Avatar f tn Hello, My doctor as put me on 25 mg metoprolol extened release daily for palpitations. I am reading on the web about weight gain and hair loss. Does hanyone has any experience with this medicine--good or bad? I am 38 years old otherwise healthy, active person and I eat right but am little nervous about starting the medicine as i have heard once you go on it, you have to take it forever. Someone please advise---share your experience with the medicine. Thank you.
1717715 tn?1318300895 I take Metoprolol and am experiencing sever hair loss, getting increasingly oily. I am female.
Avatar n tn I came on here today to Google all my med and hair loss, and came across many pages of hair loss from Metoprolol. What can be done about this medicine and the loss of my hair? I can't walk around bald headed!
Avatar f tn //www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/hair-loss/drug-induced-hair-loss If you can't stop the medication, it suggests using minoxidil (Rogaine). I am pretty sure the oral drug (finasteride/Propecia) is only for men. It says drugs like metoprolol stress your body, so I would suspect that improving your diet, exercising as much as you are able (to improve circulation and control stress hormones) and even taking multivitamin and minerals could also be helpful.
1464004 tn?1384139333 If your blood pressure drops, at some point it can get to the situation where you start to experience symptoms like dizziness. If you experience hair loss, you should tell your doctor and look into whether it wouldr make sense to discontinue use of the drug. I was given this doc to help control symptoms. But my arhythmia, while pretty darn annoying, has only rarely motivated me to take my light dose 25mg per day. In those instances I do get dizziness and fatigue.
Avatar n tn Yes beta blockers DO cause hair loss. I was on metoperol for 5 months and lost half my hair. My doctor said yes it was from the meds. She took me off and within a week my hair stopped falling out. I don't know why it affects certain people but this drug and many other beta blockers DO cause this devastating problem. I am now waiting for my hair to start growing in. I take biotin and vitamins which my doctor reccomended. Its just a waiting game now.
Avatar f tn I take 100 mg metoprolol and I am not aware of any hair loss from that. I've taken as much as 200 mg, but only for short periods. Not hair loss then either. I think some side effects, like hair loss, are frequently temporary...hope that's your situation.

Avatar m tn I am worried about when this hair loss will stop and Will I be able to get my hair back? will the lost hair regrow? what do you advise?
Avatar f tn When they were trying to control rate with JUST beta blockers... I took 200 of propranolol and 300 of metoprolol and occasional 100 of labetalol here and there. It helped but it worked a LOT better when other classes of drugs were added. Since the point is to slow you down, it generally SLOWS you down. When I was on THAT much, I felt like I was nailed to the couch. Now, instead I take coreg as a beta blocker and diltiazem, and flecainide and lisinopril.
Avatar n tn I was off of beta blockers for a year being being put back on metoprolol and during that year my hair quit falling out and thickened back up.
Avatar m tn Now I'm fine but like you and others say, I have noticed that I'm loosing hair, got lazy LOL and gained weight left and right like 25lbs. I just picked up my last 30 days no more auto fills from Target because the doctor has put a message on my prescription to make a appointment to see him because I have not in 16 months. I hope he is taking me off them I also take one aspirin a day..........
221122 tn?1323014865 Do you take any type of Beta Blocker for your palps? Metoprolol (Toprol) made my hair fall out BIG TIME. The hair loss is starting to slow now, 2 months after discontinuing the beta blocker....
Avatar n tn The thing is that it does not run in my family since both my older brothers and dad age 75 all have a full head of hair. Up until a few years ago my hair was also pretty full as well. My main concern is that the damage has already been done for my hair. If I stop the beta blocker and the T-therapy will may hair ever return to how it was or did I just kick start the male baldness pattern thing. I have a script for propecia and I also bought some Rogaine. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Avatar f tn I have noticed for the past so many months that after I take a shower and shampoo my hair that there is a lot more hair in the drain than there use to be. The only meds that I am on are Metoprolol....25 MG 2Xdaily. Even my eyelashes seem more sparce. I am so worried about this I am getting sick about it. I have an aneurysm near my aortic root which measures 4.2. It has not changed since my initial diagnosis.
Avatar n tn He has the shakes so bad he cannot eat, becuase he cannot eat he is losing his appetite and strength. They put him on a beta-blocker Metoprolol. He coughs so bad he chokes.
Avatar f tn So my doctor wanted wanted me on a beta blocker. I said your the boss until the side effect of hair loss started happening. I am sorry but it is devastating to me who wants to go bald because of some beta blocker. If I go off this will my hair stop falling out. I am afraid to wash my hair knowing it could come out. I really want to go off this drug.

Avatar f tn 2 and I have had thyroid nodules before wold this not be a possible contributer to irregular heart beats, I am having hair loss, my eye browas are falling out and the beelly fat is had to loose.
942410 tn?1274050674 My former Cardi discharged me from his care when I refused to continue taking Amiodarone after really bad reaction to it after 6 months on it. The dreaded hair loss, weight loss, combo was just the start of the ugly stick that stuff whacks a person with...Hated It. Just my experience tho..maybe other folks are just fine with it. I'm taking no big meds at all now. Low dose aspirin, and Bio Identical hormone replacement drops. that's it. and as far as I'm concerned that's enough.
Avatar f tn I have all the symptons above (except for hair loss). I wore a monitor back in 2006 and this is how I was placed on the toprol to begin with. I currently take 50 mg daily but I have started to feel bad almost all the time now. I am 45 yrs and 5'11 not obese but according to the doctor I need to lose about 25 pds. I just saw doc yesterday and my meds has been cut to 25 mg and I have to give up all caffiene (I was already down to 2 cups a day) and my blood tests came back normal.
Avatar f tn We're all very individual, and Person A can start Synthroid and have RT3 go up, while Person B's will go down and it will have absolutely no effect on Person C's. Has your doctor offered any alternative besides Synthroid?
Avatar n tn By mid-July, I was shedding massive amounts of hair and losing lashes and thinning brows. MD agreed that it was b/c of the beta blocker, so I was weaned from it by Aug.31. I was told the hair shedding would continue for up to a year b/c of TE. Well, by last fall (2013), the shedding hadn't stopped, so I was put through a battery of blood tests in September. My thyroid results were "normal", but "normal" according to previous levels, I believe: TSH 3.
3227046 tn?1458317076 cured with radioisotope, and I have hair loss, tired and other signs of low thyroid, but my blood work came back normal for everything except vitamin d was 12! So I'm taking that. D3 5000 units by Pure Co. I stopped taking amlodipine 5 mg when I read it caused rapid heart beat about 6 days ago. My blood pressure was only borderline high when I started it along with benazapril which the cardiologist told me to discontinue and replaced it with the metoprolol.
343765 tn?1202526132 But, the side effect of any beta blocker is loss a hair and for me it was a significant loss of hair. Over the years this side effect became worse. At the age of 32 I decided to have the ablation after consulting an EP specialist in Nashville. He was supposed to be one of the best in the field and I felt very confident with him. The ablation was a success in terms of my SVT condition.
Avatar n tn I have a lot of hair loss that just started gained some weight and now have yellow stools, this is kind of scary? does anyone have any suggestions? This doctor acted like it was no big deal.. Do I head for UCLA, should I get a pacemaker? I would really like to live! Can you HELP?
Avatar n tn It says right in the accompanying medication leaflet that Metoprolol/Toprol can cause hair loss; and a cursory search online will find dozens and dozens of complaints about the hair thinning side-effect of this drug. And yet almost every time a person complains to a doctor about this side-effect, the doctor responds with "I've never heard of that being a side-effect" or "It's probably stress or diet--or genetics" and so on.
Avatar m tn As a daily replacement amount, 2 grains of Armour is equivalent to about 132 mcg of T4, and is not a huge amount. Your symptoms of constipation, hair loss, and low metabolism are frequently related to hypothyroidism. Although frequently misdiagnosed as hyper, heat intolerance can also be a symptom of hypothyroidism. Note the following section taken from a very long list of hypothyroid symptoms.
Avatar n tn Took Methimazole for 2 weeks with beta blocker felt worse than before. Stopped Methimazole due to extreme itching, hair loss that would not dissipate. 2nd of my blood test results from hospital clinic: TSH <.01 Free T3 5.74 Free T4 2.
