Metoprolol pill

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol pill

Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn or at you last meal if it requires a meal and you take only once a day. I have taken as much as 200 mg of Metoprolol, 100 morning and 100 night. That really knocked me down. As I as after was a slower heart rate, which it did help. I am surprised if it causes a fast HR for you, may be something else. I now take 50 mg once a day, and I take it after my evening meal.
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
1347434 tn?1282595378 My cardiologist once quipt that with our lifestyle and diet today, that everyone should be on this along with a statin, and in fact there is already a combination pill available. Metoprolol comes to in two varieties; metoprolol tartrate, and metoprolol succinate, the later has a time release property. While this requires only one dose per day, it's cost is much higher than metoprolol tartrate, and some insurance companies place it in a higher tier co-pay.
Avatar f tn When I came off of the metoprolol for pregnancy I cut the pill in 1/2 took it like that for about a week or so, then cut it into 1/4 and took it like that for about a week or so. Then I stopped. I was/am very sensitive to drugs like metoprolol and stopping cold turkey, while it may seem fine in a doctor's text book, doesn't work for me in real life. Good luck!!
Avatar n tn I've been taking 25 mg of metoprolo a day (1/2 pill twice daily) just for some minor issues with PVCs. After several months I got hives and some food sensitivity that is evidently a side effect, so I decided to stop. My cardiologist seemed to think this is a low enough dose that I could just stop cold if I wanted to, but I thought I'd see what folks thought, if I should taper off.
Avatar f tn I've been taking 25mg of metoprolol for a little over a month for SVT. I thought I was going to have an ablation but at my last doctor appt my ekg was normal and doc and there was no need for an ablation. My SVT is caffeine induced and since I quit drinking caffeine I've had no palpatations. He reduced my medicine from 25mg to 12.5 and said if that worked I could eventually quit taking it. He also told me to drink plenty of fluids and walk 40 min. every day.
941118 tn?1312285526 Has anyone tried to get off of Metoprolol? I am reducing it per doctors orders and have lots of dizziness.
Avatar f tn My husband takes metoprolol tartrate. He only has one month of medication left and refuses to go back to the Dr. How can I wean him off of the drug so he doesn't have a heart attack or something?
19887518 tn?1486052247 Several days ago I cut the morning pill in half (6.25 mg) and kept the evening pill as prescribed at 12.5 mg. I am still fatigued but much less so, no full on crash in the afternoon but still not at full energy as before I started all of this. Also I've been logging my afib as I'm wearing the Zio patch and all my log entries are sight or very slight palpatations, so less striong than before. It could be that I'm getting used to the pill or the slightly reduced dosage.
Avatar m tn I know that I also memtioned that metoprolol tartrate (not Toprol XL) is not intended as a once a day pill because of its short half life. You end up with a roller coaster of drug levels.
Avatar m tn From Sept '14 - November'14 I took 12.5mg metoprolol once daily for tachycardia. During Dec. - half of January I broke the pill in half (6mg) daily. Last week (Jan 10th) I decided that I did not need metoprolol anymore. It started out okay, but the 5th and 6th day was getting way too rough for me cuz of bp and hr. My heart rate just standing was like 160bpm so I caved in and took 12.5mg. Can such a small dose really make me so dependant on it? What would be the best way for me to wean now?
Avatar n tn Metoprolol Succinate is NOT meant to be taken twice a day. It is a time release pill that should only be taken ONCE a day! Metoprolol Tartrate is taken typically twice a day. Same drug, same strength, but the Tartrate is not time release. You should contact your pharmacist and physician to get this sorted out. You're taking 50 mg. in the morning, and another 50 in the evening while the other 50mg is still working.
443862 tn?1238003039 I was given metoprolol to lower my heart rate while waiting for thyroid surgery. 25 mg 2x per day am & pm. I havve been onit since March and it has worked well except for recently. Twice per day early morning 5 am and early evening 3-5 pm my heart starts pounding again, rasing to aobut high 80s and low 90s until I take the next pill. Waht is happening? My doctor says nothing to worry about. But this is strange because it is new and very uncomfotalbe.
443862 tn?1238003039 In fact, my ocd and fear have increased since I started this medicine. ( I am also on Diovan and and a water pill). I have also heard the Metoprolol increases anxiety. I must say I haven't had many panic attacks but I do get these hot surges....any one else?
Avatar f tn I have been with the same manufacturer of metoprolol succinate for 2 years and had no problems and now they went out of business and the new manufacturer of the same medication isn't working for me!
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone out there was using Metoprolol for their SVT on an as needed basis??? I have SVT and was started out on this drug and took it for a few months. With ok from my doctor I quit taking it. I hadn't had any episodes for about 6 months then I had one last night while I was sleeping. And it was a bad one, the kind where you think your gonna die. :( My doctor had told me that some people can take Metoprolol on an as needed basis. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Otherwise, my Echo and Holtor tests were excellent. My Doctor prescribed taking 12.5mg of metoprolol a day, even though he acknowledges that there is only a moderate chance that it will address and improve the problem. Having heard some of the more extreme cases of the potential side-effects of metoprolol, I was wondering... a.) Am I likely to experience many side-effects at such a small dosage? (I'm assuming 12.5mg 1x a day is considered a low dose). b.
Avatar f tn I have tried other beta blockers including metoprolol. Metoprolol did not agree with me. It actually caused my heartbeat to race, or jump quickly, when I would get exerted. I went back to atenolol 25 mg.
Avatar n tn I am a 53 yo man diagnosed ~8 years ago with lone paroxysmal atrial flutter and afib. Long term history of endurance sports but nothing outrageous - running 20 miles a week since my teens. Episodes are generally less than an hour, but frequent - typically one every day or couple of days. Have been trying a "pill in a pocket" appproach - that is, I will take some metoprolol (50 mg tablet) if the tachycardia lasts more than 5 minutes.
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
Avatar n tn I was put on 25 mg Metoprolol (12.5mg 2x per day) on April 4, 2012 for a multicfocal atrial tachycardia event (lasted a day). Echocardiogram showed that my heart is in great shape. All was finew/ the Metoprolol (no side effects) until late July when I started losing LOTS of hair (300-400 hairs per shampooing; "normal" shedding of 75-125 when not shampooing) and now my previously thick, shiny hair is thinning rapidly and dull.
Avatar f tn I took my 1/2 pill of metoprolol 2 days ago and felt weird, which could have been just nervous bc I was scared of what it would do to my heart rate. My heart rate really hasn't been too high here lately so that's why I was concerned. That being said, the next day I didn't take any bc I was scared my sysmptoms were medicine related. I am struggling with a cold and called my pcp and she told me to take allergy medicine along with mucinex as needed.
10878355 tn?1425582771 I did an ECG report at my PCP clinic. She prescribed me Metoprolol but I am too scared to take it without having to see a cardiologist. She sent me a referral to a cardiologist and told me to take the pill while I am waiting for the appointment. Should I start taking the prescription or just wait and ask the cardiologist if I REALLY need to? Metoprolol's side effects scare the crap out of me and I heard it worsens the condition.
Avatar n tn prescribed a moderate does of metoprolol tartrate 50 mg twice per day, as time went by I needed less and less and told the doctor that my heart rate was in the 50's, he said I could take less if I felt bad....and I did, reduced to 25 mg 2x day. This pattern continued and eventually I was taking part of a 25 mg pill 2 times per day and most recently...just took it once per day or here and there....I have stopped taking it for about 8 days now. I began to see how my body would react without it.
443862 tn?1238003039 I had hyperactive thyroid which gave me a fast heart rate and they put me on 25 mg metoprolol 2x per day since Feb 2008. Had thyroid surgery this Nov 28th adn everyone assumed I can now go off the beta blocker and heart rate should go back to normal Did 2 weeks of only 25mg 1x per day Now 3 days ago doc says take the 25mg pill and cut it in half 12.5mg and take every monring. But my pulse is back up to the 80s and low 90s.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist put me on metoprolol to reduce heartrate and I've noticed it suppresses the rash greatly ... I can even e majorly broken out and when I take my meds it reverses it ( over a few hours) which seems very significant to me because I've tried everything over this year and this is the only thing that's had any effect at all. My cardiologist swears it cat be heart related though ...Any ideas or similar experience ?
876405 tn?1243511886 Here's the question- I am wondering if these PVC's and PAC's that I have been experiencing in the past 2 months have to do with suddenly stopping the metoprolol that I was on for my high blood pressure. I don't recall ever getting them before and now they occurring constantly..I was taking metoprolol 25 mg twice a day and then my dr discontinued it because I found out that I was pregnant. Now I am taking something else for the blood pressure that is safe to take in pregnancy.
Avatar f tn It would basically depend on the size of the pill. For example, cutting a 1.25mg pill in half and expecting 50% dosage from each would be very difficult indeed. For most pills you can purchase a pill cutter from your pharmacy.
Avatar f tn If you're taking half of a 25mg pill of Metoprolol Succinate (the time release version of Metoprolol), you are taking 12mg per day, which is a teeny, tiny dose. By contrast, I'm on150mg per day, and I don't feel a thing from it. Some people can be on a dose as high as 400mg. per day. So I would try and put your dose level in perspective. Could 12mg per day affect you's possible.
