Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol breastfeeding

toprol

Avatar f tn Septal thickness of 22mm. I am taking Metoprolol - 25mg at 0800, 25mg at 1800 and 50mg at 2300 to control my rates and arrythymias. I wore a Holter monitor last week that showed 9 episodes of SVT and 2 of Vtach. I am due for cardiac ablation one month after my scheduled c-section. My BP with the Metoprolol is around 105/50 during the day and unknown while sleeping. I have the following concerns I was hoping could be addressed. 1. What are the odds I can carry to full term?
Avatar f tn I am 3 months postpartum and am breastfeeding my little guy with a plan to do so for probably 15 months total. Currently, I am on Metoprolol and PTU, but I am highly considering a total thryoidectomy so that he doesn't get the effects of PTU or BB and so that I don't have to deal with this for the rest of my life (including another possible pregnancy). I will not get RAI because of the radiation effects, but I'm wondering if I am making a rash decision?
Avatar f tn 00 am feeling like my heart is pounding (I just started metoprolol for this). I am trying to get into see an endocrinologist. My PCP ordered a thyroid uptake scan so I would have those results when I go to see endocrine but I would prefer to avoid that if possible. I have a couple of concerns. I am currently breastfeeding and I don't wish to stop at this time but I don't know how long after the scan before it would be safe to do so again (I can't get a straight answer).
Avatar f tn I am currently pregnant for the fourth time at 31 weeks gestation, with the HCM diagnosis at 7 weeks pregnant after MRIs, Echo's etc and two episodes of PSVT to 240bpm. Septal thickness of 22mm.
Avatar n tn When beta blockers have been used in pregnancy, metoprolol and propranolol have been used more often than atenolol. These beta blockers have been used successfully during pregnancy, though your child should be monitored closely around the time of delivery. The beta blockers can have adverse affects on the fetus in terms of development in some animal studies. Pindolol and acebutalol are considered by the FDA to be even safer, but this is all on the basis of animal studies.
Avatar f tn Mine seem to get worse when I have some hormonal changes like right before my period, during pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Also had them bad when I was on birth control. Right now the culprit is my cycle about to start I'm assuming since none of the others apply. But I have them randomly as well, just not as frequent as they are right now. I had twins 6 months ago and during my pregnancy I had PAC's and lots of runs of SVT. I was in the hospital a lot.
171867 tn?1271047748 I saw a cardiologist that same day in the hospital and he put me on a very small dose of metoprolol 25mg twice a day. Generally my symptoms are in the morning so I just take on 25mg tablet in the morning and don't even bother with the evening dose unless I have symptoms. My problem is now that I wan't to get pregnant with my first baby and my concern is that Metoprolol is still classified as a category C drug and my OB says I have to come off of it.
Avatar n tn I see that people posted here originally, but they didn't come back to update how their pregnancies went. UPDATES, anyone?? And did people work all through their pregnancies? PS. I am on 25 mg of metoprolol - hope it's harmless.
584903 tn?1233834986 Yes Dave, I agree. I have always been anxious throughout my life even at a very young age, but until recently (the past 3 or 4 years) I've noticed a growing sensation of fear of dying. I don't know if it has arrived because of my guilt, and 'is a higher power to judge me'? I experience overwhelming sensations that send me into a irrational frenzy of 'what if' types of scenarios and deranged thoughts. The irrational thoughts compile into a heaps of intellectual innuendos.
Avatar n tn I also wore an event and Holter monitor that documented alot of PACs. I cannot deal with these. I take 25 mg of metoprolol (Lopressor) b.i.d. and 75 mg of Zoloft. It does not seem to be helping. I have some Xanax that I take occasionally, but it only numbs things. Does this mean I am getting an acute heart problem? Every doctor and my cardiologist says no, but honestly, if they don't quit I don't see my quality of life being anything but horrible. It makes me angry and depressed.
Avatar n tn My PVCs did flare up during pregnancy, especially in my 3rd trimester and I had a short run of PSVT which I went to hospital for but everything turned out ok. The good news for me was that breastfeeding totally eliminated my pvcs (so I breastfed for a year). Maybe because I was not ovulating as much when I breastfed and therefore did not have the usual hormone cycling. whatever the reason, it was heaven.
Avatar n tn Interestingly enough though I becmae pregnant at these symptoms stopped , they got better and better the more the pregancy carried on and while I was breastfeeding I never ever had any of them, in fact my heart rate dropped to a low healthy range. I truly believe it is hormonal most probably a so called progesterone deficiancy, as from the moment I stopped breast feeding the symptoms came back.
