Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects hair loss

toprol

Avatar n tn I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.

Avatar n tn Hair loss is sometimes a side effect of taking beta blockers. Not sure if there's a way to stop that other than changing medications. You have normal sinus rhythm but it's fast? How fast? If it's consistently over 100, you should talk to your cardio about that. It's not normal or healthy. Your meds may need to be adjusted.
20748650 tn?1521032211 Medical professional here at a loss; Recently a family member of mine started TriNessa. History wise she is mildly hypotensive at baseline and takes metoprolol for rhythm control. Her resting bp is 90/50, resting heart rate 40-55, pvc burden 6%. This is with metoprolol, which has been successful at suppressing symptoms. Since starting trinessa however the following has been noted; A return of symptomatic PVC's and effective loss of burden control Metoprolol observed at home.
Avatar f tn Hello... I am not familiar with the side effects you mention "weight gain and hair loss" resulting from this Betablocker. Also, I would be interested to know where you read or heard that once you start taking this medication, you are on it for life. That isn't a true statement. It is true that when you are taking any form of Betablocker, it isn't something that can be stopped abruptly.
Avatar n tn All was finew/ the Metoprolol (no side effects) until late July when I started losing LOTS of hair (300-400 hairs per shampooing; "normal" shedding of 75-125 when not shampooing) and now my previously thick, shiny hair is thinning rapidly and dull. My eyelashes are also falling out, but not as rapidly as the hair on my head. (I also started having insomnia and leg cramps at night.)My MD is in the process of weaning me from the drug - 12.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol caused me hair loss....Bystolic has slowed it down somewhat....
Avatar f tn I take metoprolol and I have had hardly any side effects. It did make me alittle tired but I got use to it. Everybody is different when it comes to meds and side effects. For expample musikbox could not tolerate metoprolol and was switched to atenolol. For me it was the opposite. I could not function on atenolol and had to come off of it and I am having no problems with metoprolol.
Avatar n tn This poor woman (or man?) has been trying to get help for over a year with the problem of hair loss caused by the beta-blocker Metoprolol. Both replies from you to the posted queries have basically steered away from the possibility of Metoprolol being the cause of the hair loss. If you don't know about this side-effect, there are plenty of places online that you can find to confirm the link between this medication and hair falling out.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol is like the Tic-Tac of beta blockers. Lots of people take it with little aide effects. I take 75 milligrams per day, but have been on as high as 200 milligrams per day.The dose you have put yourself on is extremely small. Metoprolol's half life is approximately 5 hours. If you do the math, you will see there is very little left of the drug in your blood when you take your next dose.

Avatar n tn How long after taking gabapentin will the side effects last. I have hair loss. I stopped taking gabapentin about four or five months ago.
Avatar f tn I read what the publish side effect say, but it does say not all listed side effects are listed and itprovides a way to get the "complte list" I sure hope it doesn't include hair loss, I've lost enough hair already and just went on Flecainide today
1717715 tn?1318297295 He told me age has nothing to do with my hair loss and I am the same age as you. He did tell me that the Metoprolol DOES cause hair loss/thinning and that I should NOT discontinue the medication. He ordered test but his advise to me? Get a wig! (or a hair transplant) LOL!!
Avatar n tn I tried it for a day or two but I could not tolerate the side effects, so stopped. I have had to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment with my Dr. I will see him tomorrow. Meanwhile I now have an ever increasing heart rate and other symptoms mentioned in your website. How do I explain all this to my Dr?
Avatar m tn Some people experience few side effects and/or minimal side effects and others have either more side effects or more problematic side effects. In addition, many of the side effects are not constant. They tend to wax and wane, worse some days and minimal other days. Some side effects are more common than others and appear in varying degrees in many people taking the drugs. Hair loss is not uncommon according to the statistics. Hair loss among people taking Pegasys 180 mcg. for 48 weeks is 22%.
Avatar n tn I was leary too when I first started taking it, I read that one of the side effects was hair loss. What??!! But so far, I've still got all my hair. ;) I hope it it works well for you and your able to get some reliefe from the PVC's. Take care!
560402 tn?1235508894 I also kept my hair with Gemzar. But I do have to admit that it was a hard chemo for me. I was also on the 3 week on and 1 week off schedule. Keep in mind, as Gail said, chemo affects all of us differently. But after my treatments, I had about 2 hours before it started to hit me. I never experienced nausea or vomiting, but I felt really bad for about 3 days. The upside was that after I was on it for awhile, the side effects gradually started to ease up.
1286779 tn?1400012806 She went to a doctor yesterday about her hair and the doctor told her that it was because of this medication (Lydrica) But I have seen all side effects and none talk about hair lost. And my mother does not want to leave this medication because its the only one that works for her burning feet. Has anybody else expirence hair loss with Lydrica? She also takes Cymbalta 60mg,lyrica 75mg, Nexuim 40mg, and Tramabol 50mg. What do you all suggest she get tested for ?
941118 tn?1312281926 I have the same experience with Toprol and Metoprolol. I have gone from Toprol SR to zero in one step, I had not noticeable side effect on or off the medication. I was in NSR at the time, lapsed into AFib and was told to just stop the Toprol. Later I have used the generic up to 200 mg a day, that made me dizzy-prone due to very low blood pressure.
Avatar f tn He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects. Maybe the Cialis will be enough to override any sexual side effects from the Metoprolol so I won't have to switch, but still curious whether I should ditch it for the Cardizem to at least try it. I don't have high blood pressure, just tachycardia and the metoprolol really helps keep that in check. Should I just stay on metoprolol and try the cialis and see how it works or should I try the cardizem?
Avatar f tn Hi there! I'm a 44 year old woman, I've been taking Metroprolol 25 mg for about half a year now, I LOVE IT. It seems to keep everything calm, and the palps are much fewer. I don't think the drug alone keeps the palps calm for me, I also need to eat right and get the proper amount of sleep - which in my case means almost exactly 7 hours (sleeping longer guaranteees palps, as does relaxing all day instead of moving around, go figure).
Avatar m tn Although he told me it was a benign drug I have many side effects including fatigue and drowsiness, some dizzyness, and loss of sex drive and ED problems. The side effects were really hampering my ability to function throughout the day. About 3 weeks ago i tapered off metoprolol of which my last dose was 1 1/2 weeks ago. everything went fine but now am having issues with blood pressure spikes, chest pains. tachy-cardia spells and dizzyness. I really feel crummy.
Avatar n tn s merely the remnants of a cold. However, I am losing an insane amount of hair, above the average hair loss due to postpartum. Is this the combo of thyroid, meds and postpartum... I'm on tapazole 10mg daily dose. Is there something I can do? I had my blood work done on Friday and WBC was normal... does it fluctuate easily? I appreciate your help. Thanks.
