suggest giving her milkshakes (ice cream, fresh fruit or frozen fruit, milk) or yogurt smoothies (yogurt, fresh fruit, and frozen fruit) instead of formula and for additional calories, protein, and vitamins and minerals. She can help make them, too. For her age infant formula will not provide the nutrients she needs. The most important thing is to RELAX. Let her eat what she wants. Slowly introduce new foods, and if she does not want it, do not make a fuss over it.
Avatar n tn Angel, my suggestion would to try to narrow down the problem. If you know she gets gas with dairy, the problem could be due to the milk sugar - lactose - or the milk protein - casein. If it's the milk sugar, you could just go lactose free. But if it's the protein, you'll have to go dairy-free completely - no dairy of any kind. Try going to Enterolab.com and read about the fecal antibody test for casein intolerance. You may want to do that test to find out.
418700 tn?1212682049 I have 5 month old twins.
470885 tn?1326329037 Have you considered trying to mix milk and formula or breastmilk to ease him to the cup since he does love milk? You can start with mostly milk and a little of other, and then gradually up the breastmilk or formula. Even if you never make it to full breastmilk or formula, even 50/50 for the next few months is better than none.
336902 tn?1242006090 Bloody stools, eczema, and diarrhea are all STRONG signs of MSPI (milk/soy protein intolerance). Alimentum is still milk based, it's just that the proteins are completely broken down. Sometimes even the broken down proteins are too much for a baby to handle. I agree with blueeyedtabbycat to ask for an Rx for Neocate. It is an elemental formula (not made with any milk or soy proteins) and it sounds like it is the best option for your little one.
Avatar f tn We had to use alimentum for six months as my dd had a milk protein intolerance, then we safely switched to soy. All you can do is try a brand or type of formula and see how it works.
Avatar f tn Test for food allergy AND milk protein peptides showing up in the urine, indicating enzyme deficiency in breaking down milk protein. Is he irritable or occasionally spike fevers for no reason? My sons weight was in the 10th percentile and I went to the doctor from the time he was 10 months old for that and his emotional coping problems. I thought they must somehow be related, but was told no.
Avatar m tn I'm not a fan of soy milk either. Long list of potential imbalances and hormonal effects. I'm also not a big fan of drinking milk anyway (I prefer getting my dairy through yogurt, kefir, cheese, etc) and for drinking I prefer water (for cold) and tea or espresso (for hot). And I enjoy my one glass of red wine for dinner. I also eat full fat dairy, use cream and butter and ghee in my food, opting always for grass fed free range, to get very high quality macro and micronutrients.
Avatar f tn I would start either half and half (Half milk and half formula) in his bottle or try alternating between formula and milk. Have you introduced any other milk products to him yet? My son is lactose intolerant so it will be soy based milk when he transitions. I would try to contact your family physician about transitioning him onto milk as soon as possible. At 12 months old a child is ready for cow's milk unless they have an allergy.
Avatar f tn He's 15 mos. and he is allergic to milk protein. He was on soy formula to start now that he eats solids (well sometimes :) he is on the soy next step. We have tried dairy again to see if he'd outgrown it but still got hives etc. I myself couldn't do dairy until I was closer to 3 my mom told me and till this day I can't tolerate lactose.
Avatar f tn B) to commenter DreamaMama - powdered milk is not a substitute for formula. Babies should drink nothing but breast milk or infant formula before the age of 12 months - no juice, no water, and certainly not powdered milk.
4444857 tn?1383325813 Idk if she can have milk based formula though because all the milk based ones we've tried she was constantly spitting up. That's why we're on nutramigen because its not milk based.
363110 tn?1340920419 His tummy/digestive system already handles high calorie formula w/extra protein... and if he began drinking milk, we could lay off the extra calorie formula since we could add calories into the milk instead.
10939157 tn?1413971264 Formula According to baby formula reviews in Buzzillions, the top 3 formulas all received 5-star ratings, and included Nestle Good Start, Nestle Supreme, and Similac Alimentum Hypoallergenic formula. Nestle Good Start with DHA and ARA Natural Cultures had the highest review standing. DHA and ARA are important in the promotion of immune system function, growth and development, as well as, eyes and brain.
Avatar f tn Has anyone done both at the same time?? Whether it's been formula and breast feeding or formula and bottle fed breast milk?? What's your experience been? How was baby with two types? What type of formula dos you use? Tell me everything !
Avatar f tn If Trinity has MSPI (milk/soy protein intolerance) and struggles to digest a milk or soy based formula (fusiness, gas, bowel issues, eczema...lots of symptoms)...there are options such as Similar Alimentum or Enfamil Nutramigen. They are hypo-allergenic formulas where the milk/soy proteins are COMPLETELY broken down so it's easier to digest. If even those formulas cannot be tolerated, you can resort to Neocare or Elecare (doctor prescribed).
961466 tn?1247550382 corn, soy, cows milk, wheat, berries, nuts (especially peanuts), fish(especially shellfish) and tomatoes. Cows milk and nuts seem to present most severe and cows milk protein can take two weeks to leave your system. You can try eliminating all of these foods for 3 weeks and see what happens.
