Avatar f tn HELLO I AM 70 YEARS OLD AND IN 2002 I HAD A KNEE JOINT RELACEMENT IN MY LEFT LEG AFTER 4 YEARS OF CONSTENT PAIN THE KNEE JOINT WAS REPLACED WITH ANOTHER KNEE JOINT(2006) WHICH HAS LEFT ME IN MORE PAIN THE PAIN IS MUCH WORSE NOW AND FEEL WORRIED INCASE THE KNEE JOINT IS ON IT'S WAY OUT ?
Avatar f tn No, as knee replacement is a surgery where external body is placed inside the arthritic joint so the most common side effect of a knee replacement is infection, and some times clots, not the same with knee manipulatiion. Take care!
Avatar f tn If these fail then you go for surgery. Joint replacement surgery may be required. Individuals with very painful OA joints may require surgery such as fragment removal, repositioning bones, or fusing bone to increase stability and reduce pain. Arthroscopic surgical intervention for osteoarthritis of the knee have been found to be no better than placebo at relieving symptoms. So discuss all the pros and cons with your surgeon and every case differs from the other. Take care!
Avatar f tn m only 46) and having some other health issues (lupus, fibromyalgia, asthma), he would strongly suggest going with a total knee FUSION as opposed to a total knee REPLACEMENT. He said that because I am relatively young (although I don't feel young most days) and have the autimmune problems, there is an increased chance that a knee replacement would not last very long for me and would have to be done at least one more time, if not several times.
Avatar n tn what is the average length of rehab therapy after total knee replacement? This discussion is related to On-going Pain after Knee replacement surgery.
Avatar n tn However, when I showed my right knee last month this year I was told that I need full knee replacement. The surgeon recommended Otisknee replacement procedure. Is it possible that my right knee can deteriorate in onr year to have full replacemnt as opposed to partial. What are the reports on Otisknee replacement procedure. What are the pros & cons of partial replacement versus full replacement.
Avatar f tn My main question is about knee replacement since I have been disgnosed with RA.My biggest concern is in your opinion is knee replacement necesssary?
Avatar f tn I had a total knee replacement on my left knee two months ago. Just within the last three weeks, I have been having terrible muscle spasms during the night. I wake up screaming in pain. My knee is very sore after these spasms. What can I do to make these spasms go away. I am starting to be afraid to go to sleep! Thank you very much.
Avatar m tn Injections like Synvisc act as a supplement to the normal joint fluid and help in joint lubrication during the joint motion. They are usually given to delay the joint replacement surgeries. However, it does not replace the joint with the "normal" joint fluid since it is absorbed and cleared from the joint within a week (hence you have to take it every week). I would not say that it is totally useless since there have been observed benefits of this injection in some patients.
Avatar n tn I had surgery 9-29-08 and had a Zimmer gender specific total knee replacement. Since then I have pain around the outer edge of my left foot and across the arch of my foot. Can you give me an answer as to why this has happened and what can I do for the pain?
Avatar m tn You need to run some basic tests for rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune diseases, diabetes and hypothyroidism as all can cause multiple joint pains. Also, an X-ray and MRI of the knee joint will be helpful. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn However, if your quality of life is poor and all other options have been exhausted. Knee replacement can be extremely effective. Whether, total knee, partial knee, or patellafemoral replacement is best can only be determined ny examining you and reviewing your xrays.
Avatar f tn Back in 1973 & 1974, at age 19, I had both kneecaps removed due to Chondromalacia Patella. I wasn't given replacement parts. Now as a 62 female, I find myself walking with a cane and my left knee is extremely painful. I consulted with 2 orthopedic MDs. The first one wanted to do joint replacement surgery. The second one said I am not a candidate for joint replacement surgery since I don't have kneecaps. He prescribed diclofenac potassium for the pain.
Avatar m tn The anatomy of knee or knee joint configuration would have changed after the knee fusion surgery to do any sort of surgery after that. Yes I think an orthopedic surgeon experienced in knee replacement after knee fusion could possibly with difficulty could have done it. Keep me informed if you have any queries. Bye.
Avatar f tn This would be a difficult question to answer without the relevant clinical details. A knee replacement is not preferred in young patients as the life of a knee replacement around 10-20 years (the newer devices last longer than the older ones). Though knee replacements are usually successful and help in regaining movements around the joint conservative management is preferred due to the risk associated with the replacement surgery and a possible re-replacement surgery.
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Like any surgery, knee surgery also has scar tissue which can remain for the rest of the life, but it's size might decrease after the surgery. As you mentioned, it is 18 months after surgery I don't think this scar would dissappear. Normally, the scar will be approximately six to eight inches long. It will be straight down the center of your knee unless you have previous scars, in which case they may use the prior scar. There will be some numbness around the scar.
Avatar n tn Why am I having numbness and pain in my foot after total knee replacement? It really hurts.....one physician is giving me Lyrica. Any info on this will be appreciated.
17560938 tn?1457846532 I'm a 41 year old female seven weeks of pre op had full knee and joint replacement I am fine during the day not even using crutches or walker and I'm fine until night time when I start to unwind for the night an then the sharp shooting pains star and don't let me rest at night and is impossible to get comfortable even with pain medication or ice and elevation is this common? Over the weeks of healing the pain is getting much worse.... does anyone have any suggestions or comments. ?
Avatar f tn Hi there! Well, without knowing the relevant clinical details or a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation; though usually a surgical correction is likely to be advised in the situation. Joint replacement/ bionic leg are not usually considered in mild-moderate cases, especially in young adults. Hope this information is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn I had hip replacement surgery three months ago. In the last month or so I have been troubled by insomnia. I wake up most nights after a couple of hours of sleep. I have no pain or discomfort. Several patients at the physical therapist who had hip or knee surgery had similar experiences. One woman who had knee surgery six months ago is still experiencing insomnia. Is there a connection between the surgery and insomnia and how can it be treated? I do not want to take any medications.
Avatar m tn I would not advice you joint replacement at 48 yrs unless you have severe knee pain and disability to walk, etc.
655727 tn?1283296048 It does not restore the same level of function that the person had before the damage to the knee joint began. The knee will not bend as far as it did before you developed knee problems, but the surgery will allow you to stand and walk for longer periods without pain. After surgery, you may be allowed to resume activities such as golfing, riding a bike, swimming, walking for exercise, dancing etc.
Avatar n tn My husband had a knee replacement in March '08. He has had surgery on several occasions prior to this one. About 6 weeks after his surgery he developed hives that were localized below his waist and down the sides of his trunk. In addition, his upper lip and uvula have been swollen on occasion. We already know there was no cement used during the replacement. He has been on prednisone twice, has taken 50 mg.
Avatar f tn swelling seem to be mainly on medial aspect of knee from quads/vastus medialis through to medial and anterior calf/shin. Significant swelling just above medial joint line to back of knee. I have a copy of my surgeons letter to gp and it says I have significant changes to patellofemoral joint, grade iv changes to the the trochlea & grade ii changes to the the patella. These areas were subjected to chondroplasty.
