Metoprolol and cough

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and cough

1933354 tn?1323366434 Hello, My cardiologist switched me from Toprolol ER to Lopressor 25mg about 3 weeks ago. This past week, I started developing a dry cough. I had a nurse practioner come to my house and look at me, she said I had allergy rhinitis and to just take a zyrtec daily until it clears up. My question is this. I have been having tight chest and coughing. A slight heaviness sensation in my chest. I saw that side effects for this med consitst of heart failure and heart block.
Avatar f tn Ugh, I hate a lingering cough. Couple of things come to mind. First, coughs can last a long time. Once the airway and bronchial tubes get irritated, they take a while to get better. So the least little thing will cause a coughing jag (exertion, changing position to lay down, etc.). It can happen that it takes 2 months to get over a cough because of this. But there are other things to consider. You can get a type of asthma related to having been sick and this airway irritation.
Avatar m tn After a lot of dizziness and other pain, and discussions with my doctor, I slowly decreased my dose and have been Metoprolol free for two days. My cough, wheeze, pain etc has almost gone. I have immediately more energy and also no dizziness. My legs and ankles still hurt and I have tight calves. I hope my body returns to what it used to be. My palpitations and tachycardia settled a while back after being aggressively treated for iron deficiency anaemia.
Avatar m tn Thanks for sharing and if there are any followup questions you are welcome to ask.
Avatar n tn For the past year I have experienced a tickling sensation in my chest on and off, especially when breathing cold air, also a tight feeling occassionaly when I walk outside especially in cold air. Most recently, I had cold symptoms, starting with swollen glands, dry cough, lowgrade fever and laryngitis.....
Avatar n tn I suggest that you discuss this with his doctors and see if it could be arranged to have his oxygen level documented when he is at rest, asleep when walking and during a coughing spell. The combination of cough and changes in blood pressure can also result in abnormal heart rhythms. This could be revealed by the use of a continuous heart monitoring device. It might also be wise to check his blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I'm torn between trying the metoprolol and going without. I could really use some help and advice here. I'm going to see a cardiologist who specializes in heart arrhythmias in a month. A long time to wait, but I need to go to a specialist as well as my regular family physician. Anyone had a situation similar to mine, especially with regard to tiredness and reflux problems (heartburn) from taking a beta blocker? Thanks very much.
Avatar n tn It's also possible that his cough is the result of the breathing tube he had in his throat during and after the surgical procedure.
Avatar m tn Some of your meds may actually be the cause of exasperated hacking cough. This a reportable event and your prescribing doctor should be notified asap if the surgeon dismisses totally any association with the surgery. You have access to any details regarding your surgery, so this can be verified. There's a possible interaction between Digoxin and Lasix, which may be causing lower levels of potassium and magnesium. Digoxin? Were you made aware of the high risks associated with this drug?
Avatar n tn He has the shakes so bad he cannot eat, becuase he cannot eat he is losing his appetite and strength. They put him on a beta-blocker Metoprolol. He coughs so bad he chokes.
Avatar n tn Ive had this problem for about 3 years draining down my throat and trying to cough it up a yellow color I am taking Effexor 37.5 once a day Norvasc 5 mg a day, Zetia 10 mg a day, Metoprolol 50 mg a day Aspirin 81 mg aq day prilosec 20 mg a day would like your opinion. Thank you much.
Avatar n tn Hi, can you tell us the difference(s) between Altace (ramipril) and metoprolol? What different effects do they each have that are different from each other? Are there any long-term bad side effects to ramipril? And your opinion to a combination of aspirin and Plavix to decrease the bloodclotting potential of just aspirin alone? Thank you. Ross I.
Avatar m tn I had a PVI ablation a couple months ago and the EP took me off Fleccanide last week and kept me on 50 mg metoprolol. Since then infrequent PACs have turned to frequent (say 2-4 hrs a day of up to one beat in 3 of mostly skipped beats) which manifests itself as a "thud" which rises into the throat and sometime becomes a dry cough. Chest pains sometime "stingy" and other time "dull" which come and go.
Avatar f tn After being released from the hospital, her chest tightened up and her cough got worse. Three days later, she was hospitalized with CHF and AFIB at a different hospital. I was told her BNP was 6000 when she entered the hospital. In four days, it decreased to 4000. Then three days later it was 2000. She was released from the hospital with a BNP of 2000. The hospital internal medicine Dr.
Avatar f tn Can I ask do you notice that if it feels like your heart skips and jumps around? The feeling the need to cough may be related to ectopic beats and not necessarily tachycardia so there could be a few issue going on. What was your rate when you said it skyrocketed during pregnancy? Is this the only time that happened? Do you sense episodes or just a generally faster than it should be rate? I did have an svt that was correctable.
Avatar n tn I had bad luck with the 3 holters, only a few of them appeared, and they said something about bigeminism, gave me all sorts of calmants like xanax, and the last one prescripted rythmonorm and metoprolol-for 2 years, efects.I am no anxious type.I don't know what to do anymore.Check if you have this disease ,hiatal hernia,i heard it's an easy surgical intervention.I cannot have an surgical intervention if i don't proove on holter that i have ..
Avatar n tn s basically every other day. I also take L-Carnatine 500mg Tue and Fri, Zinc and Magnesium on Monday, and CoQ10 100mg twice daily. Of course every person is different so you need to experiment. The most important thing, monitor yourself, there are those heart rate/O2 monitors and wrist-cuff blood pressure monitors available for about $15 each on that big online reseller named after that river in S. America.
Avatar n tn and norvasc 10 mg. Our problem is and no one seems to know, why is he so tired all the time? He still works and its a hard job forklift mechanic. He is always so tired since this happened? he keeps his nitro with him at all times, i don't know if he is not telling me something. Stress test every year shows fine. We live in Kansas City, and I think I had the best doctor for him at St. Joeseph Hospital.
Avatar f tn About 1 1/2 weeks ago I noticed I was in a ventricular bigeminy when I listened to my lungs due to my cough and heard my heart! This was confirmed by EKG a few days later when I had a preop appt for an elective surgery. I saw a cardiologist who ordered a exercise echo. The echo showed resting EF 50% (I was also still in bigeminy) but I was not able to get my HR up enough during exersise due to SOB so my stress EF was not accurate.
Avatar m tn That then prompts me to feel my pulse and its always out of beat or skipping beats. It then feels like I have to cough and when I do all symptoms go away. I have had like a raspiness in my chest a few months now and has gotten progressively worse. Sometimes I cough to the point I throw up and or have sharp pain on my head. I have also been diagnosed with GERD a few years back. I was using Agave in my coffee and drinking a lot of Arizona tea with honey and Ginseng since my initial attack.
Avatar m tn Hi, Cough and sputum are signs of either common cold or lower respiratory tract infections. In either case, as you have undergone major surgery it is important to get a chest x-ray and examination by your doctor for confirmation of the cause for this. In certain cases, as patient’s are mostly in lying position, chances are high to get fluid accumulation or infection. If it common cold, symptomatic treatment would be enough.
Avatar f tn but those usually go away if I back off on my pace. sometimes with the pain I also get a cough, and it hurts more with the cough. I have had a very extensive cardiac workup. I do have a S1. S2 murmur. mild tricusp regurg, mildly thickened mitral valve leaflets, mild thickened aortic valve (age related?) I have had echo, cardiac cath, nuclear reason for the pain?? the pain didn't come on when i had the stress test....i guess they didn't challenge me enough?
1423357 tn?1511089042 I get these little runs sometimes when I can fell my normal rhythm beating underneath the SVT. They'll usually drop out on their own, or I'll give a hard cough, and it disappears. Then there's the ones where I go from 60-200 in what seems like an instant. The resulting rapid beating is hard and forceful and I can see my chest bumping in unison with them. They're the ones I have to convert with Valsalva. Getting down to the wire!
503727 tn?1210442710 As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.
Avatar n tn It useally happens before my period and now it's happened after my period. I have to cough to get it back on rythem. I hate it . Sometimes scary and annoying. I don't know if its my hormones or if I have afib. My mom has afib. I just went and seen my cardiologist and got an EKG and wore a monitor for 24 hours. Haven't heard anything yet only on EKG it was normal.
Avatar n tn with the same thing, he told me to take Aleve 3 times a day....I also have a bad cough and was diagnosed today with high blood pressure and asthma....what in the heck is going on.......I am quite frightened......he did an EKG just to rule out a heart attack and some blood work, said it was routine testing but I wonder?!?!?!
Avatar n tn I know we are all told not to worry about it, but as has been said before, I wish they could be in my shoes and feel these irregularities. Taking a beta blocker (metoprolol) does seem to have some minimal effect, but doesn't always work. As far as anxiety is concerned, for me that is not a problem. So I'm back to square one. As of now I am trying to find an alternative solution (vitamins, Coq10, et.) that will work for me.
534785 tn?1329595808 In any event, my headaches are back with a vengeance because I stopped Propranolol and started on Metoprolol. Thank you both for your input and help. I really appreciate it since most of my doctors aren't that interested in my case and my family and friends don't understand what I'm going through...they're even getting sick of me being sick for so long!
Avatar m tn If you're still able to run 7 miles, any connection between the cough and the heart would be very premature and inappropriate. As far as symptoms go; coughs are about as non specific as they get. Even when you KNOW you have an illness that causes coughs you can still discover you have something non related that caused it. For example you can have known lung cancer... You get a cough. It would make sense that its related to the cancer right? Wrong!
1423357 tn?1511089042 I don't know if the cardiologist thought I was blowing smoke, having never recorded one of my events, but when he saw the first recording, he called me immediately and upped my dosage of Metoprolol which had been cut back at my request. He immediately set up an appointment with a respected EP out of UMass Oct.12, 2010 The EP looked at the traces, and proclaims that it bears all of the markers of Wolff Parkinson White syndrome. It's abrupt and hits hard.
