Metoprolol and weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and weight loss

Avatar f tn Hello, My doctor as put me on 25 mg metoprolol extened release daily for palpitations. I am reading on the web about weight gain and hair loss. Does hanyone has any experience with this medicine--good or bad? I am 38 years old otherwise healthy, active person and I eat right but am little nervous about starting the medicine as i have heard once you go on it, you have to take it forever. Someone please advise---share your experience with the medicine. Thank you.
443862 tn?1238003039 I don't think the metoprolol, a beta blocker which; reduces the force and rate of the contraction of the heart, is causing this. The medicines that you take for hyperthyroidism might cause some exacerbation of the "hard heart beat" symptoms, especially if they are contraindicated with metoprolol, of course. Your doctor should be on top of this and I would let him know about it, especially if it just started, or is getting worse.
1577148 tn?1296159773 Do i need to have my doctor re-adjust my Metoprolol because of weight loss (55 pounds)I started at 326 pounds. I do have panic attacks (but have not had one for 3 months. Now i also take paroxetine 20mg 1xday and metoprolol 50mg 2xday for it. I also take Diovan 300mg 1xday for high blood pressure. My resting heart rate at this time is 59, before weight loss it was 75 to 85. and 95 to 105 walking before weight loss.Thank You.
1464004 tn?1384139333 1 hour of cardio each day, 30mins of weight training each day, and 30 mins of the cardio is bicycling 10s of miles. I really don't see the point n taking this medicine given its negative effects vs my generally great health.

Avatar f tn t really blame metoprolol, but blame over eating. On Weight watchers now and have lost 14 lbs. I was Prescribed metoprolol and aspirin after diagnosis of 50% blockage in main heart artery to reduce BP and prevent angina. Then After 11 years started getting rapid heart beat. Dr switched my Metoprolol and my BP went dangerously high. Put me back on metop with increase to 1&1/2. .
Avatar f tn About a month ago I was diagnosed with runs of SVT and PVCs. I was placed on Metoprolol 25mgs a day and I feel like a new person. I am using a generic made by Caraco. I am happy to say that I feel better than I have felt in years. I had the SVT and PVCs for years but none of my other cardiologists thought they were frequent enough to treat. Is that because they were males? I went to a female cardiologist and finally I am SVT free.
612551 tn?1450025775 In other words, I don't think you can freely exchange drugs and use the same weight. So if you were formerly on 25mg of Metoprolol 2X/day (which I know from experience is a fairly low dose), 25mg of Atenolol 2X/day may be huge in comparison. I had been on Metoprolol dosages as high as 200mg/day (not fun), and my cardiologist said he has prescribed dosages as high as 400mg./day.
Avatar m tn Now I'm fine but like you and others say, I have noticed that I'm loosing hair, got lazy LOL and gained weight left and right like 25lbs. I just picked up my last 30 days no more auto fills from Target because the doctor has put a message on my prescription to make a appointment to see him because I have not in 16 months. I hope he is taking me off them I also take one aspirin a day..........
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response and interest in raising questions with answers that may shed some much needed light on this dilemma. The Metoprolol and Norvase were introduced in "08" along with discovery of a congenital kidney disorder that was corrected by a surgical procedure ultimately in about 6 months. During the 6 months lead up to the surgery I began with 25mg 1 x per day of Metoprolol with no decline in BP.
Avatar m tn It seems since my meds were changed from metoprolo to nifedical xl and Carvedilol i can not sleep and have lost weight due loss of appetite. Could this be from the two new blood pressure pills they put me on and could I asked to be put back on Metoprolo Do you think my pressure had gone up was due to the blasting of the stone and passing it. Please help i do not want to relie on xanax to sleep. I need to get to the root of my problem and sleep and eat again.
1577148 tn?1296159773 I have had gastric sleeve surgery on November 20th 2014 and have lost 55 pounds and still losing around 3 pounds a week. my goal weight is 150 pounds. I have noticed that my resting heart rate ( laying down in bed )has slowed down to 59 from 75. I feel that i need to cut down my metoprolol. So i will make an appointment to see my heart doctor. I just want your opinion on this. Thank You Bajagal101.
Avatar f tn Though they come back afterwards especially after i lose the weight. My last pregnancy was 5 years ago and i did not lose the weight i had gained this time. I still had pvc's but not as many as when i was very thin. Then several months ago i lost 20 lbs and i noticed my pvc's occuring alot more again. So i was just curious if pvc's can actually occur less when you weigh more ? I also get pac's but not very often. I feel the pvc's in my chest and the pac's in the right side of my neck.
Avatar n tn He has the shakes so bad he cannot eat, becuase he cannot eat he is losing his appetite and strength. They put him on a beta-blocker Metoprolol. He coughs so bad he chokes.
Avatar n tn I have been working hard on my health and diet and just got clearance last week to stop taking the last of my meds. I took Lisinopril, Amlodipine, and Metoprolol. I was weaned off them all. I am now med free. Yay! Curious if anyone truly saw weight loss after stopping beta blockers.
19887518 tn?1486052247 I have been on a big campaign to lose weight and have lost 22 lbs. slowly and by eating healthy over the past 13 months. I weighed aprox. 232.5 lbs for several weeks in a row before starting the med. Since starting the med I have been slowly gaining and today I had a big jump to 238.6 lbs. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was so proud of myself getting down to 230-232 and felt great, now I feel terrible about the reversal. It can’t continue!
Avatar f tn Your blood pressure is ok. It should get better with exercise and weight loss. You have a good attitude and are on the right path.
Avatar f tn The only time I had chest pains or pressure was during the stress test. I am very active, currently working on weight loss having lost 16 lbs in four months. My current weight is 224, I am 5'4" tall and am very active. The only difficulty I experience is if I climb stairs, my breathing becomes labored. Is it my pulse they are trying to lower? Is my BP high? Everything I read says no. I do get "white coat" BP, but I am not sure the heart DR heard.
Avatar m tn In July I had my first anxiety attack, I went to the hospital with a pulse of 160 and BP of 160/90. I was put on metoprolol and sent home. I decided to see my family doctor and he did a battery of tests including EKG, blood test, urine test, diabetes screening and ect. All came back normal except the EKG said bordline sinus tachycardia with possible biatrial enlargement. This made my anxiety really really bad. He decided to send me for an echocardiogram.
Avatar m tn I am taking Metoprolol Tart 25 mg and I want to know if jogging to aid metabolism for weight loss is safe. I seem to tire easily and breathing is harder than it should be when working out.
942410 tn?1274050674 Funny thing is that I never really lost any tailfeathers until I was diagnosed with AFib, cardioverted and put on the dreaded Amiodarone. I still walk for exercise and have maintained the weight loss(happy blood pressure numbers now). I was prescribed Klonopin as a result of the heart diagnosis a year ago June. I really began to freakout because it is all very new territory for me. Up until then I was pretty carefree and very Healthy.
Avatar n tn Activating these pathways encourages remarkable weight loss and hormonal balance and provides many other benefits towards healthy aging. Maintaining Healthy Cells by Resolving Inflammation The epidemic of “Metabolic Syndrome” is now recognized as abdominal obesity, rising cholesterol, and pre-diabetes. Evidence shows that low levels of generalized inflammation and cellular stress are linked to insulin resistance and weight gain, and this creates an avenue for the Metabolic Syndrome to develop.
Avatar m tn About me: I'm 32 years old, male and have had mild Vertigo symptoms for 9 months now. The symptoms of feeling like I just got off a boat are constant and happen 80% of the day, all day every day. I have never fallen over from it but it does greatly affect my quality of life. About my medical past: Had Bells Palsy in April 2014 on my left side of my face (MRI, CT, Xrays done to make sure it wasn't a stroke), cleared up by June/July 2014. Vertigo like symptoms started in August 2014..
Avatar f tn Atenolol seems to work the best, at about 50% effectiveness, although the weight gain and memory loss are big problems. I don't want to live like this anymore, but I don't want to hurt my family. If I could only get into the psych hospital! This is Oakland, and you have to be a danger to OTHERS, not just yourself. A middle-class white girl with suicidal ideation "is not a priority.
Avatar f tn I am a 24-year-old female and have been experiencing many symptoms for the past couple of years, the most disconcerting of which are sleep problems, weight gain, anxiety/depression, memory loss, and profuse sweating. I recently learned that I have been in tachycardia, which would explain the sudden sweating and heat intolerance. It has been a month now since I realized that I've been above average (my resting bpm is almost consistently about 100 and escalates up to 170 with casual walking).
1124887 tn?1313758491 It is impossible to rule out angina as a cause of chest discomfort -- especially over the internet. However, in the setting of minimal risk factors and a recent negative stress test. Your blood pressure ranges are within normal limits for someone your age and actually does not qualify as hypertension --- i.e. a BP of 120/80 is normal for you. Your echocardiograms also report that your ejection fraction is normal (> 50-55%).
Avatar n tn The drug has eliminated hypertension (drop of 10-20 mm pressure), ascities (loss of over 5 lbs weight), and oedema in my ankles. It has also reduced ongoing diarrhea. I still have occasional peripheral cramping which generally resolves if I drink Pedialyte. The docs also want me to use a beta blocke, but I'm thinking why bother if I don't need it? I have advanced HCV hepatitis. I've had HCV for at least four decades.
Avatar f tn these include weak n trembly feeling, feeling hot (like hot flushes), palpitations, not getting enough air, breathlessness, and weight loss (which i wish i have but don't). worth to have it checked out. ask GP to do thyroid function test.
