Avatar f tn 2) Are there any alternatives to regular blood pressure medication for treating SVT? I was taking metoprolol tartrate 25 mg twice daily, but this caused me to experience chest pressure. My cardiologist took me off of it and put me on a low dose of cardizem. I haven't experienced any ill effects so far from cardizem, but I would much rather find a natural treatment for SVT like acupuncture or natural medicines. I know that bearing down can help stop an episode of it...
12182312 tn?1427683956 Quick question And I still will ask my doctor about this, but wanted your opinion. I take Paxil for depression, well generic brand, and also metoprolol for fast palpitations. My paroxetine is 40mg, and metoprolol is 25mg. Are they safe to take together. Is one an upper, one a downer. I take Paxil in the morning, metoprolol before bed.
Avatar n tn I had a stress test and echocardiogram yesterday because I haven't been feeling good for months (nausea, dizziness, weakness, headache..) My doctor says my heart looks healthy other than having a fast heart rate (resting 112-stress test up to 188) and some extra beats here and there. He prescribed metoprolol to take only on an as needed basis since i don't need it every day. My question is, is it ok to take on an as needed basis?
Avatar n tn This isn't a blood pressure question but the medication is for high blood pressure so I thought you might could help me. I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
Avatar n tn but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. They both work in two different ways so they can not be interchanged at the same dose. I asked this question before toprol xl became a generic.
Avatar m tn precha here, thanks Tom for your reply, and yes the practicioner is going very slowly, and so far no problems except a massive head ache, which I dealt with by using Heal and Sooth caps, and total relief. Great to get your reply, and yes I tried your med, but it failed to give me the desired results. GOD BLESS.
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
Avatar f tn Ok so I've been on Metoprolol 50-100mg a day for about a year for benign tachycardia. It's overall worked good for me. But I've noticed a decline in sexual function, specifically, more difficulty keeping an erection during sex. I'm about to start Cialis, so hopefully that will help regardless, but my cardiologist mentioned that I might try Cardizem. He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects.
Avatar f tn A nurse practioner I have dealt with for years says I should go up to the 40 mg per endocrinologist. Also have to take metoprolol for palpitations and shaking and was nervous about that as I have some wheezing and throat congestion from time to time. Doctor's said it is fine. I just wanted to check that this may all be normal as far as adjusting to the Methimazole? Most of my life I have not had the need for any medications and only take supplements which my doctors approve of them.
Avatar n tn It is also recommended to dress warmly and avoid tobacco use. If it is necessary to discontinue metoprolol, its dosage should be reduced gradually over several weeks. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Sorry I can't help as my experience is limited to Toprol and Metoprolol. But, if I may ask you a question: do I read it correctly that the Cardizem does a much better job of lower you heart rate than does a beta blocker?
Avatar f tn You condition sounds too complicated for me to directly relate, but I can say Metoprolol has been in use for a long time by many people, it is safe. I do not mean from that it is "good" for your body in any sense other than reducing you heart symptoms...if it does that. I take high dose Metoprolol (200 mg) a day, and it does have some side effects, especially in high dose...you didn't say way dose you are taking.
443862 tn?1237999439 I have been taking metoprolol succinate for quite a time. at first I was taking 25 mg then after 5 months it was increased to 50 mg and a few weeks ago i was taking 75 mg. I don't why but this medicine is causing my airways to narrow because I don't have any pulmonary disease my lungs are totally find expect that a few months ago my pulmonologist thought I had COPD for my PFT but thankfully I don't...which make me think that it maybe cause of the Metropolol...
Avatar n tn I was looking for anyone else who suffers from Atrial ectopic tachycardia, or Sick Sinus Syndrome. What medicines are you using with good results and such? Does anyone else suffer from exercise intolerence? Suggestions are helpful too!
Avatar f tn I was prescribed the Metoprolol for Mitral Valve Prolapse. After taking the Metoprolol for many years my then Doctor told me to wean and how to. But it didn't work. There is nothing wrong with my heart. I have seen 2 Cardiologists over the past years. They said that I am fine, did all the tests, everything, nothing wrong. One doctor sugested that since I had taken the Metoprolol for so long, my body is used to it and reacts without it. So I decided myself to start weaning again.
Avatar n tn Had calcium score done a few months ago and score went from 20 (two years ago) to 19 (now). I seem to be doing a good job except for the HDL. I have been doing some research and have read that Metroprolol can lower HDL. My Cardiologist stated that I could switch from Metroprolol 25MG to Diltazem 120MG. (Resting Heart rate anywhere from 65-80) My only fear is that I have been told the Beta Blocker is better if you have Known heart disease. Can you give me your opinion.
Avatar f tn And depending on your present cardiac conditiopn, your doctor can advise you regarding pregnancy. Metoprolol use has not been advocated in pregnancy. The slow heart rate could be a side of metoprolol also. Please discuss this with your doctor he may change the dose or the medication. Regards.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone out there was using Metoprolol for their SVT on an as needed basis??? I have SVT and was started out on this drug and took it for a few months. With ok from my doctor I quit taking it. I hadn't had any episodes for about 6 months then I had one last night while I was sleeping. And it was a bad one, the kind where you think your gonna die. :( My doctor had told me that some people can take Metoprolol on an as needed basis. Thanks!
Avatar m tn I used and still use today Metoprolol as a cardiac rhythm stabilizer, for mild hypertension, and for heart attack survivability although there is now some doubt on that claim. For the earlier two though it works excellent with little to no side effects. But if you're anxious, if I were you, I'd want to try some of the SSRI drugs like Paxil or an SNRI like Venlafaxine (Effexor) both which worked great for my wife. Just a cautionary note on Effexor.
612551 tn?1450022175 Following are my observations on day two of substituting Atenolol 25 mg twice a day for Metoprolol 25 mg twice a day.. both are regular, for Metoprolol it is called Tartrate, I think the Atenolol comes in only one normally longer lasting form. Today in the early afternoon, following my third 25 mg dose of Atenolol at about 9 AM, I noticed some dizziness when I rose from a time sitting.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone. I am back with what I hope is simple question. A couple of weeks ago my doctor put me on Metoprolol for my PVC'S, elevated blood pressure because of fast heart rate. He also renewed my prescription for Xanax because I have severe anxiety. Has anyone taken these medications together and had any adverse reaction? I don't like to take pills at all but I am at the point I have to take something for this anxiety because I am barely functioning!
Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
