Metoprolol side effects depression

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects depression

Avatar m tn I did 2 days on 40 mg of Propranolol and I had the same side-effects than on the metoprolol... and I guess it's not side-effects but anxiety symptoms that I experience. Also when I return on the Propranolol for 2 days at a bigger dose, my blood pressure and pulse rate wasn't under control at all, heart rate was in the high 80 sit at rest and 150 and more just walking in the house...
Avatar f tn He also said anxiety/depression are NOT side effects of metoprolol. Has anyone else experience anxiety/depression while on metoprolol, especially on high doses? BTW I take metoprolol for IST.
Avatar f tn metoprolol side effects.... well, I guess they are real, but you learn to live with it. The side effects are easier to live with than a resting rate of 150 and then going up and up from there. When they were trying to control rate with JUST beta blockers... I took 200 of propranolol and 300 of metoprolol and occasional 100 of labetalol here and there. It helped but it worked a LOT better when other classes of drugs were added. Since the point is to slow you down, it generally SLOWS you down.
Avatar n tn I was on 50mg twice a day, but my doc cut it due to side effects. I'm still suffering side effects, stiff arms, legs, and depression. I am also having some difficulty with my blood sugar, stays low. I feel like all I do is eat, when I asked my cardiologist he said to talk to my general practitioner. I have lost my insurance and I am trying to get on a sliding fee scale so I can be seen.
Avatar m tn beta blocker aka toprol - same drug ! lots of side effects from this drug - more side effects happen if your on the Generic from ! You named all listed side effects for this drug - the stool issue is diffrent so could be a interaction with another drug your on ? it sounds as though your not tollerating this drug at all . and should be changed to something diffrent. with less side effects - you could be allergic to it ?
Avatar f tn how was it you stopped after five years? your cardio said you should stop? What happened next?
Avatar n tn Having heard some of the more extreme cases of the potential side-effects of metoprolol, I was wondering... a.) Am I likely to experience many side-effects at such a small dosage? (I'm assuming 12.5mg 1x a day is considered a low dose). b.) What is the likelihood that metoprolol can be helpful for the aforementioned symptoms, especially in such a low dose? c.) Is 12.5mg minor enough to be able to stop taking fairly easily? Could taking it actually make my conditions worse?
Avatar f tn The side effects of Prozac seem like they would enhance the side effects that I am having from metoprolol. Have any of you taken this combination or similar and ultimately did you feel it was worth it? I just know I can't continue on like I am feeling now.
Avatar f tn I take Metoprolol, 25mg 2x/day for AFib, which began in 09. Side-effect symptoms began within 2 or 3 days of starting the medication in 09 and I just couldn't stand how it made me feel. I've been on it regularly since mid-2010 when AFib events began happening within a week or so of each other; it got scarier and scarier. I refused to take it before that because it caused such severe side-effects....
Avatar n tn I'm bias with citalopram because of all SSRI it is usually less likely to interact with other drugs and also has the least side effects profile, I feel like a new person since being on it.
Avatar n tn After a double bypass in which one did not take, I have taken Toprol-XL 100mgs since 2001. I had never felt any side effects other than periodic bouts of diarrhea. Within the past week, I took my last Toprol pill on a Sunday between 4 to 6 AM. On Monday morning without my daily Toprol dose I walked my daily 3.6 miles in my usual 50 minutes and then at 8 AM went golfing. Around 11 AM my heartbeat became rapid and felt shallow.
Avatar f tn To anyone who has suffered serious side effects of Metoprolol Succinate ER (Generic form of Toprol XL), please take 5 minutes and fill out an FDA medwatch form. The web site is: https://www.accessdata.fda.
Avatar f tn In 2008, researchers in Spain found that oral solutions of magnesium and vitamin B6 decreased total tic scores in children with Tourette Syndrome. Researchers did not see any side effects and the treatment was deemed safe and effective. Further studies are needed.
612551 tn?1450025775 on the individual. In you place I'd take the same does and keep a watch on my heart rate and any new side effects. If I saw a large decrease in HR, for me that would be below 60 at rest, I'd try 1/2 dose and watch again. I believe taking every 12 hours is better than every 24, but I believe the total taken per 24 hours should be the same for either schedule.
Avatar f tn The Psychiatrist I saw while I was on the Unit told me that severe depression, suicide ideation or attempt, and anxiety are side effects of this medication sometimes. Now that I'm home, and a bit more stable, I'm curious to see if anyone else out there has had to deal with this before? My cardiologist believes that I need to stay on a Beta Blocker, regardless of my severe reaction to Metoprolol.
Avatar n tn Celexa and Effexor had been helping me, but my husband was concerned about side effects, and withdrawal and asked me to make a change. Now, I am experiencing tremendous difficulty sleeping, severe migraines, which had been under control prior to taking Wellbutrin SR, and dizziness.
Avatar f tn He's putting up my furosemide next time in so he can make sure I don't get bad side effects for which I would have to go straight back to see him. I looked at what the side effects are, and guess what, they are; ankle swelling, headache, tiredness, dizziness, stomach upset and others so that could explain why i'm getting all these things happening. I'll see how I go and write down my symptoms. Well thats my day and now I feel so drained so i'm gonna watch TV and chill.
Avatar n tn Known side effects of Coreg include fatigue, sleep disorders, dizzyness, and GI pains. (See for example SK Beecham site on Carvediolol). My wife uses Coreg and suffers from all these side effects. What are good counter measure drugs or non-drug therapies? What are most severve and cautionary drug interactions with Coreg? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I absolutely hate the side effects from the meds. I have vision disturbances, no appetite, no energy (although even though I was a gym rat, my energy level had been really bad the past year or so leading up to this), chest tightness, and increased anxiety. When I was on a higher level of metroprolol (before I switched to the name brand toprol) I had great bouts with depression and severe cloudy thoughts. Also right now it is hard for me to fall asleep before 4am no matter how exhausted I am.
Avatar f tn now I need something to help with the side effects of the beta blocker....horrible side effects and depression. Can anyone share their stories here that have had similar issues as I can't stop the beta blocker.
Avatar n tn In the meantime, if any of you are on the pill you might want to discuss possible side-effects with your GP.
Avatar n tn Meteprolol when taken with Bupropion have a interaction which increases the plasma concentrations of Metoprolol (amount of drug available in blood at a given time),but this is not a potential interactions which may not cause severe side effects. But as you mentioned, you have been under Metoprolol tart-25 mg, which suggests that it is a extended release formula whose duration of action is extended from 10 hr to 14 hr, in case of severe Hypertension.
378273 tn?1262101221 I rarely get PVC's when running, or at least I'm not aware of them. The side effects of the Metoprolol is tiredness and depression. Because I get depressed, I eat and so have gained about 8 lbs. Not good! I also have very weird dreams which means I don't feel rested in the mornings. Depression, Weight Gain and Weird Dreams are all common side effects according to the insert that came with the pills. I really would like to steop taking Metoprolol.
378273 tn?1262101221 I do get depressed (I probably shouldn't have read up on the possible side effects) and get tired very early in the evening. By 8 p.m. I'm ready to hit the sack. Very annoying-- The running hasn't been affected too much; I'm slower, but not by much. However, I'm constantly hungry. Munching all day long so have gained about 5 lbs (even though I'm exercising as much as ever) Is anyone else really hungry on beta blockers?
Avatar n tn Depression, diarrhea, dizziness, itching, rash, shortness of breath, slow heartbeat, tiredness. The chest pains are another issue and could be the result of restenosis of the previous treatment of angioplasty (balloon, stent?). The symptoms of chest pain, excessive sweating , etc. is consistent with ischemia (lack of blood flow) possibly with restenosis or other blockage. It would get an immediate checkup, if it is ischemia there can be permanent damage to the heart cells.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have frequent PVCs, a holter moniter registered 5000+ in one day (and that was a good day). On my last EKG, my Dr. said there was some question about a long QT interval, she said it was nothing to worry about, she didn't even mention it at the time (also, I have had yearly EKGs for about 3 years running, no mention of long QT interval). She also found my TSH levels were high. She put me on 40mg of Inderal, which helps the PVCs.
Avatar n tn Go to Google and type in the name of the meds she is taking and next to it "side effects" i.e. "metroprolol side effects" and it takes you instantly to the side effects of that medication.
Avatar f tn I would consider asking your doctor for another beta blocker, if you have those side effects from Metoprolol. A lot of beta blockers are available, and since you don't have the "typical" side effects that beta blockers in general may cause (low blood pressure, cold hands/feet, low heart rate, in some cases depression) - some of them are desired effects though, it may be that you have a reaction towards Metoprolol in general.
Avatar n tn Dear Andy, Thank you for your question. I tend to favor using beta-blockers for PVC's only as a last resort. Here is some general information about beta-blockers. As far as specific medication advice we recommend following the advice of your physician. Beta-blockers are used to treat high blood pressure, angina (chest pain), heart attacks, heart rhythm problems such as atrial fibrillation and more recently heart failure.
