Common Questions and Answers about Milk allergy breastfeeding

milk

Avatar n tn Hi! Congratulations on the birth of your baby! I have 4 children, all were breastfed, and one had milk allergy. She didn't have bloody stools when she came in contact with milk, but did get severe hives, even if she just touched milk. She didn't outgrow this until she was 2. I too had to stop drinking all dairy products. Lookout for milk hidden in certain products, like candy bars, and processed foods. You can check out the food allergy network for products that are milk free.
Avatar n tn d either be soy or a formula that has partially digested milk proteins already. If you can start breastfeeding again i say go for it. Less of a hassle.
Avatar f tn I breastfed my son for a year and once he turned one he switched to cow milk and I used dollar general allergy medicine to dry up my milk and it took a few days.
Avatar f tn Is he breastfeeding or having the breast milk from a bottle? If the latter, he may be drinking too fast. If from the breast it could be reflux but it could also be an allergy to something in your milk. Also is he throwing up a lot (projectile) or just a little bit. If.it's just a little bit it could just be normal spit up. Unfortunately if it is reflux most doctors won't do anything while baby is young or if he's still gaining weight.
2136147 tn?1336405833 My sisters son did and she had the same thing with the no dairy while she was breastfeeding him. She is still breastfeeding her other son at 14 months!! but she hasnt given him cows milk yet I dont think. Heather that is the exact same thing my sister went thru with her son with the screaming all the time and upset tummy due to the dairy. Her friends daughter had the same thing. Hoping I dont have that because oh my I love milk!!!!!
Avatar f tn Just left the Gastroenterologist. My son has a milk and soy allergy. He's 5 wks old and I'm breastfeeding so now have to stick to a strict Dairy and soy free diet. Are there any websites out there that provide a list if do's and don't's?? And do you mommies who've had to do this yourselves have any pointers?? Thanks so much for reading. Any tips are appreciated!!
Avatar f tn If u want to dry ur milk up just take some over the counter allergy medicine. It has antihistamines in it and that drys up ur milk. I took the dollar general brand when my son turned 1 and switched to cow milk.
Avatar f tn What can you eat and not eat while breastfeeding ? I have heard alot of things from people my culture about what I shouldnt eat while breastfeeding.. Is like they want me to go on a strict diet lol or Ill make my baby sick etc .. Btw im from El Salvador .. Anyone else speaks spanish ?
Avatar n tn I tried breastfeeding both of my sons but neither latched on so I found it easier to pump before have the bags of milk in the fridge for the next 3 feedings and just pump throughout the day when I felt like I needed too my first I manually pumped for 5 weeks before I stopped and my second was 2 weeks old when I stopped only because he has a very severe milk allergy and I plan on doing the pumping again this time with this baby
Avatar f tn Take allergy medicine. When my son turned 1 I was done breastfeeding so my doctor said antihistamine in medicine dries ur milk up. Get the nin drowsy kind. Took about a week.
Avatar f tn I weighed 133 when I got pregnant with my first son and weighed 182 when I had him and after 6 weeks I was down to 150 before starting formula feeding then when he was 4 months old I was at 146 when I got pregnant with my second and when he was born I weighed 173 after 2 weeks I had to stop breast feeding due to him having a milk allergy but I didn't stop producing milk so when he was 2 months old I was down to 149 and then got pregnant with my third I'm now 13 weeks pregnant
961466 tn?1247550382 Please take her to the hospital or dr and have them do an ultrasound to check for pyloric stenosis if they rule that out it could be a milk protein allergy in which you would have to eliminate all milk from your diet if breastfeeding or you need to switch formula. But please have your dr rule out pyloric stenosis asap. If she is not keeping anything down you should consider taking her to the hospital, infants dehydrate VERY quickly.
Avatar f tn My son has had eczema since he was a couple of months old but we didnt see any signs of allergy until i stopped breastfeeding him and he had breathing problems , when we had him tested we found he had allergies from many foods like garlic, lemons, oranges, grapes, sunflower seeds and oil, olives and olive oil, peaches, apples, lobster, cheeses , and cows milk but yoghurt is ok and chocolate so some things with cows milk were fine, we could give him some of these foods in moderation and not more
Avatar n tn I found a lump on my right breast while breastfeeding my 8 months old baby. I went for a mammogram and the doctor told me to stop breastfeeding in order to do the biopsy. I breastfed all my babies and having problem giving the bottle to the baby. If I can, I never wants to give a formula to my baby. On top of that she is allergic to milk and soy . Any advice? Thanks.
Avatar f tn It happens to me sometimes too. It is a noticeable sensation as you described for me as well, but i don't experience pain with it. It kind of feels like an electric charge from the sneeze running through my milk ducts. I haven't had milk for more than 10 years.
Avatar f tn I'm 31 weeks. And I've been told I should start producing milk but I haven't seen any yet...is this normal ?
489099 tn?1286220981 Timmy is doing great, took him in for a doctor visit and he is 9 pounds 4 ounces, which is perfect. He does have some type of allergy thing going on so since im breastfeeding and doing formula at the same time (he is a hungry monster) i had to change his formula and now im on a strict diet :( Other than that he is healthy and growing.
Avatar m tn His immune system was attacking itself and his kidneys and intestines. Which I strongly believe his milk allergy caused it. Now that we know how sensitive he is to milk. We now know, he has a reaction 4 hours later. We have to be super strict being dairy free, but it's worth the trouble. No more problems anymore. But I don't know the answer for infants not breastfeeding, because soy is also dangerous, filled with harmones. It's definantly something to watch.
Avatar f tn I had to switch to a sensitive formula. Little did we know she had a allergy to milk and all the gas and not pooping was being caused by that.
392430 tn?1382904781 THEN Blake started having bloody stools and they kept getting worse and worse so we finally took her into the ER and they checked her out and said that she more than likely had a severe milk allergy and I had to cut out all dairy (which I thought I already did because I read that too) so I ended up switching her to Alimentum formula and giving her a little breast milk here and there but she still had a little blood so I cut out my milk all together and she is fine! Ahh!
Avatar f tn ) The first weeks I had sore nipples/scabs problems that made breastfeeding complicated. Mothers milk plus capsules helped me and eating healthy and having lots of water. I tried not stressing about it either. Unless your body is just not able to, I think most breastfeeding problems are due to not really knowing how breastfeeding works, especially as a first time mom, that was the case for me.
Avatar n tn My son also has a milk allergy. Your grandson should be tested for various food allergies as well: milk, Celiac disease. Ps: CF can only be diarrhea at first without the lungs problems but hopefully this is not what your grandson has.
Avatar f tn No. Not colic. Allergy yes bc of what mom was wearing or eating. But normally the milk is non allergenic.
Avatar f tn I posted about this the other day... my son has a dairy and soy allergy and due to the fact that I am and choose to continue breastfeeding anyway, I have to follow a strict dairy/soy free diet. It's only been 4 days and I've dropped 5lbs already. So the plus side... I'll be losing this baby weight in no time but OMG!!!!! I want cookies!! Cake!! Ice cream!! Cinnamon rolls!! Anything I can't have... I'm craving!!!
7845638 tn?1395841467 t latch on but I wanted to breastfeed them so I pumped my first I lasted 6 weeks until it got to be too much for me and my second only 2 weeks but only because he has a severe milk allergy I plan on doing the same with this one I started pumping the same day they were born I pumped out the colostrum with my first my milk was in by 18 hours after birth and my second the milk didn't come in until 2 days after birth its just different for everyone for me exclusively pumping worked best
1900997 tn?1321659956 a couple of hours later, I get ferocious stomach pain and flatulence that smells of milk, quite often also diarrhoea. So I switched to lactose-free milk, but this has not brought about any improvement whatsoever. Skimmed milk is just as bad as full fat, so it can't be the fat content either.
