Avatar m tn I have two children ages 21months and 5 years. I believe that they have an allergy to milk. It seems like everytime we give them some form of milk, ice cream, yogurt, it seems to make their nose run and cough. for example last night we gave our 21month old ice cream for a dessert after supper. Shes goes to bed at 7:30pm and by 10pm she was up coughing. She didnt have any ice cream the night before and was never up coughing..
Avatar n tn Hi, I I have two children and they are both lactose intolerant and I am as well (kids were not tested but have similar symptoms as your daughter.) I have them both drinking soy milk-which has as many nutrients as regular milk and they handle it better. My daughter does say the soy gives her a stomach ache sometimes so now she is on rice milk. There are other alternatives other than regular dairy milk-there is the soy, rice, and almond milk. I would ask your doctor about using these instead.
Avatar f tn I was advised with my daughter to get her tested for milk allergy, casein sensitivity before changing her diet (although I did temporarily change it and had problems getting her to eat anything so I talked to her pediatrician and that's why they tested her... got a big lecture on not goign to the pediatrician first before doing anything). Her developmental pediatrician who diagnosed her with PDD also cautioned me against changing diet with consulting a doctor first.
1900997 tn?1321659956 Thanks for your reply! Thing is though, lactose-free milk causes exactly the same symptoms, so surely there must be something else going on here?
Avatar f tn Possibly. He supposedly had a milk protein allergy as an infant but by 1 years old when we tried real milk, he didn't have the same symptoms (excessive gas, blood in stool). We'll see how it goes. I did start cutting out his before bed milk.
Avatar m tn Milk intolerance causes different symptoms and requires different treatment than does a true milk allergy. Common signs and symptoms of milk protein or lactose intolerance include digestive problems, such as bloating, gas or diarrhea, after consuming milk. ' You could read more about this at the following link - http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/milk-allergy/DS01008 See a doctor or allergist if you experience food allergy symptoms shortly after eating.
Avatar f tn a possible cows milk protein intolerance/allergy, but will only drink aptamil 1st milk -21ozs a day and is on 3 meals a day, why is he putting on so little weight? my daughter is 2 and half and was loads bigger than him at the same age!!
Avatar f tn Just saw your post and I agree with the avocado's. Been eating at least one every day and I'm much more focused. It's the omega 3 oils in them I think... Also, for the last two months I've been as gluten free as possible. I thought at first I was allergic as my stomach was having issues with everything. But the allergy tests showed up negative for gluten/wheat and milk. However, I don't do well on milk either.
Avatar n tn Hi ! Has your daughter tried rice or soy milk ? If not, those are two options that you may want to discuss with her physician. Also, I would highly recommend considering purchasing a homeopathic supplement for dairy allergies. It worked for my husband's allergy to dairy (he used to get welts !) and may work for your daughter. Of course you should also discuss this with your daughter's physician and if your daughter has a severe allergy to milk...
Avatar f tn So, finding out if you have a lactose allergy is important. What other symptoms do you have?
Avatar m tn I wondered about thyroid but the nurse practitioner said it was good. Could a milk allergy or absorption problem cause these symptoms? He talked later than normal and had speech therapy for a year. His speech is good now but misses still a couple of letters. thriving in school just seems to be tired and pale a lot of the time. He is the first to fall asleep. He does eat mostly what I give him. He does eat a variety of foods. He perplexes me. We have 6 kids and I am an LPN.
Avatar f tn u could have a allergy called lactose intolerance which basically means u cant break down the sugars from lactose which is mainly found in dairy products there are tests for this with your doctor{breath tests} and is very common.
Avatar f tn Continued that day then diarrhea for approx 4 to 5 days. Recently a GI diagnosed possible DELAYED MILK Allergy. He does keep a mild bumpy rash on upper arms. My concern is can this type of allergy really cause this type of cycle? I would think he would have more symptoms closer together. We began NO milk protein diet& scheduled MRI next month. Will MRI only show brain or can they see intestinal problems as well?
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to the forum. The fact that your daughter is only 3 months, makes it a rather delicate and challenging matter. I would not attempt anything that would even remotely suggest a possible side-effect. Holistic allergy elimination for babies, would be the only approach that I would recommend at this point. It is 100% non-invasive, safe, efficient and simple. You need to search for a Doctor or Practitioner in your area that is trained in N.A.E.T. (Dr.
Avatar f tn m a mom to children with severe food allergies .. somebody once told me that meat can contain caseine as a preservative ??? that is a derivative of caseine which is milk protein. Hope this helps. WELCOME!
Avatar f tn To find out whether your child is having contact dermatitis to milk(eczema)or he is having milk allergy(rashes are present in the mild form of milk allergy),skin tests and food challenge tests have to be done by an allergist.Pls consult him for that. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn he asked us to remove tomato and all milk products, non veg from her diet.to make her wear full body covered clothes, not to take her to gardens.he said we will have to take these precautions till she is 12. can anybody else help me........
Avatar f tn If I was unable to breastfeed I woulkd give my little one goats milk fo rsure which is most like breast milk then any other milk on th emarket. Hope this helps ya!
Avatar m tn The baby may show reaction towards breast milk also if the mother is taking dairy products in her diet.Diagnosis of milk allergy can be confirmed after skin ***** or patch tests and food challenge tests.Confirmation can be done with blood tests like RAST.It also helps in differentiating milk allergy from lactose intolerance. You need to consult an allergy specialist for that. Treatment involoves elimination of all dairy products from the diet.
Avatar n tn Hi! Congratulations on the birth of your baby! I have 4 children, all were breastfed, and one had milk allergy. She didn't have bloody stools when she came in contact with milk, but did get severe hives, even if she just touched milk. She didn't outgrow this until she was 2. I too had to stop drinking all dairy products. Lookout for milk hidden in certain products, like candy bars, and processed foods. You can check out the food allergy network for products that are milk free.
Avatar m tn Soy allergy is most common in children, especially toddlers and infants. As you grow older, your digestive system matures and your body is less likely to absorb food or food components that trigger allergies. In some cases, people who are allergic to wheat, beans (legumes), milk or other foods can have an allergic reaction to soy. You can confirm this by blood test to see for raised IgE levels and skin testing for soy products.
Avatar m tn Milk, and dairy of such doesnt give me diarrhea or pain, like common lactose tolerance symptoms. Milk just alters my stools, turning them light colored after a few days of drinking it. So does sour cream and ice cream. I dont have this problem with cheese, and the lactose tolerance pills did not make a difference in this, because I tried them. For a while my doctor couldnt get my iron up, and we couldnt figure out why.
Avatar f tn Hello, Most of the breast-fed babies develop lactose intolerance which usually self corrects but not always if it is a cow milk or a formula milk "problem" or allergy/intolrance with some dietary ingredient. Most babies with milk allergy are allergic to cow’s milk protein, while others are allergic to soy protein, and some to both. Breast-fed infants normally have stools that look like watery, yellow cottage cheese.
Avatar f tn I've always been allergic (not lactose intolerance) to milk since I was born. Now at 5 weeks all I want to eat is milk and things made from milk. Does this mean my baby isn't allergic to milk? Or my allergy for milk going away since I'm pregnant? Or just being pregnant cravings? I don't want to drink milk thinking I'm not allergic and get sick. Help please?
782550 tn?1333484257 Like wheat or gluten contains riboflavin which is found in milk also.So people allergic to milk may show allergy towards wheat also. This phenomena is called cross reactivity. Pls do not consume any form of dairy product. In addition to the avoidance of allergen in your diet, you can take some OTC antihistaminics like benadryl or Claritin. They can relieve the symptoms. If your symptoms do not improve then pls consult an allergy specialist. You may need steroids or immunotherapy.
