Avatar n tn Hello, I had been taking half inderal la 80mg for the prevention of my severe migraine attacks for 3 weeks, after the second week i had developed side effects that consisted of nightmares, problems with sleeping and a rash and itching all over my body. I had immediately visited my doctor and she put me on another beta blocker - 50mg metropolol - in hope that the side effects would dissapear. It has been a week and the itching nor the rash have not subsided.
Avatar f tn Went to see a Medical Internist and was taken off Inderal LA immediately and put on Metoprolol. I was to take 1/2 of a 25 mg. tablet in the a.m. and again, at bedtime. Turned out that I was getting quite shakey and the Metoprolol was increased to (2) 25 mg. tablets daily. I have been on this increased dosage for a week now and still get the shakes. I do take Primidone for Epilepsy but my last seizure was in 1978 and I have had only (4) for verygood reasons. M.D.

Avatar n tn I have been dealing with a tachycardia (IST) for about 5 months now and keep looking for the right treatment. I've tried Inderal LA and Coreg, both of which made me feel sick and rundown. Now I'm trying Nadolol and we shall see how that works. I also have to take Florinef to increase my already low blood pressure. Does anyone out there have any stories on what meds they've tried for IST or SVT and what helped them the most, with the least side effects?
Avatar f tn About 15 yrs. ago, a Neurologist started me on Inderal LA. for essential tremors. Initially, I was on (2) 60 mg. capsules but was successful in taking myself down to one daily. Since I can no longer afford this medication, I went to a Medical Internist. I was given a prescription for Metoprolol (25 mg. tablet) and told to take 1/2 in the a.m. and the other 10-12 hrs. later. I was also told to discontinue taking the Inderal LA. After following the M.D.
Avatar n tn EKG taken by cardiologist as precation was normal. Cardiologist is having me drop Cardizem LA (180 mg) for Carvedilol (6.25mg 2x per day). Any reason to think this change could trigger arythmia or something else really kooky? I am told this is an excellent medication and typically very well tolerated. I tried Toprol XL before for several months. Did not tolerate it well, mainly due to severe nightmares. Once removed from the Toprol, nightmares stopped.
Avatar m tn of BB, but I can say Toprol (Metoprolol), which is taken at a much higher does, usually 50 mg or higher, can produce the side effects you describe. Some of us adjust to them over time. I take Metoprolol at a 100 mg per day level, and may go higher. In the beginning it cause a too low BP and caused some dizziness when I stood up too quickly (or just didn't take time to stand up). These side effects have passed, my BP in now near normal.
Avatar f tn I was recently told after a cardio echo that a mild-moderate LA enlargement. Left ventricular function was difficult to assess due to rapid ventriclar rate. No major valvuopathy. CT angio was negaive for pulmonary embolus. My medication was increased from 37.5mg to 75mg of metoprolol 2x and also a new medication Digoxin 0.25mg 1x. I was treated in emergency for three days with 100mg of metoprolol and 45mg. of Cardizem. I am also on nexium for about 7/8 years now could this pose a problem.
Avatar n tn I have been on Inderal LA for 20 years due to irregular heartbeats / mitral valve prolapse. Could this have damaged my lungs? How can I determine if I have asthma, I am afraid to try an inhaler for fear of palpitations and I hear not good to take an albuterol along with Inderal anyway. Is it normal for bronchitis to last this long, still coughing after 2 weeks? What are options for someone taking Inderal? At 44 do I stop exercising totally to try and stop this tickle in my chest?
612551 tn?1450025775 I have taken several medications over the years that have various claims that is supposed to mean, I believe, that the medication will be effective over an extended period of time, up to 24 hours. I am taking Metoprolol with an "ER" designation, which I think means Extended Release, I have taken Toprol and Rythmol with a "SR" designation, slow release Any comment on my understanding/belief? I also wonder if the term "release" is a misnomer.

Avatar f tn definition of irregularily shaped quadrants of the atrium. LA size is measured at the end-systole, when the LA chamber is at its greatest dimension and usually that is the only measurement on a report....that is consistant with all echo reports that I have read. Or the Simpson’s rule, similar to its application for LV measurements, which states that the volume of a geometric figure can be calculated from the sum of the volumes of smaller figures of similar shape. (not clear to me?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with IST/SVT and although I can find a medication to slow down my heartrate, it makes me feel like **** in other ways. I tried Propanolol LA, and it made my heart go down into the 50's. Being used to it being twice that rate, it scared me. So my doctor switched me to a small dose of Coreg. (I was also on Midodrine for a while to keep up my already low Blood Pressure, but it gave me headaches so I got switched to Florinef (to help retain salt?
1124887 tn?1313758491 ) I got my beta blocker changed to metoprolol (25 mg) and I feel my anxiety getting a bit stronger. But now my heart races a bit more in response to anxiety. Can propranolol actually contribute to higher blood pressure with stress? Are my assumptions correct that propranolol works better on anxiety due to the non-selective effect? Is my BP really normal? My heart is otherwise fine with normal chambers, wall dimensions and excellent contractility (EF 78%).

Avatar f tn I'm so tired of feeling sick all the time, I'm on metoprolol 25mg twice at day but my regular heartbeat is still between 120 and 130 bit per minute when I'm resting and feels like it skips a beat. Any advice??? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/270886'>Ablation vs. Medication</a>.
Avatar n tn I am 36 yr old female w/ history of hypertension, hypothyroid, DVT & PE (3 yrs ago). I am overweight and have been trying to lose, but so far have had little success. (still working on it!) Normal check up was 3 wk ago when MD found cause to order ECG which was abnormal. Ordered echo. Findings showed left side enlarged, MD had nurse phone to tell me & to continue Lisinopril & Metoprolol & lose weight w/ follow-up echo in 1 yr.
Avatar m tn 4mg (3 years) and just started 60 Mg of Propanol LA to try and control them but it does not seem to help. The increase in PVC's increases my anxiety level. Zoloft as well as xanax have also been suggested but I am really not willing to take anti anxiety meds at this time. I have had bouts of anxiety but I thought I was working through them (maybe not). Nuclear stress test was negative for any problems about 12 months ago. Any advice would be appreciated.
1703392 tn?1307454100 Toprol XL is metoprolol succinate the time release form of metoprolol succinate...Could try only 25mg a day of succinate? There are other BB that might work...BB don't really help with PVC's and in some cases increase them due to the lower heart rate. I am with you with the pills...once on them it is hard to get off. Considering the alternatives I can live with PVC's...they won't kill us even though at times it feels like it.

Avatar n tn Trade name (generic name) Acebutolol (Sectral) Atenolol (Tenormin) Metoprolol (Lopressor, Lopressor LA, Toprol XL) Nadolol (Corgard) Timolol (Blocadren) Beta blockers are also used to treat hypertension therefore reducing your BP. So, with use you will notice a drop in BP. I suffer from SVT (Afib) you can read my history under "trying to decide" I am an RN as well, sometimes I wish I weren't...because I know too much :) Sometimes a good thing and sometimes not so good.
Avatar f tn What great news about your genotype! Congratulations! Night sweats I have had for years, but somehow they have become better during the last month. Weird jumpy night things, no, I have not had that. Have not heard about it being a symptom of hep c. I was just wondering, if it could have anything to do with your back injury? I would definitely talk to my doctor about it.
Avatar n tn During periods when I had a lot of pvcs, I found Inderal LA 80 pretty effective. I also had 20mg tablets for breakthrough episodes. I don't have many pvcs now, but if they bother me I can take 20mg of Inderal as needed. I don't think it takes too long for BB's to work. Generally, I have some relief in less than 1/2 hour.
Avatar n tn I've been taking metoprolol for a little over a month for very brief ( seconds) of PSVT, inappropriate sinus tach and lots of PACs and a few PVCs (documented on event monitor). I started out with 25mg. twice a day.. then half of that. I was and am so exhausted i can't believe it. I'm not talking tired -- I'm talking about it being a tremendous effort to do anything. I also feel slightly breathless and i'm still having palps. I talked to my doctor finally and he said just take 1/4 a 50 mg.
