Metoprolol depression

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol depression

toprol

Avatar f tn I have found several websites mentioning depression as a side effect of metoprolol. I have only been on metoprolol for 3 months and have had a bad bout with depression. Something is just not right. I was fine before I started the drug and now cannot shake the moods and sadness. Everything in my life is going well, so by my estimation, the depression seems only to come from this medication. I am going to check with my doctor to see if there is another beta blocker for my condition. Star...
Avatar f tn m just curious to see if anyone else out there has experienced Depression/Anxiety as a side effect to Metoprolol? 7 weeks ago, I was put on Metoprolol ER, 50mg a day. As a child, I dealt with Anxiety and phobias on a pretty high level, and went through years of counseling. Over the past few years, I have had everything under control, and been doing beautifully, barely noticing any real issues from my past. I was put on the Metoprolol to help control some issues with my heart.
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
Avatar f tn Beta blockers differ in how much they affect different organs - for example, depression caused by Metoprolol may happen because the drug enters the brain. Atenolol, for example, does not. Magnesium does not reduce heart rate very much. It has so-called calcium channel blocker abilities, which may lower blood pressure and decrease heart rate in the setting of atrial fibrillation (through the effect on the AV node) and it may also have a calming effect (reducing anxiety).
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with PVC's 15 years ago and was put on Metoprolol 25 mg. I've now been diagnosed with depression and was prescribed Prozac 10 mg which I'm afraid to take now because of the drug interactions I've seen on the internet with these two drugs. Can I run into problems by combining these two drugs.
378273 tn?1262097621 Do you mean Metoprolol? This is the generic Toprol medication all are slow release, SL as far as I know. But, you may be talking about something else. I respond because I have been on both Toprol and Metoprolol for periods of time, the latest has been about a year now. My dose has been much higher, as high as 200 mg a day (2x100mg). While this has given me undesirable side effects I am not aware of one being depression. I've read the warnings, maybe I've overlooked.
Avatar n tn I am taking metoprolol tartrate 25mg twice and day because my heart rate was a little high when I saw my doctor 122 bpm. I was on 50mg twice a day, but my doc cut it due to side effects. I'm still suffering side effects, stiff arms, legs, and depression. I am also having some difficulty with my blood sugar, stays low. I feel like all I do is eat, when I asked my cardiologist he said to talk to my general practitioner.
Avatar n tn We went to see the doctor, the doctor asked my dad to stop taking METOPROLOL TARTRATE (BETALOC) which he has been taking for a long time. The doctor just said if my dad feels chest pain again, send him to the emergency room. What do you think the issue is? is it normal to become like this after the angioplasty? Why did the doctor ask my dad to stop taking the Metoprolol Tartrate?
Avatar m tn m having multiple episodes of panic attacks and anxiety. As well as well as some depression. I had another episode of SVT it completely freaked me out. I panicked and called 911. It only lasted maybe less than 8 minutes and I came out of it. I told the medics to take me to the hospital. My heart rate was staying at 130. This could have been anxiety. They gave me Ativan. Still staying between 120-130. They gave me metoprolol and that brought it down.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering with severe PVCs for years now every other beat was a PVC and extremely aware of them, not only was it terrifyingly frightening with the fear of death impending but it just put me in such a deep depression I couldn’t function normally and I’m a nurse. I tried every medication they gave me metoprolol, propranolol, atenolol, etc. until they finally hit on a new medication by Bystolic! I hit the jackpot, it was like night and day!
Avatar m tn Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol. So, I switched to Metoprolol and started off at its lowest dose: 25 mg extended release, which is obviously not enough, though I feel great in terms of strength and alertness and stamina, that were all seriously diminished when I was taking Propranolol.
10139253 tn?1426475380 I take 4 or 5 medicines, Zoloft Lithium Klonopin and Metoprolol and have been always tired..... i want to try and get off the Zoloft, been on it since 2005.... and 200mg since 2009...... i am scared though..... anyone got any tips, i was put on it for Panic Disorder not Depression although one causes the other.
Avatar f tn I take metoprolol and I have had hardly any side effects. It did make me alittle tired but I got use to it. Everybody is different when it comes to meds and side effects. For expample musikbox could not tolerate metoprolol and was switched to atenolol. For me it was the opposite. I could not function on atenolol and had to come off of it and I am having no problems with metoprolol.
10610562 tn?1411418414 So I told my doctor about the wonderful help the medication gave me, but the terrible effect on my breathing. I told her that I wanted to try Metoprolol, and she said that would be a good idea since it is a selective bb, focusing on the heart. I have been on the Metoprolol for a couple of months now and it just isn't working near as good as the Propranolol. My hands are shaky, my anxiety is not being reduced, and I am always extremely tired and fatigued.
Avatar f tn I'm currently on 12.5mg of metoprolol succinate and 50mg sertraline and my doctor wants me to stop taking the beta blocker. He told me that just stopping it on 12.5 should be ok but I have concerns. I read that taking the two together can cause more levels of beta blocker to be in the system than normal due to how the liver processes both medications. Should I just stop it at 12.5 or should I taper down further to 6.25mg? Anyone else stop taking Toprol XL while on Zoloft?
Avatar f tn I'm 33 years old and prescibed Metoprolol for my heart palpitations, which happens everytime I eat food. After all cardiac tests came back normal, she mentioned that it may be stress related. I'm now being prescribed 20 mg Celexa for aniexty. I only take 6.25 mg of Metoprolol, cutting it into quarters, but are scared to take the two in combination. There are so many warnings about not mixing them. My heart rate has slowed down with the Celexa, but I still get the pounding sensation.
Avatar f tn I know this. My doctor prescribed Lexapro to help with the depression / anxiety cause by the metoprolol beta blocker. Has anyone else taken Lexapro for drug induced depression and has it helped ? The beta blocker has caused severe depression and anxiety. I need something to help me to get out of this hole and depression that I"m in. Can anyone let me know if you've luck with Lexapro helping with drug induced depression. Its the lesser of two evils.
Avatar f tn It really ***** that I have it though but I have always had it even before I was pregnant. But since I got pregnant my depression came back and the anixty got worse. Thanks to hormones! Lol. Have you talked to your doctor about it?
Avatar f tn I have MVP, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, I am hypoglycemic, and have been having weird palpitations. Ive noticed my heart rate seems to be to fast at times for no reason. My doctor wants me to take Metoprolol ER 50mg on half pill at night before bed. I react badly to many drugs and I am scared to death to take it then lay down. I am currently taking Remeron. Anyone got advice for me?
Avatar f tn I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now.
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
