Metoprolol insomnia

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol insomnia

toprol

Avatar m tn Metoprolol is like the Tic-Tac of beta blockers. Lots of people take it with little aide effects. I take 75 milligrams per day, but have been on as high as 200 milligrams per day.The dose you have put yourself on is extremely small. Metoprolol's half life is approximately 5 hours. If you do the math, you will see there is very little left of the drug in your blood when you take your next dose.
Avatar n tn I was put on 25 mg Metoprolol (12.5mg 2x per day) on April 4, 2012 for a multicfocal atrial tachycardia event (lasted a day). Echocardiogram showed that my heart is in great shape. All was finew/ the Metoprolol (no side effects) until late July when I started losing LOTS of hair (300-400 hairs per shampooing; "normal" shedding of 75-125 when not shampooing) and now my previously thick, shiny hair is thinning rapidly and dull.
Avatar n tn Are there any beta blockers that don't cause insomnia? I've tried atenolol, pindolol, metoprolol, propanolol and haven't been able to sleep while on them, but my hr is always above 100 plus, so need something to control it. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I haven't checked, but I don't recall seeing insomnia listed as a side effect of the usual selective beta blockers, such as Metoprolol. I have taken that med for several years and at a high dose part of that time. I have had some dream problems (may not be related to the BB) but no insomnia.
Avatar m tn I've taken metoprolol for six days for high blood pressure, it made me feel lousy, groggy and gave me headaches. I want to stop it cold turkey, my doctor says its ok with such a small dose but I am a huge worrier and would like to know if anyone had any side effects when stopping even after taking it for such a short period of time??
612551 tn?1450025775 I have used Toprol, Metoprolol (longest, several years) and now Atenolol for the past year. I moved from Toprolol and Slow Release beta blockers to generic to lower cost. I was looking at Propranolol which I see is a "non-selective" beta blocker, and it may therefore have an unwanted sleep disturbance side-effect. Yet, it is prescribed, I read, to lower nightmare problems by lowering the higher heart rate and adrenalin associated with nightmares. ..
612551 tn?1450025775 Following are my observations on day two of substituting Atenolol 25 mg twice a day for Metoprolol 25 mg twice a day.. both are regular, for Metoprolol it is called Tartrate, I think the Atenolol comes in only one normally longer lasting form. Today in the early afternoon, following my third 25 mg dose of Atenolol at about 9 AM, I noticed some dizziness when I rose from a time sitting.
Avatar m tn The two medications Nifedical XL and Carvedilol do have listed side effects of nausea, heartburn, abdominal pain, and insomnia however; Metoprolol has these same listed side effects. The fact that you have acid reflux could be contributing to both your inability to eat/weight loss and your difficulty sleeping.
Avatar m tn I really need to know if the Atenolol have less CNS side-effects than the Metoprolol? Did the insomnia and vivid dreams will go away? And for the tiredness? Also, for the dose, did 37.5 mg of Atenolol is the same as 75 mg of Metoprolol? I did some research about the dose equivalency and what I find out is that 50 mg of Atenolol = 100 mg of Metoprolol... but I still wonder if it's true for everyone or not? My Cardilogist ask me to split my dose and take it every 12 hours...
443862 tn?1238003039 Well I'm on metoprolol to control the fast eharrate and somehow my TSH has risen all on it's own in the meantime so I am feelign a little better. Less anxiety attacks, less weight loss the hear more stable. But now I have insomnia. Never had sleep problems befor...any suggestion on what I can do? I am very anxious when I am feeling tired and this has started to cause me to have small anxiety attacks and heart rate going up again (even witht he beta blocker).
Avatar n tn Well if I was you I would ask back my Metoprolol. I was on Coreg but my doctor switched that to Metoprolol after 6 months or so, and I am glad he did. Near 6 plus years I am on Metoprolol and wont change it back to Coreg. Also aspirin is what I would never take. But that just my opinion.:) I do believe aspirin does more harm than good. Maybe if you would drop aspirin first and see how you feel? Good luck to you, hope you will find your answer soon. Let us know!
Avatar f tn The adverse effects of metoprolol are generally mild and temporary; they usually occur at the onset of therapy and diminish over time. Since you've been taking it for 6 months, it's unlikely that Toprol Xl is causing the symptoms you're describing. It's also not known to cause weight gain or bloating. It can cause tingling, but rarely causes insomnia. I would recommend discussing your symptoms with a physician.
Avatar f tn I was taking metoprolol and my bp was not controlled at all and it made me fell like a dead man - fatigued all the time. I hated it. I'm back on diltiazem now and doing well.
Avatar f tn No, I don't think so, didn’t he have insomnia before? It could be how badly he feels while lying down, not comfortable, maybe...or taking too much nap daytime. I had hard time to sleep at night the first 2 weeks while was in the hospital with heart failure...but home had no problem after that.
Avatar n tn 5 months ago, my doctor changed one of my high blood pressure medication from Atenolol (beta blocker) to Diltiazem (calcium channel blocker) since Atenolol caused insomnia. Ater the change, I do sleep much better. However, I have noticed that I have occasional minor coughing. Has anyone have similar experience with Diltiazem? Any side effects of Diltiazem that you experienced ? Thank.

Avatar f tn I manage my MVPS with B vitamins and an occasional Xanax for insomnia. I am a 55 yr. old female. I was given 100 mg. Demerol/5 mg. Versed for the procedure. They told me I would probably sleep for hours after the procedure, but I only slept for one hour, then got progressively jittery with increased palpitations and would tense up, relax, tense up, relax, all night, without a minute's sleep! Could this be an adverse reaction the the Demerol or Versed?

Avatar m tn I was prescribed Metoprolol Tartrate (50mg/2XD) last Monday due to HBP. When I went back to my doctor for a follow up on Friday, he also decided to put me on Xanax (PRN) and Celexa (10mg/1XD). I always research any medication I take, and have been reading that the Metoprolol Tartrate and the Citaprolam are a bad combination and can lead to extremely low blood pressure or even heart stoppage.

941118 tn?1312285526 I just started taking metoprolol 50mg/twice a day for SVT ( I am 6'2, 200lb male, hence the higer dose). I am not sure how different metoprolol is from toprol, but I am also noticing some very annoying (albeit less serious) side effects. The most obvious is insomnia/very odd dreams. It tends to keep me up at night. Otherwise, my HB has lowered by a modest 5-10 BPM.
Avatar m tn The cath revealed several small vessels nearly closed by my body had built bypasses. The only thing done was to double my metoprolol to 100 mg and to put me on isosorbide 30 mg. Since then I have occasional angina relieved by aspirin and nitrolinqual spray. My doctor was less than forthcoming about what to expect. Although I was not told so directly if feels like nothing can be done to help other than getting though small episodes until I have a large enough one to kill me.
Avatar m tn Side effects of Metoprol include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, depression, dreaming, memory loss, fever, impotence, lightheadedness, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cold extremities, sore throat, and shortness of breath or wheezing. Metoprolol can aggravate breathing difficulties in patients with asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema. The Baby asprin is low dose and should be well tolerated unless you have asthma .

Avatar n tn I never remember getting shortness of breathe, sweaty palms, migraines, insomnia, or fatigue. So other than the sore chest and infrequent PVCs my symptoms are rather minor but disconcerting because it's simply not normal! I went to my general health care doc, and obviously he told me to quit smoking , drink more water and lower my caffeine intake. I had blood work done and an EKG (while I had the chest pains) and everything came back fine.
Avatar f tn It takes getting used to. Insomnia and restless sleep was a problem. I took valerian and threanine and sleep pretty good. Tiredness was really bad at first, but got better. BP has not gone down low enough. I was at 175/100 at times. Now at 145-155/85-90. I need to do better with exercise and diet! Goodluck on Bystolic!
Avatar f tn It sounds like you had less problems with Metoprolol, maybe you should go back to it. My experience with Metoprolol is that I have adjusted to it over a period of months. I think it still causes some fatigue or more correctly makes it harder for me to engage in heavy physical work/exercise.
Avatar m tn As time went on, my palpitations got worse and I was having 3 panic attacks a day. In addition, I had significant weight loss of 15 pounds in less than a month, insomnia, heat intolerance, sweaty hands and feet, tremors, muscle wasting, muscle tightness/cramps, and shortness of breath. So I went back to my GP and she finally ran more thyroid tests. I had the following results showing an elevated T4 free (June 5th): T4 free 1.20 ng/dL (range 0.61 - 1.12 ng/dL) T3 free 2.73 pg/mL (range 1.
