Metoprolol vs lisinopril

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol vs lisinopril

toprol

Avatar f tn I have a wonderful (and high profile) cardiologist in Boston (who performed the ablation). He put me on flecainide (worked up to 75mg/day) and 50mg/day metoprolol. It worked at first - not a blip. But then I started having frightening episodes of SVT, which brought me to the ER, and eventually hospitalization. He took me off the flecainide which seemed to be the cause of the SVT. I also have atrial flutter now.
Avatar m tn I was started on 3.125 mg 2x/d 4 months ago. also lisinopril and effient and lipitor. all due to an MI and stent in RCA. Dr took me off lisinopril due to dry cough about 6 weeks ago and upped coreg to 6.25 mg. cough resolved but I have been having early morning rapid heart beat (wakes me up) in recent weeks and my tinnitus has become much worse. My upper back pain which started while on drugs is also worse since the dosage went up.
612551 tn?1450025775 ( this thread: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Heart-Rhythm/Metoprolol-vs-Atenolol-for-Heart-Rate-Control/show/1914248?personal_page_id=173312 it has some of my experience with a change from Metoprolol to Atenolol. I'll not try to repeat it all here, bet it would come out different anyway : ( As for Grapefruit, it is the worse but not only juice that causes problems. I had read as "itdood" shares with us the problem is related to enzyme conflicts, the liver.
Avatar m tn They initially wanted to put me on Lisinopril, but I was on that previously and I had a terrible, nagging cough the entire time. I've read that ACE Inhibitors are preferable to ARBs, though, when it comes to CHF. Should I try another ACE, or would all of them be likely to cause a cough since the Lisinopril did? Or is the Cozaar good enough? (Some places even suggest taking an ACE along with an ARB...is that a good idea?) Blood Thinners: Should I be taking one? (And is low-dose aspirin safe?
Avatar n tn Dear friend, I am on toprol xl 25mg for pvc. Been on it for 1 yr and it has done wonders for me. However it took a little over a yr before my pvc were drastically diminished. It does have some effect on me as it causes a little sluggish feeling, however with my workout that feeling goes away for the day. I do have very vivid dreams since starting it. But well worth it. Not sure if the pvc would have gone away without the toprol but since i had borderline hbp i continued it.
193177 tn?1218694001 I am a type 2 diabetes/ 5-heart bypass/ Hypothyroid person and I take Metoprolol; Lisinopril; Isosorb Mono; Clopidogrel; Amlodipine; Simvastatin and Lantus my sugar is high are any of these the cause of it being high I have be watching what I eat no snacks.
179332 tn?1273250959 I am trying to wean off of 200 mg Metoprolol daily. I am down to 75, with tinnitus caused by this med. I cannot live with this tinnitus, would rather have a quality life, albeit shorter. I shall just have to risk having BP , nothing else I can do. My internist was a pharmacist, so he knows the meds, and my reactions. Would love to talk more about this.
Avatar f tn as of right now, i take chlonidine twice a day for control of my BP in my brain, i take metoprolol twice a day, lisinopril once a day and lipitor once a day. i eat more fruit and vegetables on a daily basis, i drink at least 3 20 oz. bottles of water daily, i cut out salt, pop, caffeine, cigarettes and alcohol pretty much altogether and i still excercise but i just don't over-do it. such as a brisk walk for about 3 miles a day, some stretching, jumping jacks, sit-ups.
Avatar m tn I've posted elsewhere about how my local doctor suggested metoprolol, 1/2 dose once a day (taken in the morning so it won't interfere with the clonazepam I take at bedtime). I took a beta blocker once before and it dropped my pulse and blood pressure so low that I just sat in a chair (feld dizzy and had no energy) and hoped I'd feel normal the next day. Beta blockers can also make heartburn worse (I take Nexium for that).
Avatar m tn Toprol (metoprolol), Tenormin (atenolol), Inderal (propranolol), Corgard (nadolol). Alternatives for patients intolerant to beta blockers (usually due to wheezing, coughing or asthma symptoms) include calcium channel blockers (verapamil), angiotensin receptor blocking agens (valsartan) or angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (lisinopril).
238668 tn?1232735930 Recent (1/4/99) visit to a family doctor (new) made my doctor nerves of my heart murmur and EKG results, followed by ECHO and visit to a cardiologist. Young cardiologist has put me on LISINOPRIL (ZESTRIL 5mg) and METOPROLOL (TOPROL XL 50MG) and a follow up visit in about a month. He wants me to have a MVR within a year or as soon as my family returns from India. Mean while he wants ECHO done every three months. TEE was performed to rule out vegetation in MV. Stress test was fine.
Avatar n tn Repair of the mitral valve vs. replacement with a bioprothesis or mechanical valve can only be determined in the operating room. If the damage is not repairable then it is replaced. The bioprothesis valve is from either a pig or cow and lasts about 10 years. The advantage is that long-term anticoagulation is not required. The disadvantage is that it will need replaced. The mechanical valve (usually a St. Jude's) lasts for a lifetime but requires anticoagulation with coumadin.

Avatar n tn Keep an eye on what upsets you or look up on line about food combining and check PH foods vs acidic foods. Do some walking or light excercising and do not eat atleast 4-5 hours before bed. If your hungry have only a light protein snack. This even now is still a work in progress for me but I feel a lot better. I am trying to figure out whether getting this has caused what I suspect to be a succeptible area or pocket somewhere that may or may not heal with time?
1397648 tn?1288146526 I was truly not attempting to be negative or non-supportive of anyone's 'choice' -- I too believe it is a very very personal thing as to treatment options, meds vs. procedures, etc -- faith in doctors, second opinions, research.......... I am not judging anyone. I was just trying to make the point of 'listening' to your heart/body and react as needed.
