Metoprolol and insulin

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and insulin

672586 tn?1280937258 The main reason I wanted to change meds was that my triglycerides have been particularly high since I started metoprolol, and I strongly suspect I'm insulin resistant, or on my way to that. My insurance "health coach" pointed out that metoprolol may increase triglycerides and suggested I might want to look into alternatives. I will take my first pill tonight; my last metoprolol was yesterday morning. I hope it will just make me tired and not cause problems. Thanks everyone.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response and interest in raising questions with answers that may shed some much needed light on this dilemma. The Metoprolol and Norvase were introduced in "08" along with discovery of a congenital kidney disorder that was corrected by a surgical procedure ultimately in about 6 months. During the 6 months lead up to the surgery I began with 25mg 1 x per day of Metoprolol with no decline in BP.
Avatar n tn I am diabetic type 2 and recently started on insulin for my blood sugars. I am wondering if there is some connection with being diabetic and having these heart episodes. I am wondering if anyone else experiences the same problem. I get anxious when I have these episodes and have presented at the emergency room a few times at night when heart palpitations have been really bad.
4812794 tn?1359500746 Hello, you will need to keep increasing your insulin dose until it does work. You are taking steroid which means that you could be quite insulin resistant and will need quite a high dose. You should be using both basal (long acting) for your background blood sugar and bolus (short acting insulin) to cover meals. Are you working with a diabetes educator? Would highly recommend the book diabetes solutions by Dr.
Avatar n tn (PS past hx also significant for MVA and STI's to neck and back, and bulging (now herniated) disc at T10-11) Any help is greatly appreciated. How can this be "normal"?????
Avatar n tn For all of the people I know in that situation who lost the weight both the BP and insulin resistance returned to normal. High BP and metabolic syndrome/diabetes puts people in a mortality range the same as smokers. Yea it's bad, it'll take 15 years off average life expectancy and bro down quality of life. Salt has been shown, in every race except for blacks, to have no effect on BP management. The changes are too small from salt restriction to be clinically significant.
Avatar f tn Metoprolol. I am on Lipitor and Lisinopril. I am a type 2 insulin dependent diabetic who smoked for twenty five years and have been a not well controlled diabetic for three years. Doctor said my heart attack was from smoking and being an uncontrolled diabetic. I have quit smoking and have been following a proper diet since the heart attack two weeks ago. I am forty five years old. I went back to the ER thinking the numbness and tingles were another heart attack, not so.
Avatar n tn Evidence shows that low levels of generalized inflammation and cellular stress are linked to insulin resistance and weight gain, and this creates an avenue for the Metabolic Syndrome to develop. This cycle has been attributed to “high-glycemic” processed starches and sugars, trans fats, and lack of exercise, but new research shows that exposure to environmental pollutants can also cause inflammation.
988870 tn?1284810404 Midodrine 7.5mg at 7am, 12 noon, and 5pm. (I used to take Metoprolol ER 25mg, but it began to make my heart rate get as low as the low 40's just recently, and during a syncopal spell the nurse at the Adult Day Care I attend could not find a pulse for several seconds) My doctor mentioned that IF my HR continued to get low even after being taken off the Metoprolol that I might need a pacemaker. It's been in the high 40's, but that as low as we know about.
Avatar f tn Plus prealbuim because I did have a high Total protein, a cealic panel and fasting insulin (I requested that because my fasting glucose is often too low). And urine idione. I don't object to these. Also have very high folic acid. Just the omission of the full iron panel. I wish she had told me ahead of time what she was ordering and I would have asked her for the full panel. I've never had an issue with any of my iron, ferritin, etc before.
233616 tn?1312790796 My logic is based on knowing as INF goes low keeping it in circulation become critical as virons try to reemerge, and insulin cancels out INF so keeping you insulin and IR under control and BS a little on the low side would give you the same results as the lean people all get which are 30%-40% less relaspes. If you have some clinical experience with metformin patients and not just one anecdotal case or experience, than I would appreciate you sharing that.
503727 tn?1210442710 As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. 687079 tn?1230952212 I am experiencing lots of rapid heart beat, feeling faint, tingling throughout my body and hands and feet that like blocks of ice! I am relieved to see someone else with hypo has rapid heart beat. I thought it was jsut for people with hyperthyroid. I went to the ER recently thinking I was having a heart problem and they took an EKG and said I was fine. They said I was having panic attacks. Gave me zanax. I am planning on going to an endocrinologist. What are your numbers?
Avatar n tn I told him I would rather wait but the pills do not help the pain at all. I am on Diovan for heart and Metoprolol also Levothyroxin for Thyroid. I can not believe there is so many of us with it and can not find out what it is. Please keep us posted if any results.
452104 tn?1205710728 I went into preterm labour when they found the SVT but managed to stay pregnant on bed rest in the hospital for 6 additional weeks. I was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 29 weeks and was on insulin throughout the rest of the pregnancy. I was diagnosed with hemochromatosis at age 20 as well.
Avatar m tn that would explain why cranberry juice made me a little dizzy before going on metoprolol, and a lot dizzy recently (having recently started taking metoprolol.) Thank you!
Avatar n tn The sensation is as if my head and neck are throbbing with pressure and I have to stop walking or slow down and stop and stand still for a minute or so to make the sensation stop. Sounds are muffled in rhythm with the pulsations and I sometimes feel as if I will pass out, but never have. There is no pain. I have been checked throughly by my GP, a cardiologist, and an electrophysiologist and none of them could find a cause.
Avatar f tn My thyroid antibodies are elevated despite normal thyroid function and my GP has tentively diagnosed me with hashimoto's. She gave me metoprolol to help assist with tachycardia and anxiety and a anti depressant to help with my mood.......but i still feel like **** my whole body feels wrong and it is starting to have a huge impact on me and my partners relationship. My skin is dry, my hair is always malting and i feel like i have always got a cold with aching joints and hands and a sore throat.
Avatar n tn I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.

Nuclear stress test shows no volumes of my heart not supplied well.... surgeon did an excellent job. However, there is no erection at all. My penis remains flaccid. PCP prescribed a trial sample of Levitra. He said he didn't want me to use Cialis because he had given me Nitro for BP extremes....
2150368 tn?1337151069 I am being treated by a rheumatologist with prednisone 50mg daily, protonix 40mg daily, metoprolol 25mg qd, vit D 3xweek, bactrim ss qd, lantus qd, and sliding scale regular insulin. I have severe fatique, abdominal bloating upon any exercise/anxiety, my fasting blood glucose ranges from 170 to 425 and even on meds have borderline hypertension. I have also gained 60 lbs in 6 months.I feel my condition is getting worse instead of better. What suggestions do you have for changes in treatment ?
Avatar f tn If he takes beta-blockers (such as metoprolol) through the period prior to surgery and after surgery this risk is even lower around 0.8-1%. EVAR is much less risk and they do most of the operation through small incisions in the groins. To be honest, I am not sure what percentage end up being urgently converted to an open repair. I think this would depend on the institution and you should talk to the vascular surgeon.
193177 tn?1218694001 You may need to also add a short acting insulin which will allow you to adjust insulin doses based on what you eat and also to make corrections. Your entire insulin dosing may need to be reviewed and revised. Please discuss this with your doctors. Given your history, it will be very important to have your blood sugar well controlled. Avatar m tn I am 60 yrs old, BP of 110/70, 155lbs, non-smoker, supposedly in good health according to doc and physical exam and related test results. I have been diagnosed with mild MVP, for which my doc prescribed 25mg of Metaprolol to mask the symptoms. Each morning I excercise, alternate periods of 50 jumping jacks with, 75 push-offs, 75 leg lifts, and 75 toe-touches, and ending with 50 more jumping jacks. However, there are times that I do work around the house.
Avatar f tn They did an echocardiaogram and found out that here Aortic valve was very narrow and she had aortic stenosis and her valve had to be replaced immediately. They did a cardiac cath and confirmed that the valve was very narrow and it was important to do the surgery ASAP. My mother did not have any symptoms. She walks regularly every day, no blood pressure, no sugar and all her vitals were normal. Except for the cough.
Avatar n tn Meds are lisinopril 10 mg., glucophage and insulin as needed, multivitamin, CoQ10,aspirin. I've been symptom free 2 years until 2 weeks ago. Then I began having angina appear, in the morning, usually after I get the kids off to school, so after light activity, nothing heavy. It is relieved by nitroglycerin. Happens once or twice a day, almost always in the morning. Not every day, but almost all. Also have noticed feet and ankles swelling in the morning and late at night, with none midday.
603838 tn?1238538575 ACTH with cortisol, FSH, LH, oestradiol (female), testosterone (male), prolactin, GH, and (insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1). For this condition, thyroid replacement therapy is monitored by checking the levels of FT4 and FT3. [23] Other causes include drug use (e.g., phenytoin, rifampicin [rifampin], carbamazepine, barbiturates) and assay error when interfering substances are present.
1423357 tn?1511089042 I've been working on reducing my BG for about 3 weeks now, and I think I've made some good inroads. I got a meter and have been testing regularly, and creating a spreadsheet to show my doctor in 60 days. All of my reading with the exception of 7AM are from 75-90. I always make my fasting stick at 7AM. This is about 2 hours after rising in the morning. I've been getting readings abround 120-130. After reading about the Dawn Phenomonon.
Avatar f tn When I went back to my doctor I found out that I had an 80% blockage of my LAD. I am on Plavix, metoprolol, losartan and simvastatin along with insulin for my sugar. I also have severe pain in my arms, hands, neck and head which is why I did not recognize the symptoms of the first heart attack. My question is if I will be okay without any further intervention with the 80% blockage as long as I am on the medicine? My doctor did not seem to want to place the stent in the LAD.
