Metoprolol and birth control

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and birth control

toprol

Avatar n tn Your observation that my disease is lprogressing is likely accurate and the metoprolol I am taking is insufficient to either control my rhythm or my rate. Since my post I have had a flutter ablation and am pursuing a more aggressive medical approach to deal with the afib. (Not confident about the efficacy of afib ablations yet.) Hopefully I can find something that will adequately keep me in sinus, because life at 150 bpm is for the birds!
Avatar f tn is it advised to take Metoprolol during pregnancy ? can the women breast feed with this condition ? what type of birth control method is suitable for women this condition ? is there limitation of how many children you can have ?
Avatar n tn However, if the metoprolol is absolutely necessary for the control of your syncope and there is no other medicine that will suffice you and your doctor may want to look to ways to reduce its adverse effects on your lungs. Two such would be: 1) a reduction in metoprolol dose, and 2) the addition of non cardio-stimulatory asthma medicines to your regimen to counter-act the seeming impact of the metoprolol on your lungs.
Avatar f tn Hello! In July of Last year I was put on birth control pills to help with my diagnoses of PCOS. Long story short, I developed a Massive Pulmonary Embolism in my lungs due to the contraceptives. It did a number to my heart as it passed through. I was then put on blood thinners and Metoprolol. I am now off the thinners but my Heart Doctor kept me on the Beta Blockers because I still had Tachycardia and my blood pressure is still a little high.
Avatar m tn t know Atelenol, but I do know Metoprolol and AFib. I am currently living with AFib and taking medications only to control, lower, my heart rate (HR). Metoprolol does the latter, as well as given unwanted lowering of my blood pressure (BP). So I am treating AFib as a condition that is treated for "rate control" and for "clot prevention", I also take warfarin.
Avatar f tn I have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and I have friends that have several friends with it also and they have children. Your pregnancy will probably be high risk though. An epidural can obviously make your heart rate increase so there could be complications but I know several that have an epidural and also some that their doctors said it wouldn't be safe. Basically depends on your doctor and if are willing to take the risk of the epidural.
Avatar m tn There seems to be conflicting information out there regarding how metoprolol (and selective beta blockers) effect potassium levels in the blood... I know that non-selective BB can raise levels, but not sure how selective BB effect potassium levels. The reason I ask is that I like to have a high-potassium diet to control my palpitations, but wonder if I need to be careful how much I intake...
Avatar n tn Blood Pressure is good and Tachycardia is mostly under control. I can exercise and get heart rate to 160, but not much above that which is good. Would it be good to switch to help raise HDL or should I stick with the Beta Blocker?
Avatar n tn I've been having PVC's since about 2003. Usually would have a few bouts of them every year where they would come on every evening for anywhere from a week to a couple months. I've managed to live with them until recently. The past six months have been a nightmare. The PVC's are sometimes constant all day and night...sometimes every third beat, sometimes every 4th or 5th beat.
Avatar f tn Hi so I have periodic bouts of fast pulse, have had all the heart tests, all were normal. Also am thin and in decent shape. My cardiologist recently put me on 25mg Metoprolol twice a day, so 50mg a day. It's helped a lot overall. It's especially helped get rid of those skipped beats and noticeable palpitations I used to get. It's also definitely slowed my heart rate down. I've been taking it twice a day, once in morning and evening. I'm supposed to take it with food.
Avatar n tn She initially did chemo and steroids to get everything under control, and while she is usually fine, she does deal with a lot of fatigue. She started having noticeable cardiac issues (flutters, racing, chest pain) over the summer, which eventually resulted in a Holter monitor. She had her f/u with her cardiologist yesterday and was diagnosed with PVCs. She was put on Metoprolol, and told to go to the ED if she had an episode that lasted more than 30 seconds.
Avatar f tn Yes, Metoprolol is a beta blocker and used to lower blood pressure and heart rate. I take 50 mg extended release to slow down tachycardia due to Afib. So my GUESS, is yes beta blocker is lowering HR. Too Low? I'd think, again guess, anything under 50, unless just waking up from a restful sleep, is too low. But I am not trying to argue with your medical advice, I am myself "just" a patient, a long time sufferer from Afib.
Avatar f tn I'm 33 years old and prescibed Metoprolol for my heart palpitations, which happens everytime I eat food. After all cardiac tests came back normal, she mentioned that it may be stress related. I'm now being prescribed 20 mg Celexa for aniexty. I only take 6.25 mg of Metoprolol, cutting it into quarters, but are scared to take the two in combination. There are so many warnings about not mixing them. My heart rate has slowed down with the Celexa, but I still get the pounding sensation.
Avatar f tn I'm currenetly taking 25mg daily of Metoprolol ER. This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. I was going to ask my doctor to change to Bystolic. Has anyone here had any success in changing over to Bystolic from Metoprolol ?
Avatar f tn I have been taking metoprolol and diltiazem for sixteen months and initially the medications brought the SVTs under control. Fourteen months ago I started coughing blood and experiencing chest congestion. This took my attention off any heart issues and sent me on a long search for the cause of the bleeding. After many tests and visits with various specialists I never did get the answer. The bleeding resolved itself after 10 months (last October) and has not reappeared.
Avatar f tn Over the past few years, I have had everything under control, and been doing beautifully, barely noticing any real issues from my past. I was put on the Metoprolol to help control some issues with my heart. It was an immediate downhill slide into depression. At 5 weeks on the medication, I had a breakdown, and was admitting into a Psychiatric Unit for 3 1/2 days.
264156 tn?1206986994 5 mg of metoprolol and it dramatically calms things down. Is it okay to take metoprolol as needed? I would say I take it once every 8-9 days, but sometimes have to take it 2-4 days in a row. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!
19887518 tn?1486048647 I am so drowsy, tired and weak since starting Metoprolol 3 weeks ago. I take 12.5 mg twice a day with food for my afib. I wake up refreshed. Several hours later some days I feel totally fine other days drowsy. But everyday around 2:30 or 3 pm I crash hard. Very tired. After a 60 minute nap I'm still a bit drowsy but better. Now it's 11 pm and like usual I feel much better but still weaker than before the med. Is there any chance I'll get used to the drug and quit being so tired?
Avatar f tn that is a great medication for svt. if you are not anxious, and your heart rates are out of control and you are symptomatic, you could go to the ER. what does it feel like when your heart rate hits 186?
Avatar f tn 5 mg of Metoprolol succinate for 10 days to be taken once a day to control the palpitations and increased heart beat. However I read from several sources that abruptly stopping the medicine will do more harm than good. Question: as I only need to take it for 10 days, will I not abruptly stop it after taking it only for such a short period of time?
1464004 tn?1384135733 This drug is used to control hypertension and some heart rhythm issues. If your blood pressure drops, at some point it can get to the situation where you start to experience symptoms like dizziness. If you experience hair loss, you should tell your doctor and look into whether it wouldr make sense to discontinue use of the drug. I was given this doc to help control symptoms. But my arhythmia, while pretty darn annoying, has only rarely motivated me to take my light dose 25mg per day.
1027737 tn?1253103788 Hi, Can someone tell me what the difference between Metoprolol and Metoprolol Tartrate is? Thank You in advance!
Avatar f tn I was told I had svt and I take 100mg of metoprolol xl. That seemed to control it pretty well with just a few skips and flip flops here and there. Then 5 days ago I started feeling like my heart would stop and start and I feel like I can't catch my breath. It has happened many times a day. So is that pac or pvc? Would the high dose of metoprolol not help with that? I have major anxiety over this and I don't know how to control it. It just seems to get worse.
Avatar f tn I have heard about the patch and the IUD and wanted to know all about them or any other really effective birth control. I don't want anything that will increase my acne, weight, or flow. I have bad acne and flow as it is.
