Metoprolol liver

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol liver

Avatar f tn I'm currently on 12.5mg of metoprolol succinate and 50mg sertraline and my doctor wants me to stop taking the beta blocker. He told me that just stopping it on 12.5 should be ok but I have concerns. I read that taking the two together can cause more levels of beta blocker to be in the system than normal due to how the liver processes both medications. Should I just stop it at 12.5 or should I taper down further to 6.25mg? Anyone else stop taking Toprol XL while on Zoloft?
Avatar f tn But I am reading that CBD oil may increase the concentration of metoprolol succinate er in my body because they're metabolized by the same enzyme in the liver. I only take a small dose of metoprolol (37.5mg), and I'd of course start out with a low dose of CBD (5-10mg). Of course I will ask my doctor about this when I see him, but I need to start something now. I need to calm down. Does anyone take these two meds together without any issues?
612551 tn?1450025775 Jerry -- My Rx for Atenolol is 2 25 mg. tablets per day. I have gone from 1 to 1-1/2 per day to 2 tablets per day after my recent cardioversions. I am weaning off of it now and am back to about one tablet a day. I break the tablet in "large 1/4's" or just a bit less than half for each dose, every 8 hours. My EP said I could do it however it wanted. If I took an entire pill, my bp would plummet like a stone.
Avatar n tn Your liver enzyme is mildy elevated. It may be of no clinical significance. The Gastroenterologist may do a panel of tests for other causes such as all the hepatitis's. It is doubtful it is anything like that. It is possible that the Metoprolol is causing it, but unlikely. Could be from muscle damage. Follow through with everything your doctor orders but don't worry too much about it.
378273 tn?1262101221 Does anyone know if Warfarin can cause elevated liver enzymes. Blood tests showed mine were both 45, but the doctor is not concerned.
Avatar f tn Gilead: reported results of four phase 3 trials, Neutrino, Fission, Positron, and Fusion.
Avatar n tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Increased liver enzymes could be due to the medications. Metoprolol is known to cause hepatitis. But the elevation is only marginal, so the pros and cons need to be weighed before discontinuing a medication, discuss this with your doctor. But ensure to follow up with your doctor and monitor liver enzymes to see for changes. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn The pravastatin could be the reason, however which of his liver enzymes are elevated? Let us know and I may be able to help you out.
233616 tn?1312790796 In light of the fact that I am currently UND and have no virus, the reversal of fatty liver and less necrosis and less HCC all sounds very appealing, not to mention any reduction in IR would mean ones own Interferon response would be better post tx. and this alone may increase ones chances of an SVR even if begun at the end of an SOC regime. Perhaps now, more than any other time it could help insure one will recognize any lingering HCV and seek and destroy as designed.
Avatar m tn Hello, my liver has been perfect up until now. Back in June my alt was 16 and my ast was 30 Now On August 28th my alt is 14 and mt ast is 57. I had a colonoscophy on August 2nn and the DR said everything looked great including the liver. I did start taking Carvedilol (Beta Blockers). I was taking Metoprolol before I was was switched. Could this be why my ast levels are up? Everything else is perfect. Should I be worried?

Avatar n tn I am taking 11 pills a day to get my blood work within an acceptable range. The blood work results on last vist showed my liver count was 33 with the atl @ 77 - my ldl was 101. I am taking Lipitor 80 mg, metoprolol 100mg / twice, asprin 325 mg, lisinopril 20mg /twice, plavix 75mg, gemfibrozil 600mg / twice and just started taking Ranitidine 300mg/twice instead of the zantac I have been taking for heart burn. I'm six foot weighing about 230 lbs.
Avatar n tn the metoprolol is broken down in the liver, by an enzyme. But the Celexa inhibits that enzyme. So you can end up with too much of the metoprolol in your system. You can thereby have heart rate or blood pressure too low, or worse. it seems that reducing the metoprolol can be an option, then increasing it gradually as long as no symptoms occur.
Avatar f tn You are on a very low dose of the metoprolol and I would stop taking the extract and increase the dose of the metoprolol to three times per day. Metoprolol is an 8 hour drug and you may have breakthrough after the eight hours.
Avatar f tn the pulse rate elevation and high BP persisted. I have been taking beta blockers (first 12 mg Metoprolol then switched to 2.5 mg Bisoprolol due to poor control of BP with meto.) I had my thyroid levels checked, my thyroid checked by ultrasound, my kidneys checked, my gallbladder checked; I was also at a cardiologist. Everything checked out. My liver was also normal-sized in November.
Avatar f tn Last year my doctor told me she thinks I have fatty liver. I also take metoprolol for PVC's, which I just found out on line can damage your liver. Are these levels extremely high or what? Since I took the test a week ago, I am determined to eat much healthier and lose weight. What do you think about the metoprolol, and do you think that I should see a liver specialist immediately, or try to bring it down with diet for a while and see if that helps? I am otherwise very healthy.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is available in two forms, fast acting Metoprolol Tartrate (Lopressor), and the time release Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL). I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat.
Avatar n tn I say beta blockers because I have tried all of them, (Metoprolol, Atenolol, Bisoprolol) in an effort to reduce the side effects. I am currently on Atenolol taking 2 to 3 25mg per day to control my heart rate. Currently my blood pressure is around 130ish/60ish and pulse ranging from 80s to 100 depending on when the Atenolol begins to wear off. I feel like Hell all day along with chest pressure, general tireness and sometimes shakiness.
7510956 tn?1411675017 I have cirrhosis and have been on much higher doses of metoprolol for at least 10 years. It never bothered my liver enzymes. A hallmark of hepatitis C is fluctuating levels of AST and ALT. I would doubt it is your bp meds unless the elevations were very big after you started the drug.
390388 tn?1279639813 I switched to taking it in the AM along with my Triamterene/HCTZ, and Metoprolol instead of which it was dropping my HR into the low 60's. I'm just so wiped out feeling anymore. I hope my body adjust soon...... And realllllly hope they can also figure out why I'm in so much pain all the time. Mainly with my back; but, my stomach and all over body pains too. I feel like a real mess anymore. Sigh In case anyone has been reading my post.
1361367 tn?1280635689 4/16/10 Metoprolol 50mg 1 tab daily to 6/25/10 Metoprolol 25mg 1 tab daily for 1 wk then discontinue.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Metoprolol ER (25 mg) & Pravastatin (20mg) after a left-heart cath showed a 50% luminal loss in the distal part of the mid LAD (too small - 1 mm in size - for percutaneous intervention) and mild myocardial bridging in the second obtuse marginal branch of the left circumflex artery.
Avatar f tn Underlying cause can be excessive potassium intake, disturbed cellular uptake of potassium, or impaired renal excretion of potassium. My system is periodically tested to monitor renal excretion of potassium as well as liver functionality. An ACE inhibitor as well as a beta blocker can raise potassium to an abnormal level. Hyperkalemia has been reported in 1.3% (serum potassium greater than 6.0 mEq/mL) to 10% (greater than 5.3 mEq/mL) of patients.

Avatar f tn I have Cirrhosis of the liver rang Cirrhosis high but I have a galbatter and stomac infection iam on ciprofloxanc and metpcindazol can I crush them an put in applesauce
Avatar m tn com/drug-interactions/celexa-with-inderal-679-335-1956-1266.html As both Metoprolol Tartrate and Citaprolam are metabolized in the liver, the Citaprolam can increase the effects of the Metoprolol Tartrate causing "bradycardia, hypotension, and complete heart block following the addition of a SSRI, subsequently requiring discontinuation of one or both agents and/or institution of a permanent pacemaker." I have taken AD medications before including Effexor and Wellbutrin.
Avatar n tn My husband was on metoprolol for hypertension, and though it is considered OK for patients with liver disease, he has since been switched to nadolol (a non-selective beta-blocker) at the recommendation of his hepatologist because nadolol has the additional benefit of reducing portal hypertension.
