Metoprolol and bisoprolol

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and bisoprolol

Avatar m tn But I am an anxious person and was prescribed beta blocker(Metoprolol ER 50mg and Amlong which was changed to 25mg metoprolol ER and Losartan 25mg after 4 years). Yes I dont have any heart problems and nothing in my family and also not diabetic. My age is 40. Still taking metoprolol only and will go for a review soon and would sort things out. I am happy with metoprolol 50mg ER to Bisoprolol 5mg...
Avatar f tn I can tell you that Bisoprolol IS a Class II beta blocker, just like Metoprolol, Atenolol, and Propranolol. It comes with the side effects associated with Class II antiarrythmics. I can tell you that for me, my chosen class II beta blocker Metoprolol did little for my PVCs or to prevent SVTs that I was frequently experiencing.
Avatar f tn Can anyone help with advice on Bisoprolol. My Father has been taking this for just over 12 months due to a heart attack & having 2 stents. He was started on in Nov 2010 but since June 2011 has been having problems coldness & numbness in his fingers & toes which is now getting to the extent he can hardly feel them. He has been under a doctor at the hospital ?vascular, who has carried out numerous tests ie. CT scan, nerve ending test, to name a few & all are clear.
351404 tn?1299492730 My changed regime has been for a week now. However, the bisoprolol is making me feel so fatigued and depressed and my eyes want to shut all the time. As it is such early days, is there an alternative to this drug and should I present myself demanding an alternative, or is this my lot from now on?
Avatar m tn In October, I decided to lower my dose of Bisoprolol, and over the last 2 Months, I have lowered the dose from 1,25 Mg to 0,60 Mg and 0,30 Mg. But breathing problems and "bad days" were still here. Now, I haven't took Bisoprolol for the last 14 days. I have slightly more energy, I am not that tired, but symptoms of breathing problems and "bad days" when I can barely walk are still here and they are repeating each 3-4 days. Also, before taking BB, my BP was 120-130.
Avatar m tn My son is abroad. He takes Atenolol 25 mg and Ato-bisaprolol 5mg. Ato-bisoprolol is ending because there were not 90 pills but 60. The pharmasist did not warn about that. Can he start taking Metoprolol 50 mg instead?
Avatar m tn I did try the Atenolol, Nadolol, they are not lipophilic and apparently do not produce CNS side-effects but they lower too much my blood pressure and didn't see a lot of difference between the side-effects from the water solube and lipophilic ones... They all make me tired, some of them are worse and the Bisoprolol and Metoprolol are the worse for me in term of side-effects. The half-life of the Metoprolol is between 3 to 7 hours...
Avatar m tn I am also on Metoprolol and I exercise for at least an hour everyday and have no issues. It may also be that my blood pressure was so low ( 96/60 ) before and it just doesn't effect me that bad, but my grandfather has the shortness of breath type issue on his so I would just say to see your doctor and see what they have to say. Good Luck.
Avatar f tn I was on Toprol XL 45 mg for 3 years and then on the generic Metoprolol Succinate for another 2. The cardiologist told me to stop it, I had shortness of breath and terrible night sweats. I cut them in half and did that for 10 days, then I took those half pills every other day for 10 more days and then I stopped. No ill effects.
Avatar f tn The doc said it's not any more potent than metoprolol, but I hear all the negative comments about it and 120mg a day seems a bit high. And if it won't keep my heart rate down then it won't be of use anyway. The fear of rapid heart beat is there, even though I know it probably isn't dangerous, it's a bit unnerving. And even if I'm totally relaxed, the last few times I tried to have sex, I could not keep an erection. And so then my anxiety goes up again, and my confidence goes down.
Avatar m tn i did one echo that was normal, i only had tachycardia. Doc gave me metoprolol. I was taking metoprolol for 12 days and suddenly felt something like pvcs. When i did ecg back in the hospital i saw several pvcs. 2 years ago i did a holter monitor there i got 208 pvcs. these 2 years i felt totally fine but after taking metoprolol i got pvcs and i have it especially at night. what should i do? can anyone help?
Avatar n tn metoprolol is a beta blocker and is mainly given in hypertension, angina and cardiac arrethmias. it should be taken by the halp of your physician. if you want to goes off it suddenly it can affect alot. so you have to taper off it by steps. Dr.
Avatar f tn I did it this way: I cut the pills in half and used half a pill for 10 days and then I took half a pill every other day, again for ten days, and then I stopped altogether.
612551 tn?1450025775 Research on the web says that Atenolol is much longer lasting than Metoprolol and suggests that Metoprolol Tartrate has to be taken twice a day... Atenolol only once ! Strangle, again, my Cardiologist who issued a prescription for Atenolol upon my request to be allowed to try it is for 25 mg twice a day.
Avatar f tn My MRI shows white mater hyperintensity that may be MS or not. I have tried topiramate, metoprolol, naproxen, sandomigran, and am to start Bisoprolol tomorrow. Will it possibly decrease my migraine which I have had constantly since Jan 20 this year, I have had two weeks only headache free since may 2013.
Avatar m tn 5mg of Bisoprolol (powerful substitute for your metoprolol) and a 2.5mg of Ramipril (blood pressure meds). I repeat the same procedure in the evening and everything seems stable. If you do decide to go the same route as me, I would recommend starting on 1.25mg of Bisoprolol twice daily because it is powerful. I went to 5mg once and ended up in hospital with very low pressure and pulse and it took 4 days to get everything back to normal again. 1.
Avatar m tn If intolerance to carvedilol has been proven d/t bronchoconstriction, it can be replaced with the more selective forms like metoprolol, bisoprolol and if out of the US, nebivolol. In the other hand, there are numerous publications that support the use of BB in heart failure patients in terms of increasing survival and quality of life, so BB should not be avoided in a patient only because of asthma. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Metoprolol and Bisoprolol are both lipofile betablockers. Bisoprolol work a bit longer (half life 10-12 hours) than the Metoprolol (3-7 hours), but I still assume that you can switch to a single betablocker. If your SOB is increasing from once a day to several times and also gets more intense, I suggest that you contact your cardiologist. This does not sound to me like a side effect of the 2 betablockers. Something else might be wrong.
612551 tn?1450025775 I will try again, this subject has not brought any responses in an attempt a few months back. I believe, and my cardiologist confirms it is possible, that Metoprolol (beta blocker) cause me to have unwanted dreams every night... never miss a night, or even a nap, always dream and dreams that are slightly upsetting. I like to call them troublemare not nightmare. I have tried, with doc's approval, changing how much and when I take my BB.
Avatar f tn I found Bisoprolol was the best one and it only took 1.25mg to have the desired effects. If I increased to just 5mg my heart rate became too slow, around 28bpm. At 1.25mg I could get my heart rate quite high, but it got there nice and gently. No sudden adrenaline surges caused it to suddenly jump high. It was strange to not feel those familiar butterflies when under stress. Bisoprolol didn't affect my blood pressure, I had to take an Ace Inhibitor separately for that.
Avatar m tn That's where I am at the moment, and I am on Metoprolol now (a BB) to lower my HR. I don't push (run) my HR and haven't in the last two years+. Some years back I was in NSR with just Toprol (a BB) and while my overall HR was lower, it was not real low. Best I can recall it was 60+ at rest and would run fine at 150 if I was working at a constant level. I was a runner/jogger, so I had regular experience with holding a target HR for a half hour or so, I usually quite/slowed-down at 3 miles.
Avatar f tn of Bisoprolol , but if it is anything close to that of Metoprolol (a common generic beta blocker used in the USA) I'd say 5 mg is very low dosage. I take 50 mg of Metoprolol and get a considerable reduction in my AFib driven heart rate (down from a rest rate of about 130 to something in the 80s). This makes me suggest you have a discussion on increasing your beta blocker. Do you experience any side effects from the Bisoprolol ?
Avatar m tn Since my pace maker, difib implant, I started using metoprolol succ er. When we changed to bisoprolol I have experienced ankle pain, now severe knee pain, and pain in implant area when trying to do bench presses. We have changed back to metoprolol starting today. Befeore implant I could run 25 miles a week without pain. Ater implant abot 10 -15 miles a week, less miles, slower pace with added days to rest in between. This is the first time I am experiencing pain ever. what should I do?.
Avatar n tn I say beta blockers because I have tried all of them, (Metoprolol, Atenolol, Bisoprolol) in an effort to reduce the side effects. I am currently on Atenolol taking 2 to 3 25mg per day to control my heart rate. Currently my blood pressure is around 130ish/60ish and pulse ranging from 80s to 100 depending on when the Atenolol begins to wear off. I feel like Hell all day along with chest pressure, general tireness and sometimes shakiness.
Avatar n tn Im wondering if any of you ladies have been in my situation and stayed on the metoprolol throughtout your pregnancy and how did things turn out?? Typically I live a very normal life when I'm on my medication, if I don't have it...I'm bedridden. my heart rate will be 200 and I will not be able to stand after just stopping the medication for one day. Please weigh in and let me know if you have any experience with this. Thank you!! Also, has anyone tried Labetelol? They want to switch me to that..
Avatar f tn Than one day I made an appointment with a new cardiologist who insisted I switch beta blockers. She gave me bisoprolol, and immediately I started feeling anxious. I thought maybe it was just me over thinking the new meds, but eventually I ended up in the emergency room with a heart rate that wouldnt come below 140 until late at night when my Bisoprolol would wear off. Point is, different people react differently to different beta blockers.drugs, and there's no way to tell until you try them.
Avatar m tn They did not see afib, just 191 PAC's and some runs of PAT, longest 12 seconds, over the 48 hours Symptoms are still the same. Have been switched to Bisoprolol from Metoprolol. So this seems less worrisome, though I'd still like to determine and remedy the cause, if I can. Will start reading about PAC's on the forum.
Avatar n tn When ever I have an episode it switches between a pretty normal sinus rhytm just large p wave morphology, to atrial flutter and atrial fibrilation. Metoprolol Given Intravenously made my ecg come back normal, just slightly tachycardic. So i dont know what to think.
Avatar m tn Anyways, I've been trying to ween off the bisoprolol and was doing so successfully. I got down to about .75mg of bisoprolol and was doing great. I was exercising, and my heart was responding great. My blood pressure was 110/70 and I was having few pvc's etc. Well my dad recently required surgery and the stress got to me and I had a pretty big panic attack. Because of this I went back to my 1.25 mg of bisoprolol.
Avatar f tn They said a lot of girls my age go through this and go through POTS. They switched my meds to 2.5 bisoprolol and it was working great. I felt ok. My BP and heart rate was perfect. But when I would wake up I felt pounding in my chest but it wasn’t beating fast so I tried not to pay much attention. There was one day after cleaning I was like man I’m having palpitations and I felt like I was going to pass out and I was panicking. I calmed down and it went away.
