Avatar m tn Metoprolol caused me hair loss....Bystolic has slowed it down somewhat....
1717715 tn?1318297295 He told me age has nothing to do with my hair loss and I am the same age as you. He did tell me that the Metoprolol DOES cause hair loss/thinning and that I should NOT discontinue the medication. He ordered test but his advise to me? Get a wig! (or a hair transplant) LOL!!
Avatar f tn I take 100 mg metoprolol and I am not aware of any hair loss from that. I've taken as much as 200 mg, but only for short periods. Not hair loss then either. I think some side effects, like hair loss, are frequently temporary...hope that's your situation.
Avatar f tn Hello, My doctor as put me on 25 mg metoprolol extened release daily for palpitations. I am reading on the web about weight gain and hair loss. Does hanyone has any experience with this medicine--good or bad? I am 38 years old otherwise healthy, active person and I eat right but am little nervous about starting the medicine as i have heard once you go on it, you have to take it forever. Someone please advise---share your experience with the medicine. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Why do doctors persist in denying that Metoprolol and similar beta blockers cause hair loss? Do they really NOT KNOW or are they just oblivious and uncaring to the devastation that these meds cause?
Avatar n tn He has the shakes so bad he cannot eat, becuase he cannot eat he is losing his appetite and strength. They put him on a beta-blocker Metoprolol. He coughs so bad he chokes.
Avatar n tn I was off of beta blockers for a year being being put back on metoprolol and during that year my hair quit falling out and thickened back up.
1464004 tn?1384135733 If your blood pressure drops, at some point it can get to the situation where you start to experience symptoms like dizziness. If you experience hair loss, you should tell your doctor and look into whether it wouldr make sense to discontinue use of the drug. I was given this doc to help control symptoms. But my arhythmia, while pretty darn annoying, has only rarely motivated me to take my light dose 25mg per day. In those instances I do get dizziness and fatigue.
Avatar n tn It says right in the accompanying medication leaflet that Metoprolol/Toprol can cause hair loss; and a cursory search online will find dozens and dozens of complaints about the hair thinning side-effect of this drug. And yet almost every time a person complains to a doctor about this side-effect, the doctor responds with "I've never heard of that being a side-effect" or "It's probably stress or diet--or genetics" and so on.
Avatar n tn I have a lot of hair loss that just started gained some weight and now have yellow stools, this is kind of scary? does anyone have any suggestions? This doctor acted like it was no big deal.. Do I head for UCLA, should I get a pacemaker? I would really like to live! Can you HELP?
Avatar n tn By mid-July, I was shedding massive amounts of hair and losing lashes and thinning brows. MD agreed that it was b/c of the beta blocker, so I was weaned from it by Aug.31. I was told the hair shedding would continue for up to a year b/c of TE. Well, by last fall (2013), the shedding hadn't stopped, so I was put through a battery of blood tests in September. My thyroid results were "normal", but "normal" according to previous levels, I believe: TSH 3.

Avatar n tn I seem to have developed a fast heart rate and high blood pressure though since the proceedure but I am controlling them with 360 mg of cardizem cd and 100 mg of metoprolol daily and I feel good. I've noticed that I'm also seeing hair loss since having the proceedure. Has anyone else experienced this kind of side effects after having cardiac ablation ?
Avatar f tn When they were trying to control rate with JUST beta blockers... I took 200 of propranolol and 300 of metoprolol and occasional 100 of labetalol here and there. It helped but it worked a LOT better when other classes of drugs were added. Since the point is to slow you down, it generally SLOWS you down. When I was on THAT much, I felt like I was nailed to the couch. Now, instead I take coreg as a beta blocker and diltiazem, and flecainide and lisinopril.
Avatar n tn I am a 53 yo man diagnosed ~8 years ago with lone paroxysmal atrial flutter and afib. Long term history of endurance sports but nothing outrageous - running 20 miles a week since my teens. Episodes are generally less than an hour, but frequent - typically one every day or couple of days. Have been trying a "pill in a pocket" appproach - that is, I will take some metoprolol (50 mg tablet) if the tachycardia lasts more than 5 minutes.
20748650 tn?1521032211 Medical professional here at a loss; Recently a family member of mine started TriNessa. History wise she is mildly hypotensive at baseline and takes metoprolol for rhythm control. Her resting bp is 90/50, resting heart rate 40-55, pvc burden 6%. This is with metoprolol, which has been successful at suppressing symptoms. Since starting trinessa however the following has been noted; A return of symptomatic PVC's and effective loss of burden control Metoprolol observed at home.
221122 tn?1323011265 Do you take any type of Beta Blocker for your palps? Metoprolol (Toprol) made my hair fall out BIG TIME. The hair loss is starting to slow now, 2 months after discontinuing the beta blocker....
Avatar f tn Yes, I'm having classic symptoms including a resting heart rate of 120 when not on Metoprolol (108 now - working to get it below 90), heart rate of 140 when I walk up one flight of stairs, shortness of breath, diarrhea, dripping sweats, hair loss, etc. This is why I am on meds. I've only been on meds for a week so I'm not sure how meds are affecting my levels as of yet. It just seems that many people take meds for a long time and then ultimately end up having RAI or a TT.
443862 tn?1237999439 I don't think the metoprolol, a beta blocker which; reduces the force and rate of the contraction of the heart, is causing this. The medicines that you take for hyperthyroidism might cause some exacerbation of the "hard heart beat" symptoms, especially if they are contraindicated with metoprolol, of course. Your doctor should be on top of this and I would let him know about it, especially if it just started, or is getting worse.
Avatar f tn The first in two years landed me in the Hospital. My meds were changed from Metoprolol to Diltiazem 360 mg per day and Fleconade 50 mg 2x per day plus Warfarin. The Metoprolol 25mcg 1 x daily has been making me wheeze for the past four years, but no one ever thought to change the meds. I have been on this new med protocol for 1.5 weeks. I just started the Fleconide and Warfarin three days ago. My question is I need to loose 45 pounds asap.
407053 tn?1201998633 i was pregnant with my first baby in 2005 and they found out that i had Mitral Valve Prolapse and put me on metoprolol.. its a blood pressure medication but it can also be used to treat mvp. my daughter has reacently turned two and my husband and i have been trying for a year to get pregnant with a second child. my first pregnancy was fine and normal other than my heart condition but it did not affect her at all.
Avatar f tn Only in the past 20 days, hair fall has gone up. Does hair straightening dry out the hair causing lack of moisture and thus hair fall?? I truly hope that this is temporary as you mentioned!!
Avatar f tn I just finished Sovaldi and olysio and no hair loss at all, in fact hair looked great I do have hypothyroid which is familial, mother , daughters have it, Check your thyroid levels That can effect hair loss, dryness etc( even my eye brows and under arms thinned from hypothyroidism ) You may need to be on thyroid medication such as synthyroid if it is off
Avatar f tn My hair has ALWAYS been so thick and moisturized and healthy and now its dry and frizzy and falling out! Its awful im so embarrassed it literally never stops falling out.
