Avatar f tn Hi, and thanks for taking your time to answer folks questions. Last year at my physical my AST and ALT were 36 and 55. Had an ultrasound done that came back normal, so nothing further was pursued. Now it is a year and a half later and I had a new test done and AST is 131 and ALT is 145. All other liver bloodwork was normal. Freaking out because I have no medical insurance. Last year my doctor told me she thinks I have fatty liver.
Avatar m tn Hello, my liver has been perfect up until now. Back in June my alt was 16 and my ast was 30 Now On August 28th my alt is 14 and mt ast is 57. I had a colonoscophy on August 2nn and the DR said everything looked great including the liver. I did start taking Carvedilol (Beta Blockers). I was taking Metoprolol before I was was switched. Could this be why my ast levels are up? Everything else is perfect. Should I be worried?

Avatar n tn can I drink the juice of 1 grapefruit a day, if I am taking metoprolol and fosinopril for blood pressure? My blood pressure is completely controled.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is available in two forms, fast acting Metoprolol Tartrate (Lopressor), and the time release Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL). I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat.
378273 tn?1262097621 Does anyone know if Warfarin can cause elevated liver enzymes. Blood tests showed mine were both 45, but the doctor is not concerned.
Avatar n tn The pravastatin could be the reason, however which of his liver enzymes are elevated? Let us know and I may be able to help you out.
Avatar f tn I'm currently on 12.5mg of metoprolol succinate and 50mg sertraline and my doctor wants me to stop taking the beta blocker. He told me that just stopping it on 12.5 should be ok but I have concerns. I read that taking the two together can cause more levels of beta blocker to be in the system than normal due to how the liver processes both medications. Should I just stop it at 12.5 or should I taper down further to 6.25mg? Anyone else stop taking Toprol XL while on Zoloft?
7510956 tn?1411671417 I have cirrhosis and have been on much higher doses of metoprolol for at least 10 years. It never bothered my liver enzymes. A hallmark of hepatitis C is fluctuating levels of AST and ALT. I would doubt it is your bp meds unless the elevations were very big after you started the drug.
Avatar n tn My husband was on metoprolol for hypertension, and though it is considered OK for patients with liver disease, he has since been switched to nadolol (a non-selective beta-blocker) at the recommendation of his hepatologist because nadolol has the additional benefit of reducing portal hypertension.
Avatar f tn I have Cirrhosis of the liver rang Cirrhosis high but I have a galbatter and stomac infection iam on ciprofloxanc and metpcindazol can I crush them an put in applesauce
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar n tn I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
443862 tn?1237999439 I don't think the metoprolol, a beta blocker which; reduces the force and rate of the contraction of the heart, is causing this. The medicines that you take for hyperthyroidism might cause some exacerbation of the "hard heart beat" symptoms, especially if they are contraindicated with metoprolol, of course. Your doctor should be on top of this and I would let him know about it, especially if it just started, or is getting worse.
Avatar f tn Ok so I've been on Metoprolol 50-100mg a day for about a year for benign tachycardia. It's overall worked good for me. But I've noticed a decline in sexual function, specifically, more difficulty keeping an erection during sex. I'm about to start Cialis, so hopefully that will help regardless, but my cardiologist mentioned that I might try Cardizem. He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects.
Avatar f tn I take this medication as well and have been on it for 3 years. I have never experienced depression while on this medication. I believe your doctor is correct in that this is not a side effect of the medication. I have not heard of weight gain from this medication as well. Maybe this is a side effect of your depression? In other words, you are eating more because you are depressed.
9043033 tn?1401346653 Although I'm on Norvasc, Metoprolol, Clonodine my B/P is never in the normal range. Lately it's been running around 240/120 most all the time, especially in the evenings and nighttime. I had a stroke in 2006 and have been on Lasix 80mg. 3 times a day, Demedex 20mg. 2 times a day. My dr. doesn't give me a reason for having to be on such high doses of diuretics or reasons for my B/P being so high although I'm on all those B/P meds.
Avatar n tn I got the generic form but the cost is very high. Can he switch to metoprolol and take 50mg in the am and 50mg in the pm?
Avatar f tn He told me to wean off of the metoprolol for 5 days while taking the verapamil, and to cut down to 50mg on the metoprolol for the first day and go progressively down throughout the 5 days it takes for the verapamil to get in my system. I haven't started the verapamil yet. Partially because I have a hard time swallowing pills, partially because I am confused about the specifics of switching.
