Metoprolol dosage range

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol dosage range

toprol

Avatar n tn my toes and lower legs are feeling numb. I tried metoprol and diovan hct and although by bp is in the normal range my heart rate is elevated unless I continue on the cardizem cd. Is there another medication that I can discuss with my cardiologist to replace the cardizem cd that will keep my heart rate in the normal range? I feel I've got to withdraw from the cardizem as the side effects seem to be progressing the longer I use the medication.
Avatar f tn A month ago, I was diagnosed as overmedicated at 175mcg after experiencing rapid pulse, high anxiety, panic, weight loss, etc. my dosage was lowered three weeks ago and I am still struggling with the same symptoms. How long will this take to change? I appreciate your feedback.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol comes in two formulations, Metoprolol Tartrate and Metoprolol Succinate. If you were prescribed the Tartrate variety, 50mg, once a day as you stated, then you were on a beta blocker roller coaster with a steep peak followed by a deep valley. Metoprolol has a rather short half life of approximately 6 hours, so in 24 hours, 50mg is nearly completely metabolized. This type should be taken twice a day.
Avatar f tn Hello all, I have recently been having what i believe to be "heart palpitations." I am a 22 year old female and have been on Metoprolol since i was 16 (for hypertension) the dosage was upped a year ago from 25 mg to 50 mg. The palps have become more frequent as of late and i have severe anxiety as well. Whenever i have a palp i tend to get really anxious about it and panic. it seems to be a vicious circle. is there a way that the medication has caused this problem?
Avatar m tn Never had a heart attack. The Cardio put me on Metoprolol ( 50mg); Altace 2.5 mg and baby aspirin in addition to Lipitor 20mg. Sep. 2009 he took me off the Metoprolol and increased the Altace to 10 mg. My Blood potassium level at the time was perfectly normal at 3.6; after the spike in the ace-inhibitor my potassium level has risen in two months to 5.6, which I believe is an unsafe level. My family doctor has now asked me to go back to the 2.5 mg dosage and get re-tested after two weeks.
Avatar m tn I am 38 year old.I was diagnosed of high BP(170/105mm/hg). I was prescrbed metoprolol 50mg and amlodipine 5mg. I have been taking this medine for a year. I have been regularly checking my BP ever since. It comes to 130/75mm/hg within a month. But Still I am taking the same dosage. My worry is : Is metoprolol and amlodipine safe to take?Since I am 38 only what would be its long term effects. That is taking the drug for over 30 years? Finally whether the dosage may be changed? Please help.
Avatar n tn I got the generic form but the cost is very high. Can he switch to metoprolol and take 50mg in the am and 50mg in the pm?
589617 tn?1218719782 I've been on Metoprolol for about the last month for SVT and atrial flutter. I started at 50 mg/day and dropped to 25 mg/day after the first 2 days. I had some nausea, sleepiness, etc and passed out on the second day - thats why my dosage was reduced. Prior to taking metoprolol I had SVT episodes about every 2-3 months and I've had one since I started on the metoprolol. So I can't say that its working in my case. I'm scheduled for a second opinion for an EP in a few weeks.
Avatar n tn My father is a Nurse Practitioner and says that my blood pressure was never at a level to merit Metoprolol in any dosage. He said I should have been given anti anxiety medicine for a short period of time until my situational stress was reduced. So now, what do I do? I want off the medication but now my doctors wants to send me to a kidney specialist and possibly put me on more drugs.Do you have any advise for me?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar m tn re probably not going to have any. When I came off of metoprolol, I had a lot of PVCs for a day or two; otherwise, I experienced nothing but my heart rate coming up a little. I was glad to get off of it.
Avatar m tn However, many of these problems occurred at the higher dosage (100mg/day); when at lower dosage (25/mg day) felt much better. Considering going back on Metoprolol since current Calcium Channel Blocker is causing similar problems and not really solving A-fib.
Avatar m tn From your test results your Free T4 was a bit lower than we normally suggest, which is middle of the range, at minimum. Your Free T3 is even lower in its range, which shows that your body is not converting T4 to T3 very well. Free T3 is the thyroid hormone that correlates best with symptoms. Many members say that symptom relief required Free T4 at the middle of its range, and Free T3 in the upper third of its range, or as necessary to relieve symptoms.
Avatar m tn Yes, Metoprolol Succinate is the timed release. It is also way more expensive than Metoprolol Tartrate. I switched long ago to the latter and saved a lot of money. A dose costs literally pennies. You have to remember to take it twice a day though. I take it at "5 and 5"; at rising, and at dinner, and it's easy to remember. Metoprolol has the same bradycardia effect as Atenolol, so that has to be watched.
Avatar f tn I recently had an exacerbation of svt requiring adenosine and an increase in my maintenance metoprolol dosage. I essentially lost a day of memory and have been forgetful and foggy headed. Just wondering if this is normal. I can't get any doctor I have seen to address this.
Avatar f tn We all need to find our optimal range and not just a normal range. Shoot for a lower TSH and a higher free t3 (will probably have to have t3 added in to get there) with a mid range freet4 and see how you feel? If your doctor will not check the freet3 level, then find one who will.
Avatar n tn It is also recommended to dress warmly and avoid tobacco use. If it is necessary to discontinue metoprolol, its dosage should be reduced gradually over several weeks. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn t want it to cause a long term effect, he put me on metoprolol to regulate it. Thats why mh dosage is so low... i was having worse fatigue when i took it twice a day and so he advised me to cut it to once a day. I've been monitoring my heartrate and blood pressure both very closely both before and after taking and keeping a log to turn in to him and it consistly stays normal even with taking it once a day so I don't think the dosage is my issue.
Avatar m tn Will blood pressure rise temporarily with a decrease in the regular dose of beta blocker medication. I have slightly reduced my Sotalol dosage because of side effects and have noticed my blood pressure is high today. Could this be the cause? Normally my blood pressure is not high. I take Sotalol for afib.
Avatar m tn We aren't doctors of course. That said my cardiologist said that Metoprolol doesn't work like that. You need to build up the dosage in your body for it to function properly. You're taking the time release version of Metoprolol, so the results of a dose are drawn out more so the the standard Metoprolol.
Avatar f tn My cardiologist wants to up my dosage of Metoprolol, but my normal BP is already 90s/60s and my resting HR is currently 58. He assures me that taking more won't have much impact on either and won't "bottom me out". I'd be moving from the tiny dose of 37.5 to a full tiny dose of 50. Lol Obviously I'm just worried that my numbers are already so low that going lower will make me symptomatic and miserable.
534785 tn?1329592208 I take 100mg of Flecainide Acetate twice daily for this and it seemed to work well until I began steadily increasing my Levothyroxine dosage from around 100mg to 175mg during the past 6 - 8 months.
Avatar f tn I experienced my first what i believe was a panic attack after I ate a cookie with marijuana. I had no idea what was happening to my body, I felt dizzy for a bit in the car then when I got out and walked a bit my heart started to race I started to breath fast and felt like I would pass out.
Avatar f tn I have been on metoprolol 25mg for two 1/2 years. Then my doctor put me on metoprolol er 50mg. I have been having shortness of breath and minor chest discomfort; i'm only 45 years old and i want off of this medication totally. Has anyone ever wean themselves off of this medication with no problems? If so, how did you do it? Any advise is helpful to me. Thank you.
