Avatar n tn Thanks guys, I don't have high blood pressure at all. i just have a fast heart rate. my blood pressure is usually around 102/85 and i've always had a normal or low reading. I have a ton of palps and skipped beats so he prescribed the beta blocker for days where it's bad i'm guessing just to help calm me down. I still however can not get rid of this headache every time i get up to walk around.
Avatar n tn This isn't a blood pressure question but the medication is for high blood pressure so I thought you might could help me. I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
443862 tn?1238003039 I curse the doctor that threw me on metoprolol, for high blood pressure. Without finding out the cause of the high blood pressure in the first place. Which turned out to be hyperthyroidism. Now that I am weaned off, newly so, by yet another doctor, I am terrified of the side effects I am experiencing that I was not warned about. And I am questioning the competence of the PA who told me to take the last 6 halves of metoprolol 25mg every other day and then quit taking them period.
Avatar f tn The only problem I had was initial dizziness when I stood from a seated position, due to low blood pressure. I also had problems with dreams (and still have at 50 mg, my current dose, I'm now also on a calcium channel blocker) and general fatigue. My body adjusted to the low BP and the dizziness subsided, but the fatigue remained. I have some fatigue that I associate with the BB and CCB, but some is due to my age, I'm sure, just reached the age of 71.
Avatar f tn Well the latest thing is that one of my docs wants me to take Metoprolol 100mg to help with an occasional fast heartrate. My blood pressure is normally very low, around 95/65 or so, sometimes a little higher if I'm working lol! My heartrate doesn't usually get that high but sometimes it will spike to the 130's, but not that often. I'm worried about taking this med b/c it seems like it could lower my bp even lower, and I've had episodes in the past where I've fainted due to low bp.
Avatar n tn 2) Do you suffer from high blood pressure (hypertension)? - In that case we need to start you on an alternate Blood Pressure lowering medication. 3) "A food sensitivity occurring months later" – has your physician confirmed that this is a side effect? This can have important implications on the treatment if the sensitivity and hives do not subside after stopping. Any way, you can stop the medication without tapering.
Avatar n tn My resting HR is bradycardic, but it works for me without light-headedness or need to reduce activity. Metoprolol doesn't seem to do much for my blood pressure, but it's always been in the normal range. Unfortunately, even on metoprolol, I have breakthroughs and I think the longer you take it, the less effective it gets. (I'm talking years, here--I've been on this type of medication for almost 30.) I was switched from atenolol, so the side effects vary by person.
941118 tn?1312285526 yes I have stopped using metoprolol and didn't experience any side effects -- blood pressure and heart rate not being side effects, they are direct and intended effects.
Avatar f tn long story short, I was admitted for the high heart rate, the Ativan bottomed my blood pressure everytime I stood and I too, slept for over 24hrs. I was put on Metoprolol succinate 12.5 once a day nad that has prevented my HR from geeting too high(now it only gets up to 140-150 if Im excited, before it was 200bpm). As far as surgery, I was told that I would have to stop it one day prior to the surgery.
Avatar f tn I was already on the Lopressor for my blood pressure when I developed SVTs. After reading up on the Amiodarone and having to be monitored while taking that drug, I decided I didn't want to take it anymore. I told my doctor about my decision, but stopped abruptly. The SVT symptoms had diminished at that time any way. My symptoms have never returned so far. If you are experiencing those symptoms again, I would ressume the metoprolol and discuss this with your doctor again.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol, a beta blocker, us used primarily to help reduce high blood pressure. It also slows your pulse rate. The heart has to work less hard and that is probably why we feel the pacs pvcs less. I do not think it is designed to stop them. I would not stop taking them without first talking to your doc.
Avatar f tn I'm trying to find out if it is safe for me to take Metoprolol 50mg (generic Lopressor 50mg tab) when just have allergic reaction (hives and severe itching) after taking Amlodipine Bestlate 5 mg generic Norvasc 5mg XC
Avatar n tn I had gone to the ER prior to the office visit because my blood pressure was elevated and my arm was burning. They said it wasn't my heart, but maybe a panic attack. I had gone to a cardiologist and had a stress test, ekg, etc. Everything came back normal, but he said I should take it to lower my heart rate and bp( it was just slightly elevated) until I lost some weight. I have been on it for 6 weeks twice a day.
Avatar f tn I also have a mild mitral valve prolapse. I was placed on metoprolol 25mg twice a day for this issue. I only take 25mg in the morning however, my cardiologist is aware and is fine with it. I have been contemplating pregnancy for a while now and wanted to try to wean myself off of the metoprolol so my cardiologist just said that the dose was so small I could just stop taking it. I also have very bad panic disorder.
Avatar m tn Blood vessels are narrowed most commonly due to atherosclerosis, a disease where the 'fatty' material in the blood gets deposited in the walls of the blood vessels. Blood pressure increases due to peripheral arterial narrowing and the heart has to pump against this increased resistance, so the pressure increases as people age. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn About 3 weeks ago i tapered off metoprolol of which my last dose was 1 1/2 weeks ago. everything went fine but now am having issues with blood pressure spikes, chest pains. tachy-cardia spells and dizzyness. I really feel crummy. My thinking was that I was having withdrawls from not taking metoprolol but why the symptoms after almost two weeks from taking it? I am tempted to go back on the drug to alleviate these symptoms as they are kind scary.
Avatar m tn that my blood pressure reading is 180 - 91 he added 5 ml lisinopril 1 daily I was directed to measure my blood pressure daily and keep a record for the scheduled appointment (8 Dec 10)

1198633 tn?1341185988 I was taking metoprolol er 25mg in the morning, 50mg over night for hbp and palpitations. After an ER visit for high heart rate and blood pressure I've been put on 50mg metoprolol tatrate during day and 50mg at night. Since the switch I've been having really bad diarrhea and gas problems and at night my hands ache and feel kind of stuff but not swollen. Is this common?
Avatar f tn Hello, I know Metoprolol is used for the heart and blood pressure. Is it discourged againist dialysis patients?

921925 tn?1243896273 Hello, I have been experiencing numbness for quite some time now and I would like to know if this could be a side effect of metoprolol. I was on coreg for my blood pressure, but I experienced low blood sugar while taking this drug. Doctors could not find the reason as to why my sugar was dropping and I realized it was happening after I took my medication. Anyway, I seem to have an intolerance to certain drugs. Could this numbness last for over a year if it was a side effect?
1577148 tn?1296159773 Now i also take paroxetine 20mg 1xday and metoprolol 50mg 2xday for it. I also take Diovan 300mg 1xday for high blood pressure. My resting heart rate at this time is 59, before weight loss it was 75 to 85. and 95 to 105 walking before weight loss.Thank You.
Avatar m tn That dose seem probably ridiculous for someone with high blood pressure, but for me it's what I need, taking more will just lower the blood pressure and lowering too much the blood pressure is as bad as having hign blood pressure...
Avatar n tn i've been off my blood pressure medication for two days and i feel like i'm having a panic attack and my vision is blurry on and off. could this be from not having my meds?
Avatar m tn Hi i woke up this morning with a bad headache my blood pressure read 170/101 pulse 68. I took two metoprolol tartrate 25 mg my blood pressure dropped to 140/83 pulse48 im resting in a recliner with my feet up . Wanted to know about my pulse rate is it too low.
Avatar n tn I have suffered from anxiety for many years. Last month I had a 24 hr, halter monitor and the dr. said I had episodes of a fast heart rate. She put me on metoprolol succ er .25 mg once a day. This has helped but I am very anxious about taking meds. When I started the meds I was working in school and didn't think much about it, but now that I am off for the summer, I am a little more anxious and have been having an occasional skipped beat when I am not busy. Could this be a result of anxiety?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with hypertension, and prescribed metoprolol succinate 100mg, once a day, which has successfully brought my blood pressure under control. However in 3 months I have had 3 gout attacks. Can the metoprolol cause the increased frequency? Thanks for your help!
