Avatar n tn We are afraid that if we give him soy milk, he may develop an allergy to it. While kids tend to outgrow allergies to dairy, wheat and eggs, we have read that allergies to soy and peanuts are harder to outgrow. We would like to avoid giving him soy until he is over three years old. However, the nutritional benefit of soy may be worth giving it to him now. Should we give him soy milk? How likely is it that he will become allergic to it?

Avatar n tn Hi! Congratulations on the birth of your baby! I have 4 children, all were breastfed, and one had milk allergy. She didn't have bloody stools when she came in contact with milk, but did get severe hives, even if she just touched milk. She didn't outgrow this until she was 2. I too had to stop drinking all dairy products. Lookout for milk hidden in certain products, like candy bars, and processed foods. You can check out the food allergy network for products that are milk free.

2113262 tn?1346101921 My son was allergic to strawberry in any form when he was young, he outgrew it to develop acute egg allergy and banana allergy. A friend baked him a cake and he took a small bite to see how he would feel...he knew right away that he shouldn't have any more. I'm not sure a 6 year old could pick up on this as easily, so I feel why not wait a little longer, and then let the Allergist who specializes in allergies tell you when and how to re-introduce these foods to her.
964234 tn?1331949207 t have the rash at his last appointment. Doctor dismissed the thought of an allergy to milk because of this. Now that he has this rash I am starting to wonder? Any thoughts and experience would be appreciated. Also, the doctor was saying switching him to soy would probably make his gas and constipation worse? But, she said I can give it a try if I want. Another thought of hers is that he has an immature digestive system. I can use which ever formula I want, he will still be fussy.
Avatar n tn If she got better on goat's milk, I would cut all cow's milk products out of her diet entirely. No cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, things made with milk, etc. If the spasms are out of her control, the doctors should be interested in helping you. If they are just behavioral, she'll probably outgrow the habit as she finds she can poo without having all that congestion.

Avatar f tn He does however have a severe Milk allergy that he may not outgrow. He also has severe GERD, worse than expected, so he is scheduled for an Upper GI at childrens hospital next week. The Pediatric GI took Conner off of Prevacid(will explain at the end of this update) but raised his Zantac to the max which is 1.5 ML's twice daily. He also has me giving him 1 tsp of Dark Karo syrup 2-3 times a day mixed in his bottle for constipation(it's working).
Avatar f tn Peanut allergies are also on the rise in the little ones. Some kids do outgrow certain allergies, but this really does vary from individual to individual. For now, keep peanut products away from him and read labels and watch for warnings. There are labels warning of products that are not peanut products that say that they are made on the same equipment as where peanuts were processed. Be on the alert for this, depending on how severe his allergy is.

Avatar f tn I've always been allergic (not lactose intolerance) to milk since I was born. Now at 5 weeks all I want to eat is milk and things made from milk. Does this mean my baby isn't allergic to milk? Or my allergy for milk going away since I'm pregnant? Or just being pregnant cravings? I don't want to drink milk thinking I'm not allergic and get sick. Help please?
Avatar f tn It is uncommon to “outgrow” an allergy to cat dander in all periods of life with the possible exception of doing at age 70-75 and later. Dog allergens are less potent and more likely, yet still uncommonly, to resolve or attenuate over one’s adult life. To that extent these animal allergies are, for the most part “a lifelong affliction.
