Metoprolol overdose

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol overdose

toprol

Avatar n tn Toprol XL is the timed released version of Metoprolol. I use to take Toprol XL, until I discovered the far cheaper Metoprolo. The primary difference is that I must take it twice a day instead of only once. I've taken a double dose on many occasions to aid conversion of SVT episodes. You could feel a little woozy if you stand up quickly or perhaps bend over, but I doubt you'll notice much of a difference.
443862 tn?1238003039 Is anyone taking metoprolol? It's driving me nuts! I do have anxiety disorder. And of course knowing they gave me this to lower my heart rate makes me nervous. And with my anxiety disorder I am taking my blood pressure every hour. I know that doesn't help. But dealing wit the metoprolol, it has dropped me to 88/55 at times, today 112/73, then 93/55 then 142/70. I get hot flashes, shakes, tingling arms, a general feeling of panic when I see my reading is low or I feel the shakes....
Avatar m tn By inhibiting the same enzyme that metabolizes the Metroprolol, the juice raises the levels of the drug in your blood and it can cause an overdose. Your doctor should have known that. Page 6 talks about the interaction of medications with cranberry juice...... http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/drugInteractions/pubs/2004_Huang_Lesko_drug-food_interactions.
Avatar n tn I had a near-overdose on crystal meth in June which scared me. Afterward, I underwent many tests on my heart to make sure I had done no damage to it. I had numerous EKGs, chest x-rays, even an echocardiogram. They all came back normal. My question is, I have frequent almost daily palpitations. One doctor had me wear a 48-hour holter monitor, and I took a stress test. I am also now totally drug-free, and I avoid stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol completely. The palpitations just annoy me.
Avatar f tn When stopping my Metoprolol prior to my ablation, I received different instructions from my cardiologist and electrophysiologist. One told me back off slowly, while the other just said stop taking it. I went with easing back slowly. I think your plan is a good one. If you've been on Toprol XL for 12 years, I can't imagine it suddenly starting to bother you. If you've lost some weight recently, i guess it's possible that you might be overdosing.
Avatar m tn I know that Metoprolol overdose feeling; dragging, dull, heavy chest pain. At one point, I was up to 200mg. for a month, so I can relate to what you're feeling. I think you have to weigh the significant risks involving ablation and the location of your accessory pathway vs. drug therapy and living with your condition. How often do your events occur? Are you able to convert them yourself by some means; Valsalva, etc.? At 30 years old, time is on your side.
612551 tn?1450025775 The second list, for Atenolol has only two fields per line, so I can't even map a line-per to the Metoprolol. My Metoprolol is also regular (was) Tartarate (not sue I got the "T" word right). Sorry for the confusion on my part. It was your good input on longer half life and less brain affects of Atenolol that encouraged me to ask my Cardiologist to let me give the Atenolol a try.
Avatar n tn If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. US residents can call the US national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly. Symptoms of overdose may include unusually slow heartbeat, severe dizziness, slow or shallow breathing, weakness, or fainting. NOTES: Do not share this medication with others.
Avatar n tn Also while ToprolXL is convenient, it comes with a price. Metoprolol Tartrate needs to be taken twice a day but is literally pennies per dose. I take mine at 5am and 5pm so it's hard to forget; upon rising and at dinner.
Avatar n tn For the next 2 days I felt weak and had occasional PVCs. I was put on metoprolol and monitored around th clock. Two days after the episode (and after having been given potassium and mag. IVs), I agreed to have an echocardiogram done (mind you, all my ekgs had been normal). The echo showed a severe mitral valve regurgitation, EF of 50% and a "slight heart enlargement" according to the cardiologist. My cardiologist thinks it might be pregnancy related (PPCM).
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, the doctor at the ER (a second visit, while I was still reeling from the aforementioned Metoprolol overdose) was unresponsive to any of my concerns because he was busy trying to change his shift and didn't believe I needed to be in the emergency room. I have also had a barrage of tests to check for healthy veins and such, which have all came back normally.
Avatar n tn The drug of choice for the treatment of akathisia is also considered to be beta-blockers such as propranolol (Inderal) or metoprolol. The antihistamine cyproheptadine is found to be effective, though with shorter effect than beta blockers. Vitamin B6 is found to be effective for the treatment in some cases. Please discuss these treatment options with your doctor. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn I'm currently taking cardizem 120MG once a day and atenolol 25MG also once a day, is there any impact or somehow an overdose that you can consider if taking this both medication ? Since started taking this both medication (last week until now) I feel fine but what if the palpitation came back anytime now is it okay to pop in another 25MG of atenolol? I know i should ask my cardiologist but right now he's out of town I don't have anybody to get an advice.
Avatar f tn -) (which is debatable with or without PVC's) You've heard about the class action suit against Airborne right? Well, 1000's of people swear by that stuff, and I'll bet it stays on the shelf even though science doesn't PROVE that it helps at all. Well, most of what I do to avoid PVC's is probably the same placebo effect as this, but it works for me, so if it is a trick of my mind, I'm totally fine with that.
Avatar f tn It has a very long half life, so it can build up in your body over time causing an unknowing overdose. I'd be careful with this particular drug by observing the many other side effects it can cause. To the layman that I am, it seems to me that taking Digoxin for your particular heart arrhythmia is like using Malox to treat stomach ulcers when there are numerous and more effective front line medications to treat it.

Avatar f tn The doctor placed her on a beta blocker Metoprolol 25 mg. Plus, a medication to help her sleep at night...(it's nearly 3 every night before she is able to fall asleep). Monday she has another appt. with him for a heart montitor, to wear for a week. I'm sorry this seems like a novel....I'm just really worried right now...and fighting a sinus infection myself. Seems, like I'm reading the same thing over and over...before, I can even gather what I'm reading. Any advice...
Avatar f tn tell the doctor to switch your beta-blocker to metoprolol if you are not already on it.... it can be mixed with many meds and tiny side effects.. if any at all. the friendliest most harmless betablocker out of them all.
Avatar f tn Back when I was on Klonopin, I was also on Toprol (metoprolol) and didn't have any negative reactions. My cardiologist, pharmacist, and psych were not concerned. Of course I was not having any symptoms. Upon questioning my cardiologist about an interaction, he said theoretically the combination of the two could lower BP and HR too much. But my numbers were fine so he brushed it off. At the time I was on .5mg of klonopin a day and 25 mg of Toprol XL.

Avatar n tn I was treated with IV metoprolol for the high blood pressure and heartrate and given ativan to help keep me relaxed while we waited it out. I also had hyperreflexia as well. later that night it happened again not as severe and the ativan was repeated. By the next morning I was feeling better, however when I walked or do little activity my heartrate would increase to 120's. It remained like that for about a week. over the course of the next 3-4 weeks I still had that anxiousnedd in my chest.
Avatar f tn they are the only medication I have taken today so far..I believe now this must be a Vitamin D overdose side effect. It has never happened to me before today. Back to one a day on these tablets now. My body obviously has sufficient!
