Metoprolol hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol hair loss

Avatar f tn Hello, My doctor as put me on 25 mg metoprolol extened release daily for palpitations. I am reading on the web about weight gain and hair loss. Does hanyone has any experience with this medicine--good or bad? I am 38 years old otherwise healthy, active person and I eat right but am little nervous about starting the medicine as i have heard once you go on it, you have to take it forever. Someone please advise---share your experience with the medicine. Thank you.
1717715 tn?1318300895 I take Metoprolol and am experiencing sever hair loss, getting increasingly oily. I am female.
Avatar n tn I too have been experiencing the shock of increasing rapid hair loss and thinning hair after a few months on metoprolol. My Dr. says he never heard of the side effect. The information and warning sheet that is provided with my prescriptions by all pharmacies did not list a single side effect as they did with everyone of me other RX's. The entire info sheet was instead devoted to telling you not to stop taking the drug without a tapering off plan.
Avatar f tn // If you can't stop the medication, it suggests using minoxidil (Rogaine). I am pretty sure the oral drug (finasteride/Propecia) is only for men. It says drugs like metoprolol stress your body, so I would suspect that improving your diet, exercising as much as you are able (to improve circulation and control stress hormones) and even taking multivitamin and minerals could also be helpful.
1464004 tn?1384139333 Hi I'm taking this medicine for more than a year or may b nearly 2 years yes I have a lot of side effects one of them is hair loss My hairs were longer than my spinal cord and thick I have dizzy spells funny feelings inside chest tiredness continuesly low BP But what can we do? My skip beats scares me a lot so I ve to take this medication I'm on 2.
Avatar n tn I was on Metoprolol for 4.5 months, but noticed excessive hair loss about 3.5 months taking the drug. I was weaned off of it over a 2 week period (was only taking 12.5mg 2x per day - a lose dose) b/c of the hair loss, insomnia, nocturnalleg cramps, etc. My cardiologist did not want to say the the beta blocker was the cause of the hair loss... but then admitted that some women had experienced hair thinning. (I'll say!).
Avatar f tn I've taken as much as 200 mg, but only for short periods. Not hair loss then either. I think some side effects, like hair loss, are frequently temporary...hope that's your situation.
Avatar f tn It immediately regulated my heartbeat and worked very well for awhile - no weight gain or hair loss (my hair is thin so I would have noticed that!) We then cut it back a bit to .5 am and .25 pm because my holter showed my heart rate dropped to 40 while sleeping on a day when there was no a-fib event. The only thing I have noticed since starting this drug is that I now have the thumpity thumping related to indigestion, that I never had before.
Avatar m tn I am worried about when this hair loss will stop and Will I be able to get my hair back? will the lost hair regrow? what do you advise?
Avatar m tn Metoprolol caused me hair loss....Bystolic has slowed it down somewhat....
Avatar f tn Most adverse effects that people experience have been mild and transient. There have been rare reports of reversible alopecia (hair loss). If this were to occur, discontinuation of the drug is warranted. The good news is that the condition is reversible and not a permenant result. There are many who do complain of weight gain during betablocker therapy. Have you spoken to your Dr about your concerns?
Avatar n tn Great! One more thing to worry about. I had no idea beta blockers caused hair loss - I had enough of that after giving birth to my 2 children! I just started taking Metoprolol about 3 months ago and haven't noticed anything yet, but I'm on a pretty low dose - 25mg/day, I hope it stays this way. Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn For me it stopped my nightmares, I slept like a baby and kept my HR down nice for years. The only side effect I have ever questioned is hair loss. I also have muscle pains off and on but with me it was related to vitamin and mineral deficiencies and thyroid issues. The stools sound like they may be related to something else. I would talk to your doctor though soon and find out whether or not you should stay on the Lopressor/Metoprolol or change to something else.
221122 tn?1323014865 Do you take any type of Beta Blocker for your palps? Metoprolol (Toprol) made my hair fall out BIG TIME. The hair loss is starting to slow now, 2 months after discontinuing the beta blocker....
Avatar f tn I have noticed for the past so many months that after I take a shower and shampoo my hair that there is a lot more hair in the drain than there use to be. The only meds that I am on are Metoprolol....25 MG 2Xdaily. Even my eyelashes seem more sparce. I am so worried about this I am getting sick about it. I have an aneurysm near my aortic root which measures 4.2. It has not changed since my initial diagnosis.
Avatar n tn The thing is that it does not run in my family since both my older brothers and dad age 75 all have a full head of hair. Up until a few years ago my hair was also pretty full as well. My main concern is that the damage has already been done for my hair. If I stop the beta blocker and the T-therapy will may hair ever return to how it was or did I just kick start the male baldness pattern thing. I have a script for propecia and I also bought some Rogaine. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Avatar f tn So my doctor wanted wanted me on a beta blocker. I said your the boss until the side effect of hair loss started happening. I am sorry but it is devastating to me who wants to go bald because of some beta blocker. If I go off this will my hair stop falling out. I am afraid to wash my hair knowing it could come out. I really want to go off this drug.

Avatar n tn TSH 1.65, 25-OH Vitamin D 28.7, Iron 96, and Ferritin 67. (I had tried to follow a "modified" anti-goiteroid diet to see if I could lower the TSH - and it seems to have worked.) Anyhow, here it is June 2014 and I am still shedding hair like crazy. I'm now using Latisse for my lashes, brows, and side hair part... So, there's the history and here's my question. Despite normal numbers from my blood tests, could I have hypothyroidism?
Avatar n tn I have a lot of hair loss that just started gained some weight and now have yellow stools, this is kind of scary? does anyone have any suggestions? This doctor acted like it was no big deal.. Do I head for UCLA, should I get a pacemaker? I would really like to live! Can you HELP?
Avatar n tn ) has been trying to get help for over a year with the problem of hair loss caused by the beta-blocker Metoprolol. Both replies from you to the posted queries have basically steered away from the possibility of Metoprolol being the cause of the hair loss. If you don't know about this side-effect, there are plenty of places online that you can find to confirm the link between this medication and hair falling out.
Avatar n tn I seem to have developed a fast heart rate and high blood pressure though since the proceedure but I am controlling them with 360 mg of cardizem cd and 100 mg of metoprolol daily and I feel good. I've noticed that I'm also seeing hair loss since having the proceedure. Has anyone else experienced this kind of side effects after having cardiac ablation ?
Avatar f tn My Dr is switching me from toprol XL to Cardizem, which is great because i have hair loss, weight gain, my joints hurt all the time like i have rhumetoid arthritis. i evem went to the specialist. she was not helpful. had know idea why i was hurting. my question is why is he taking me off toprol without a withdrawl period. i start cardizem tonight. I'm a little affraid something bad will happen after reading not to stop it suddenly. Has anyone else done this?
Avatar f tn Yes, I'm having classic symptoms including a resting heart rate of 120 when not on Metoprolol (108 now - working to get it below 90), heart rate of 140 when I walk up one flight of stairs, shortness of breath, diarrhea, dripping sweats, hair loss, etc. This is why I am on meds. I've only been on meds for a week so I'm not sure how meds are affecting my levels as of yet. It just seems that many people take meds for a long time and then ultimately end up having RAI or a TT.
Avatar n tn said what turned hyper symptoms on can be shut off w/ATD’s, told me thyroid small, neck swollen slighty nothing 2 go batty over. Was on Metoprolol 4, 2 mos 25MG 2X day 2 tide me over for today’s appt. Started MMI 10 MG 1X day in beginning 6/07 with another endo previous 2day’s appt. Stopped MMI after 2 weeks due 2 itching, minor hair loss, was scared, wasn’t able 2 stop beta blocker same way.
