Metoprolol side effects depression

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects depression

toprol

Avatar m tn Metoprolol is like the Tic-Tac of beta blockers. Lots of people take it with little aide effects. I take 75 milligrams per day, but have been on as high as 200 milligrams per day.The dose you have put yourself on is extremely small. Metoprolol's half life is approximately 5 hours. If you do the math, you will see there is very little left of the drug in your blood when you take your next dose.
Avatar n tn I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
Avatar f tn The Psychiatrist I saw while I was on the Unit told me that severe depression, suicide ideation or attempt, and anxiety are side effects of this medication sometimes. Now that I'm home, and a bit more stable, I'm curious to see if anyone else out there has had to deal with this before? My cardiologist believes that I need to stay on a Beta Blocker, regardless of my severe reaction to Metoprolol.
20748650 tn?1521032211 I did see some information regarding an interaction between metoprolol and this product, but it pointed to an increase in metoprolol bioavailability, which theoretically shouldn't adversely impact the PVC burden? Anyone have any input or knowledge.. Even similar personal experiences with this?
1464004 tn?1384135733 Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible!
Avatar n tn I tried it for a day or two but I could not tolerate the side effects, so stopped. I have had to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment with my Dr. I will see him tomorrow. Meanwhile I now have an ever increasing heart rate and other symptoms mentioned in your website. How do I explain all this to my Dr?
Avatar f tn I would consider asking your doctor for another beta blocker, if you have those side effects from Metoprolol. A lot of beta blockers are available, and since you don't have the "typical" side effects that beta blockers in general may cause (low blood pressure, cold hands/feet, low heart rate, in some cases depression) - some of them are desired effects though, it may be that you have a reaction towards Metoprolol in general.
Avatar f tn I take metoprolol and I have had hardly any side effects. It did make me alittle tired but I got use to it. Everybody is different when it comes to meds and side effects. For expample musikbox could not tolerate metoprolol and was switched to atenolol. For me it was the opposite. I could not function on atenolol and had to come off of it and I am having no problems with metoprolol.
Avatar f tn He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects. Maybe the Cialis will be enough to override any sexual side effects from the Metoprolol so I won't have to switch, but still curious whether I should ditch it for the Cardizem to at least try it. I don't have high blood pressure, just tachycardia and the metoprolol really helps keep that in check. Should I just stay on metoprolol and try the cialis and see how it works or should I try the cardizem?
1464004 tn?1384135733 Hi folks! As many of you know I am on metoprolol tartrate 25 MGs b.i.d. for my PSVT. Even though I'm on the lowest dose I do get quite a bit of side effects as far as being overtired and dragging. My cardiologist now has started me on verapamil because my BP has been running high. I'm just afraid this is going to make me even more tired and dragging. Is anybody on this combo and if so how have the side effects been?
378273 tn?1262097621 Do you mean Metoprolol? This is the generic Toprol medication all are slow release, SL as far as I know. But, you may be talking about something else. I respond because I have been on both Toprol and Metoprolol for periods of time, the latest has been about a year now. My dose has been much higher, as high as 200 mg a day (2x100mg). While this has given me undesirable side effects I am not aware of one being depression. I've read the warnings, maybe I've overlooked.
Avatar n tn I am taking metoprolol tartrate 25mg twice and day because my heart rate was a little high when I saw my doctor 122 bpm. I was on 50mg twice a day, but my doc cut it due to side effects. I'm still suffering side effects, stiff arms, legs, and depression. I am also having some difficulty with my blood sugar, stays low. I feel like all I do is eat, when I asked my cardiologist he said to talk to my general practitioner.
Avatar f tn By the way. I am on 75mg per day of Metoprolol, and have been as high as 200mg with no side effects except sluggishness at the high dose. I'm fine at 75mg and have taken it for 10 years, Now that I reread your post, do you think you're having syncope as a result of the medication of because the of Vtach?
Avatar n tn m bias with citalopram because of all SSRI it is usually less likely to interact with other drugs and also has the least side effects profile, I feel like a new person since being on it.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone. I had sexual side effects from taking Metoprolol Tartrate. Are there any BP meds that I can take that do not cause these effects? I have heard of some that I could speak to my doctor about. But I wanted to ask here to see what advice I get from this forum. Thanks so much.
Avatar n tn Hair loss is sometimes a side effect of taking beta blockers. Not sure if there's a way to stop that other than changing medications. You have normal sinus rhythm but it's fast? How fast? If it's consistently over 100, you should talk to your cardio about that. It's not normal or healthy. Your meds may need to be adjusted.
Avatar m tn Has anyone developed Arthritis like side effects? I started taking Metoprolol (25 mg) in Feb of 2012 and suddenly in August my right hip began to develop severe pain. I did not relate this to being a side effect so had tests which showed "minor Arthritis and small tear in Labrum. The joint specialist started physical therapy and the hip finally got well enough to get off crutches and only use a cane by December.
Avatar m tn of BB, but I can say Toprol (Metoprolol), which is taken at a much higher does, usually 50 mg or higher, can produce the side effects you describe. Some of us adjust to them over time. I take Metoprolol at a 100 mg per day level, and may go higher. In the beginning it cause a too low BP and caused some dizziness when I stood up too quickly (or just didn't take time to stand up). These side effects have passed, my BP in now near normal.
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
909257 tn?1242668182 Pain medications have numerous side effects and those who do take pain meds on a regular basis do usually have some kind of depression due to the fact that they do have chronic pain but as far as the meds causing depression or bipolar no I do not believe so.
Avatar n tn Depression, diarrhea, dizziness, itching, rash, shortness of breath, slow heartbeat, tiredness. The chest pains are another issue and could be the result of restenosis of the previous treatment of angioplasty (balloon, stent?). The symptoms of chest pain, excessive sweating , etc. is consistent with ischemia (lack of blood flow) possibly with restenosis or other blockage. It would get an immediate checkup, if it is ischemia there can be permanent damage to the heart cells.
Avatar f tn This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. I was going to ask my doctor to change to Bystolic. Has anyone here had any success in changing over to Bystolic from Metoprolol ?
Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol 100 mg/day. I feel good no side effects at all, never had. It was fine from the beginning. Before I was on Coreg . Same, it was fine. I do not think you have any side effects from medications at all. You do have anxiety. You should work on that. There are healthier ways to work on that instead of taking prescription drugs. It can harm you many ways on the long run.
1464004 tn?1384135733 If your BP is on the low side, the effects you feel when standing or bending over are a common side effect from many beta blockers. How much Metoprolol per day are you taking? This drug will slow your heart down, and make it slower to respond to high level of respiration and physical output. I had to adjust my training regime once I began it. I warm-up longer than I used to, and start slowly.
