Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and metformin

toprol

Avatar f tn I started on the metoprolol and in 4 months I have almost regained what I lost. And I have basically continued to watch what I eat. Has this happened with anyone else? Do other beta blockers have this effect as well? My husband is on a beta blocker, and he does not have this problem.
233616 tn?1312790796 All I can say to that is if you are not IR or have type 2 diabetes you don't want to be on metformin. My husband is diabetic and needs it but why would you want to take it if you don't need it? Too much IR resistance information going around these days. Either your IR or your not. Tx life doesn't revolve around IR resistance, diabetes, obesity etc, etc. I think it's good to be aware, but all the information lately has been a bit much. Prior to tx fasting glucose was normal.
Avatar n tn Hello =) I'm 34 years old and am about to begin my first cycle with the ovulation drug clomid. I'm a type 2 diabetic, have PCOS, and I have PSVT. I take Byetta, metformin, and metoprolol. I have been working with my Dr. for about 18 months to loose weight (I've lost over 60 lbs), get my blood sugar under control (my last 2 AICs were normal), and get medically ready to have a child. Last week he told us he feels comfortable with my heath for my husband and I to try to get pregnant.
Avatar n tn Dear Dr. Pho, I have had Type 2 Diabetes for the past 5 years. I am on Metformin (500 mg. > 2 tablets A.M. 2 tablets P.M. & Glipizide ER 5 mg > 2 tablets A.M. & 2 P.M. I am also aking Diovan HCT 320 mg / 12.5 mg. > 1 tablet A.M. & Metoprolol SUCC ER 12.5 mg > 1 tablet A.M. My recent Fasting Blood Test showed glucose of 193 and my ALT 98. My Trygliserides were 219. My doctor is concerned with the ALT level of 98. How bad is this?
Avatar f tn Increasing the dose of metoprolol might lower your heart rate and blood pressure and might improve your symptoms.
Avatar m tn She has been on medication - Aspirin 81 mg, Metoprolol, Crestor and Metformin (since recently to control her elevated sugar levels) every day. She started to experience more frequent angina attacks, along with symptoms of vomiting / nausea, abdominal pain since May of this year. The angina attacks have become progressively more frequent and severe in the past 6-8 weeks. Her cardiologist has referred her for an angiogram with a possible angioplasty this coming Thursday.
15256956 tn?1439428831 Hi all! I'm new to these forums so let me give you some extended Cliff Notes. 39 year old male who has been struggling with Anxiety for 20 years, High Blood Pressure for 13, Diabetes for 3, and now, Sleep Apnea.
Avatar n tn I also take take flaxseed oil 2000mg daily total which I find helpful, plus I'm on other medications such as atenolol , cozaar , hctz , metformin, and tricor, though BP is very controlled average like 110/70, blood sugar moderately controlled, recently my cholestrol was off the charts. By the way I'm greatly aware of my heartbeat whether fast, slow, regular or irregular just part of my makeup I am told.
Avatar f tn Maybe it could be a result from one or more of my medications (lisinopril/hctz, metformin, metoprolol, nexium, nasonex, low dose asprin)? Should I be concerned?

Avatar f tn The doctor has prescribed Losartan Potassium 100mg, Metoprolol Tartrate 100mg & Amlodipine Besylate 10mg all together, are all these three really needed ? There is a lot of pain in the legs, weakness & headaches since the doctor added Losartan on the list.. My dad is also taking Diabetic medication: Metformin HCL 500mg & Glyburide 5mg?
15860670 tn?1443544854 Well you're in luck, because I take both Metoprolol as well as a Statin, so I can give you some advice. 200mg of Metoprolol wrecked me, and I'm a very active person usually. It felt like I was walking in concrete shoes. Every step was an effort, and any physical effort caused a heavy weight feeling in my chest. My heart just wouldn't get up to speed. Fortunately I was on that dose for about 3 weeks before my physician and I cut it back to 100mg.
Avatar m tn I am a male in my 40's with elevated cholesterol, high triglycerides, slight hypertension and pre-diabetic. I do take crestor, tricor, and metformin to control those and they are now normal. I take Lisonopril for BP. A few days ago, I woke up from sleep with my heart racing, slight angina and feeling a bit dizzy. Went to the ER where they did a EKG, and echo and chest x-ray. None of them indicated any blockage. However, my HR didn't go down even when I was lying down and on IV fluids.
Avatar f tn hello every- my dad recently had a stress test that he failed- they sent him to get his arteries checked and found that two of them were clogged. he just got a stent placed and they gave him different medication. My dad already is a type 2 diabetic.
Avatar f tn 112mS I have no idea what this means can someone please explain I also have hypertension and diabetes I'm on metoprolol and enalapril for it and metformin for diabetes I also have polycystic ovarie syndrome please help Thank you
Avatar n tn I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
193177 tn?1218694001 Here is an excerpt on a Metformin Pharmacology. It doesn't appear Metformin is "processed" by the kidney but is one area where it is expelled. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/avandamet_cp.htm Metabolism and Excretion: Metformin hydrochloride: Intravenous single-dose studies in normal subjects demonstrate that metformin is excreted unchanged in the urine and does not undergo hepatic metabolism (no metabolites have been identified in humans) nor biliary excretion.
Avatar n tn Now i also have numb hands and feet and light headedness. Had an echo was ok. now taking metoprolol 25 once a day but still having pvc's. can feel them in my chest. holter read 955 pvc's and pac's in 24 hours. I too in the past have had problems with panic and anxiety, but never like this. My pulse rate goes very high 100 or more after i eat. the pvc's and pulse are always worse after i eat. This is extremely depressing and has changed my life forever.
Avatar m tn I am 66 and take atenolol 25mg, water pill small dose and a 75mg aspirin. I have high blood pressure under control and have irregular heartbeats. I was advised to take magnesium to help the irregular heartbeat and have done for the last 3 month with really good effect. Magnesium is a mineral which we quite often do not have enough in our food and I just take a one a day supplement pill.
Avatar m tn They kept me 3 days and prescribed Metoprolol 50mg and sent me home. The mri showed some white spots they said not in correct position for any problem. I started to feel worse each day,i had a prism in my left eye called neuro they said sounds like a nervous system problem.not a stroke sign etc. I consulted a infectious disease doc..because my systems were like lymes disease. She tested me no liters came up but prescribed a months dosage any way.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure after a brief stay in the hospital (admitted from the ER with chest pains). I was given several tests, including an echocardiogram and a nuclear stress test.
Avatar m tn And I have confidence in my EP, and he uses anesthetic so I don't worry about any discomfort during the procedure, and he uses cryo for AVNRT and RF for AVRT and says he won't know which it is until he does the mapping, which makes sense...and I'd really love not to have to be troubled any more by this arrhythmia that's plagued me for 46 years. Still...I'm scared. I've set the date, and I'm resigned to it...but I'm scared.

Avatar m tn I seem to get more palpitations if I increase the dose of beta blocker. Both PCP and cardiologist have said they are benign, not to worry and that many people live with them. Easier said than done! My question is - Does any one have idea what would trigger episodic PAC's/PVC's? Doesn't make any difference if I am sitting reading or out walking, onset is out-of-the-blue. There is no rhyme or reason I can think of. Any ideas out there?? Thanks for any and consideration.
Avatar f tn they put the new medicated stent in. I take metoprolol, isosorbide, metformin, aspirin, buspar, effexor, nexium, pravastatin. My problem is that I still have chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, light headedness It wasn't to bad right after the first one but after the 2nd one it has steadily gotten worse.. My doctor has ran all the test including stress test with dye, echo cardio& blood work. Everything has come back good. He said the blood flow is good.
Avatar n tn that combines both into one dose. Consequently, I've been on both a statin (Simvastatin) and a beta blocker (Metoprolol) for 1 years. My total cholesterol was 135, and my BP was 110/68. I feel no ill effects whatsoever from either drug, and will continue to take both, although I do get a biannual blood test to monitor. On the negative side, I feel the statin was largely responsible for my Type II status. Again, my physician feels the positives far outweigh the Type II.
