Avatar n tn Hello, The exact cause of perioral dermatitis and/or periorificial dermatitis is not understood. It can be due to neglecting washing face with soap free face wash or by using topical steroid creams. Moisturizers, cream cleansers, make-up foundation and sunscreens may all provoke perioral dermatitis. Recently it has been suggested that perioral dermatitis may be related to proliferating bacteria and/or yeasts in the hair follicles. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Hello, Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but since you are allergic to it, it cannot be used. In unresponsive and granulomatous forms, oral isoterinoin may also be considered. Pimecrolimus cream can also be used. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist and discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms and pictures it looks like perioral dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis on the forehead. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp. under the nose or anywhere on face. My sincere advice is to consult a dermatologist and get it evaluated. Diagnosis has to be confirmed first.
Avatar n tn So I read a bit about perioral dermatitis, and call my dermathologist to ask her about that. She told me my problem actually IS perioral dermatitis, but Scheriderm should be fixing it. But even in the directions for use of the product says it HAS NOT to be used with perioral dermatitis. I'm desperate. I don't want to continue the treatment with corticoids, but I need a solution and my dermathologist doesn't want to prescribe any antibiotics for me. Should I change my dermathologist?
Avatar f tn Hello, I have been diagnosed with Perioral Dermatitis, I was put on Tetracycline for a month and I'm currently on day 4. I know it's going to take a while to heal but since I have stopped using everything possible on my face it has become all dry, flaky and tight? Is this normal, does this mean it's healing? Should I now just leave it be and let it keep doing whatever it is it's doing?
1415174 tn?1453243103 Hello Dr.Bhupinder Kaur, I forgot to add that the physician assistant said he thought I had perioral dermatitis but I read that perioral dermatitis doesn't usually itch. My rash is extremely itchy. I have dyshidrotic eczema on my legs and hands. Couldn't this be the same thing? It looks similar to me. Does Rosacea itch?
Avatar n tn Hi, I have a history of acne, but this rash on my face is different and is strictly around my nose and mouth. Is it Perioral dermatitis? or could it be something else? and what should I do to treat this condition?
Avatar f tn I was diagnost with Perioral Dermatitis a couple of months ago. My Dermatologist prescribed an oral antibiotic as well as a night and day time cream. I've followed her instructions although I noticed the condition to start to improve so I stopped applying the creams yet continued to take the antibiotic. Just the other day I noticed the tiny red bumps came back as well as the discomfort of itching and burning.
Avatar n tn Multiple trusted websites state that Fucidin H Cream should NOT be used on “Inflammatory rash around the mouth (perioral dermatitis)” and now I am very disappointed and discouraged that this will be a chronic problem I will not be able to get rid of, with doctors who seem to be unaware of cautions on the drugs they prescribe. Please advise me on your opinion and advice of how I should proceed with treating this problem.
Avatar n tn I have had this problem before and last time I had clear discharge from the inflammed skin and it resulted in a scar after couple days. I applied corticosteroids and took diphenhydramine and it got rid of the problem in a week. However, if its perioral dermatitis than I read its not good to apply hydrocortisone. so can any body please help me?? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I had stop using it and the irritation is even worse. I searched the cream and perioral dermatitis is listed as one of its side effects! So I've been applying a cream that gives me the same skin problem I already have!? Also I'm using Benzaderm 10% wash with aloe vera, Tazorac and taking solodyn (minocycline) for acne treatment. Do these products irritate perioral dermatits even more? and what do I do about steroid cream?
Avatar n tn Hello, Perioral dermatitis is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It is usually characterized by an uncomfortable burning sensation around the mouth. Itching is not a common symptom.Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. If the symptoms are not controlled by topical antibiotics, then oral antibiotics may be needed.
Avatar n tn My question is why would a dermatologist prescribe another topical steroid when this is the very drug that is linked to the cause of perioral dermatitis. Further, do I actually have perioral dermatitis, or could it be something else? The antibiotics I'm on are really causing a lot of heart ache and I'm wondering if I even need them, if this isn't perioral dermatitis?

Avatar f tn Hi These red itchy bumps which may present with scales may have perioral dermatitis, fungal infections and impetigo as differentials.
