Metoprolol xl

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol xl

toprol

Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn I've been reading where metoprolol is bad for vagal afibbers. A while back you addressed this issue but I can't find it. I believe you suggested an alternative medication - what was it and how does it differ from metoprolol? Those sources also blamed a sensitive vagal nerve for triggering many afib episodes. They hydration and a low potassium level could be the cause. This seems too simplistic. If the vagal nerve is to blame, is there medication to make it less sensitive? Thank you.
443862 tn?1238003039 Is anyone taking metoprolol? It's driving me nuts! I do have anxiety disorder. And of course knowing they gave me this to lower my heart rate makes me nervous. And with my anxiety disorder I am taking my blood pressure every hour. I know that doesn't help. But dealing with the metoprolol, it has dropped me to 88/55 at times, today 112/73, then 93/55 then 142/70. I get hot flashes, shakes, tingling arms, a general feeling of panic when I see my reading is low or I feel the shakes....
Avatar n tn My father-in-law is 76 years old and has been having fainting spells along with stomach upset and dizziness. His previous doctor had him on Nifedipin XL 60 mg and Metoprolol ER 25 mg. He takes the Nifedipin at night?? and the metoprolol in the morning. All his fainting spells occur at night. They hospitilized him for one week but found nothing wrong with him. Is it possible they didn't consider the drug interactions or the dosing schedule as responsible for the fainting?
Avatar f tn To anyone who has suffered serious side effects of Metoprolol Succinate ER (Generic form of Toprol XL), please take 5 minutes and fill out an FDA medwatch form. The web site is: https://www.accessdata.fda.
Avatar f tn My EP doctor is changing me from 100mg metoprolol xl to 120mg diltiazem for svt. I have been on metoprolol xl for at least 10 yrs and I am still having episodes of flip flops so we talked about changing medication to see if it helps. He said I could just stop taking the metoprolol and start on the new. Would I not have any withdrawl off the metoprolol xl? Does diltiazem help with anxiety also? Is diltiazem better for svt flip flops?
Avatar f tn I've been on toprol xl for about 6 mos now and have developed some serious abdominal pain, with bloating, weight gain, trouble sleeping, and some occasional numbing in my hands. Could all this be from the toprol? Should I wean off this medication? Are there worse side effects if I do stop the meds?
Avatar n tn Dear Janicec, Toprol XL is an extended release form of metoprolol which is a beta-blocker.Beta-blockers are used to treat high blood pressure, angina (chest pain), heart attacks, heart rhythm problems such as atrial fibrillation and more recently heart failure.
Avatar f tn Was OK on any high dose, but I have high blood pressure to begin with. I am on 100 mg Metoprolol, can’t feel it. Call them, tell them! And don't worry, they will find the right dose for you, sometimes it takes a while as I was reading others experiences. I am glad you went to the DR . Let us know, how all goes !
Avatar n tn Because my episodes began to increase in frequency some years ago, they tried me on several drugs (none of which I like or felt helped) and I eventually settled on 25mg per day of Toprol XL (time released Metoprolol), which is a pretty low dose and I have been taking that for over a decade. I'm not much of a drinker (just don't like the taste of it or the SVT that the alcohol sometimes brings on!
Business man2 is the drug METOPROLOL ER 100 MG the same as or a replacement for TOPROL XL 100mg?
Avatar n tn Otherwise, my Echo and Holtor tests were excellent. My Doctor prescribed taking 12.5mg of metoprolol a day, even though he acknowledges that there is only a moderate chance that it will address and improve the problem. Having heard some of the more extreme cases of the potential side-effects of metoprolol, I was wondering... a.) Am I likely to experience many side-effects at such a small dosage? (I'm assuming 12.5mg 1x a day is considered a low dose). b.
Avatar f tn HI I have been on toprol xl 50 mg once a day for the past 12 years, the past few months I have been having strange symptoms of lightheaded, cold hands/feet,anxiety, tired..
Avatar f tn I have some conduction issues with my heart and have recently started taking 12.5mg of Metoprolol twice a day, one in AM and one in PM. It's really been helping, and is just meant to keep my heart rate steady until I go and have an EP study in the next few months. My doctor told me it is fine to have alcohol while taking this medication. Would you agree? Has anyone here had alcohol while taking Metoprolol?
Avatar m tn I know that I also memtioned that metoprolol tartrate (not Toprol XL) is not intended as a once a day pill because of its short half life. You end up with a roller coaster of drug levels.
Avatar f tn I have been with the same manufacturer of metoprolol succinate for 2 years and had no problems and now they went out of business and the new manufacturer of the same medication isn't working for me!
Avatar m tn I did ask the Pharmacist about having the Metoprolol 50 mg XL but in the Canada they don't do 25 or 50 XL dose... the XL dose are 100 mg and 200 mg only... Well thanks for your answer ;-) Take care of you!!!
Avatar n tn Doctor also perscribed Metoprolol XL (25 mg. -- Toprol) as needed. That drug really helped a lot but did make me tired. After PVCs reduced I cut it down to half a day and today I'm trying to go without it. Doctor said PRN (as needed). She is supposed to be one of the best cardiologists in SF so I presume she knows her stuff.
Avatar n tn My doctor has prescribed me 25 mg Toprol XL for the PVC's (flutters) I get after I eat. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little leary. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know what the common side effects are?
443862 tn?1238003039 No, I have not suffered from any dizzy spells as a result of the Toprol XL/Metoprolol. It worked quickly and I saw results within a few days, and it worked great! My chest pains decreased in frequency and severity, as well as the racing heartbeat I would sometimes get. My heart rate stays in the normal range (in the 80's per minute as well). It helped to decrease a lot of my physical problems from my panic attacks, and so has also decreased my panic attacks as a whole.
Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol 100 mg/day. I feel good no side effects at all, never had. It was fine from the beginning. Before I was on Coreg . Same, it was fine. I do not think you have any side effects from medications at all. You do have anxiety. You should work on that. There are healthier ways to work on that instead of taking prescription drugs. It can harm you many ways on the long run.
19887518 tn?1486052247 I am so drowsy, tired and weak since starting Metoprolol 3 weeks ago. I take 12.5 mg twice a day with food for my afib. I wake up refreshed. Several hours later some days I feel totally fine other days drowsy. But everyday around 2:30 or 3 pm I crash hard. Very tired. After a 60 minute nap I'm still a bit drowsy but better. Now it's 11 pm and like usual I feel much better but still weaker than before the med. Is there any chance I'll get used to the drug and quit being so tired?
1464004 tn?1384139333 Has anyone ever heard of heavy feeling tired legs as a side effect of Metoprolol ? I'm on a relatively low dose of 25 mg BID if the tartrate.
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
214864 tn?1229718839 com report, consumers have experienced increased blood pressure, increased heart rate and ectopic beats, as well as side effects such as nausea, dizziness and headaches when switched from Toprol XL to Metoprolol Succinate ER. ConsumerLab.com noted that the Sandoz formulation of the product is different from Toprol XL and dissolves in a different manner.
Avatar m tn I took Toprol xl for a time - 25 mg. I could not take a pill all at once, because my bp would drop too low. The nurse finally told me to break the pill in half and take half in the morning and half at night. That worked a little better. I ended up eventually on Atenolol which I have taken for 6 years. I take it in divided doses, as my bp or hr goes up or down. If my hr and bp are too low, I delay a dose. But I never just skip it.
Avatar f tn I'm currently on 12.5mg of metoprolol succinate and 50mg sertraline and my doctor wants me to stop taking the beta blocker. He told me that just stopping it on 12.5 should be ok but I have concerns. I read that taking the two together can cause more levels of beta blocker to be in the system than normal due to how the liver processes both medications. Should I just stop it at 12.5 or should I taper down further to 6.25mg? Anyone else stop taking Toprol XL while on Zoloft?
Avatar m tn For the past 8 years I have been taking toprol xl 100 and then about 5 years ago when the generic metrolol xl came out i started taking it. For the past three years I have developed Joint pain in the balls of my feet, and swelling in the toes that limit joint movement and make my toes feel as though they are webbed. There is some tingling in the toes and fingers. Is there an alternative medicine i should be looking at.
Avatar n tn The beta blockers ! metoprolol -toprol all the same - I took toprol xl for about 6.5 yrs had adverse effects from it - its used to slow the heart rate and lower blood pressure.. I have palps - it helped but didnt really knock the b.p down enough.
