Metoprolol and wheezing

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and wheezing

toprol

Avatar f tn About a month ago I was diagnosed with runs of SVT and PVCs. I was placed on Metoprolol 25mgs a day and I feel like a new person. I am using a generic made by Caraco. I am happy to say that I feel better than I have felt in years. I had the SVT and PVCs for years but none of my other cardiologists thought they were frequent enough to treat. Is that because they were males? I went to a female cardiologist and finally I am SVT free.
Avatar m tn Side effects of Metoprol include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, depression, dreaming, memory loss, fever, impotence, lightheadedness, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cold extremities, sore throat, and shortness of breath or wheezing. Metoprolol can aggravate breathing difficulties in patients with asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema. The Baby asprin is low dose and should be well tolerated unless you have asthma .
790137 tn?1318068025 For the past 4 months I have had trouble with laying flat and forced to sit up cause of chest tightening. I also have been wheezing at times with the tightening. First we (dr.& I) thought it was my COPD, but my lungs sound fine and I wheeze at the oddest times, like when I am doing nothing or just walking to the mailbox. Yesterday I felt odd with shortness of breath while I sat up in bed. What can this be? The doctor said it might be heart trouble and not my COPD.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am 26 and have taken lisinopril (10mg) and metoprolol (25mg 2x per day) for several years to control high blood pressure. I occasionally smoke tobacco from a hookah. For the last two years or so I have noticed that after I do so my entire rib cage feels very tight, swollen and achy. Then for a few days when I breath deeply or move around I sometimes get pains between ribs (it does not feel like lungs... more like between lungs and ribs or between ribs).
687079 tn?1230952212 However, the original blood test I had about 5-6 years ago related to a bout of really bad nocturnal palpitations and wheezing. They checked out my heart which was fine and concluded that I may have nocturnal asthma. Luckily, they recommended 6 monthly blood tests, but didnt tell me what for. 5 years later I joined a new doctor who took over my testing and immediately diagnosed compensated hypo.

Avatar n tn Hello, I have frequent PVCs, a holter moniter registered 5000+ in one day (and that was a good day). On my last EKG, my Dr. said there was some question about a long QT interval, she said it was nothing to worry about, she didn't even mention it at the time (also, I have had yearly EKGs for about 3 years running, no mention of long QT interval). She also found my TSH levels were high. She put me on 40mg of Inderal, which helps the PVCs.

Avatar f tn I am a 56 year old woman and was not on any preventative asthma meds at the time of catching the cold and development of the sinus infection. I am on Plaquenil 400mg Metoprolol Tartrate 50mg BID, Proventil HFA 2puffs every 4 hours, Flovent Diskus 250mcg (started one week ago), Nasonex, Augmentin 875 BID. I have had no problems with my cardio selective Beta Blocker prior to catching this cold.
Avatar n tn e. atenolol) and calcium channel blockers (i.e. cardizem) can interact with each other and cause a slow heart rate. What does your heart rate usually run? What type of palpitations do you have and do you have any symptoms from them? Here is some additional information about beta-blockers: Both betaxolol (brand name - Kerlone) and carvedilol (brand name -Coreg) belong to a class of medications called beta-blockers.

Avatar m tn I'm currently on Sotalol because my primary problem is Vtach and Amiodarone is indicated because it controls both Afib and Vfib. I too have had problems with chronic bronchitis and occassional wheezing but I'm more concerned about the great number of other side effects! There is a current study on something called ATI-2042 but it is only in early trials. It metabolizes faster in your body preventing some of the toxicity problems associated with amiodarone.
Avatar n tn says I could try a beta blocker for my pvc's. I have tried one a long time ago,(1983) and didn't like it because it made me feel sluggish. Could you comment on a beta blocker that you think is ok, and maybe has few side effects? If there is such a thing. Also ,I just started taking one each, potassium and magnesium pill a day, on the suggestion of this forum. Could be too early to tell, but it seems to be helping. Is this phsyco-symatic on my part or is there something to this as well? Thanks.
Avatar n tn However, if you habitually engage in spring cleaning in March, you might well be “stirring-up” indoor allergens such as the house dust mite and animal dander. The Toprol® (metoprolol) is a beta-blocker, beta-1 selective and thus less likely that non-selective beta-blockers to worsen asthma and/or cause wheezing. But, still it does for some people, but definitely not on a seasonal basis.

Avatar n tn You have a history of asthma and describe experiencing increased shortness of breath after starting metoprolol. Metoprolol can cause wheezing in people with asthma. What you describe sounds like bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the airways within the lung) induced by metoprolol. It is also possible that the NSVT could be playing a part in your symptoms. I would recommend discussing with your cardiologist that you have asthma and have developed shortness of breath since starting metoprolol.
Avatar n tn As always I thank you for your time and patience in dealing with a mom who is scared of this disease and needs information and reassurance.
Avatar n tn Beta blockers can effect beta receptors in the lung causing more bronchoconstriciton ie..wheezing and obstruction That said, some asthmatics take beta blockers without symptoms. However, there probably are better first line drugs such as ACE inhibitors or diuretics that are better then betablockers. You should just ask your questions with no hesitation. There should not be hesitation or concern. Clonidine effects receptors in the brain that regulate the tone on your blood vessels.
Avatar f tn A nurse practioner I have dealt with for years says I should go up to the 40 mg per endocrinologist. Also have to take metoprolol for palpitations and shaking and was nervous about that as I have some wheezing and throat congestion from time to time. Doctor's said it is fine. I just wanted to check that this may all be normal as far as adjusting to the Methimazole? Most of my life I have not had the need for any medications and only take supplements which my doctors approve of them.
Avatar n tn When this happens I feel I need Ventilan more and more and tree-four days after the first episode I am using it a lot. Then I must make a mental effort not to use it and one, two days after I'm OK. This suggests to me that an addiction phenomena may be involved, and would like to have your opinion. Thank you for your time, F.
Avatar f tn I was almost passing out, seeing stars, I had bigeminy/trigeminy day and night for days on end, I was crying for nothing, I was coughing and wheezing, I had tingling in my arms and hands, loud ringing in my ears, I couldn't concentrate let alone think. I had tons of blood work that the doctors said, "just didn't look right".

Avatar m tn I've had grave's disease in the past and have read that hyperthyroidism can produce extra calcium levels in the body which would explain my kidney stones in the past, the calcification in my heart, the extra calcium on my teeth that I have to have scraped off every now and then, and the small granuloma of calcium in my right lung, which we've watched for 5 years now and is doing okay. I feel good, I have no wheezing, no coughing, no mucous, my lungs are clear as far as congestion, etc.

Avatar n tn Known side effects of Coreg include fatigue, sleep disorders, dizzyness, and GI pains. (See for example SK Beecham site on Carvediolol). My wife uses Coreg and suffers from all these side effects. What are good counter measure drugs or non-drug therapies? What are most severve and cautionary drug interactions with Coreg? Thank you.
Avatar n tn generic (brand name), - propranolol (Inderal), atenolol (Tenormin), Labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate), metoprolol (Lopressor), pindolol (Viskin), Nadolol (Corgard), and sotalol (Betapace). These drugs work by binding to a receptor called the beta receptor. Once this receptor is blocked the drug exerts its effect in various methods. The heart rate is slowed, the blood pressure is lowered and heart rhythms are stabilized.
