Avatar f tn She was given drugs to sedate her and for pain during intubation and needed methadone to wean her off the meds. Then the methadone was tappered over a period of 5 days. Many people don't realize this is common for children who have been on ventilators, usually more then 5 days. She still had awful withdrawal the first 24 hours even on methadone. And some mild withdrawal after the methadone tapper had ended. Irritable, shakey, low grade fever and lethargy.
Avatar f tn spent 18 years on methadone before being involuntarily withdrawn from 75mg methadone over an 8 week period. Last 20mg I came off at 1mg per day. I am now taking (not prescribed) 5-20mg methadone per day as I couldn't cope with some withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone is not available to me in New Zealand & my GP prescribed zopiclone 7.5mg for sleep.
Avatar f tn I believe everyone is different. I was on klonopin for 2 years and became pregnant and had to ween off of it. This was not hard. However I was unable to ween off subutex (not recommended because opiate withdrawal can be very dangerous for an unborn baby) and switched to methadone for my pregnancy which is the most studied and safest drug to take while pregnant.
Avatar m tn HI in most states you do need a special license to write methadone but a lot of doctors just dont mess with it because it is so contravsal it will be ez to get off the fentnal and most doctors will then move you to hydro from ther making the withdrawal ezer ........methadone is the hardest of the narcotics to come off off due to the long withdrawal period what your doctor is doing will help eaz the pain keep posting for support and let us know how this turns out for you good luck and God bless..
Avatar n tn Thanks for your advice, I am just scared that I am taking the methadone for a few days to help with the vic/perc withdrawal, only to experience withdrawal from the methadone! I hope not. But at the same time, if I am only taking 5mg-10mg of methadone per day, I am hoping that is unlikely after only a few days.
Avatar f tn I haven't been on this sight in quite awhile. A lot has happened in three years. I had underlying issues which is why i took opiates and ended up at the methadone clinic for eight months. Well i was diagnosed bipolar and take medication. Also along my three year journey I had severe anxiety. I was put on klonipin but decided I didnt want to get addicted and stopped after a short period. No withdrawals. For all the people that are going through methadone withdrawal it can be done.
Avatar f tn no methadone trust me i made the mistake of taking that path 3 weeks ago but now im fighting to detox from that much longer and drawn out if i could go back and wd from pills id do it in a heartbeat i know its not easy but id take it over this methadone detox any day! it is best if you can taper down.
Avatar f tn I returned to methadone as was best option during pregnancy.(fortunately baby had no withdrawal symptoms). Haven't used heroin for about 5 years but so scared of withdrawal, thought i would be on one of the above for life. Baby now 19mths & have been withdrawing slowly so can still fulfill parental (single). I am currently on 4mg and have conflicting info regarding what to do next.
1311475 tn?1274198780 I am now taking 60 mg. of methadone, trying to get off of the methadone to become eligible for other pain treatment. I didn't know where to ask this question. The 1st reason I started taking the methadone was due to heroin abuse, which I started to kill the pain from a car accident. I had dabbled in heroin use prior to my car accident. But have been clean for many years now, thanks to the methadone.
Avatar f tn Withdrawal with methadone will be there no matter what. Someone on this forum tapered over an 8 month period and still felt extreme withdrawls. Methadone individualized. Someone should be a long sbetter answer your question. Until then hang tight. I too am battling the dearth grib of opiates at going cold turkey from 110mgs. Today is day 8.
Avatar n tn my daughter is 33yrs old and was arrest on 8/27/08. At the time of her arrest she was on daily methadone (110mg). since they don't give methadone in jail she was forced into cold turkey withdrawal. Last thur4day she was sent to a mental health faciltiy because she is seeing things and hears voices. Please can anyone tell me is this somtimes part of the withdrawal or has she possible lost her mind.
Avatar f tn my partner was prescribed methadone for withdrawal from heroin in march 2008, he was on 225mg to stabalise him a day. Now he is down to 12.5mg per day and has decided that he wants off. the problem is he is epileptic and has to take medication for this daily. Can anyone please tell me how bad his withdrawal maybe and what advice can you give me as should he still take methadone but drop slowly or stop altogether. He hates the stuff .
Avatar f tn I do think you have to have a game plan that extends beyond the withdrawal period..if you do not then I agree..you will do this withdrawal process over and over again..in actuality we are often afraid of the easy part, as painful as it may seem, the withdrawal part is the easy part..
Avatar n tn Anyway, 8 monts ago i was recommended and scripted to use methadone by my key worker. Methadone does work in the way of preventing me getting sick from one hit to the next of heoin, but i still use and think about heroin. I cant get rid of this mental addiction, i find myself walking to my dealers house knowing i shouldnt and dont need it but still i go. help! Im due to go in to hospital for a 2 week detox useing lofexodine to come off of both very soon, what am i to expect?
Avatar f tn The level of misinfo on here about this subject is sad. Here are some facts: There is an EXTREMELY HIGH risk of miscarriage if you detox from methadone while pregnant. Lowering your dose WILL NOT mitigate neonatal withdrawal symptoms after birth. The fetus absorbs much of the dose, causing mom to be in constant withdrawal if dose is lowered, which is dangerous to the fetus. Federal methadone guidelines now recommend dosage increases during pregnancy. Yes, the baby will go through withdrawal.
Avatar m tn And you may have something there - you wouldnt be the first person to get off methadone by getting back on an opiate and then quiting.......methadone is a bear! Some research that I came across indicated that the rfesearchers couldnt tell much of a difference from quiting 30mg of methadone or 3mg - keep your nutrition up - the AminoAcidProtocol is very good. It even helps the "brain fog" that comes around.
Avatar f tn I know as a mother that it is not easy to see your child suffer, but understand, this is all part of recovery, your daughters body is undergoing many changes due to having little or no methadone, it will get better, but only if she stays off methadone. The symtoms of methadone withdrawals vary from person to person, mine were like riding a roller coaster, some days were good, then the next day Id feel as if I were back on my first day of detoxing, so shes gonna have good days & bad.
Avatar m tn sorry bama if i didn't specify more, really i ment to but got off track. mental withdrawal is kicking my a**. i wasn't referring to anything about the codeine i was only simply comparing the methadone with any type of opiate pill. methadone is a very strong drug and i just think it would be right that people are more educated on the pitfalls of it. when i walked in to that methadone clinic i was told nothing negative, and for 4 yrs it ruled my life.
Avatar m tn t understand going through the pain and discomfort of Methadone withdrawal only to jump onto yet another addicting substance--Subutex in your case. We do not give out dosing information, tapering information or anything of the sort. Especially in a situation like this--you need to do this properly and through your prescribing physician. Best of luck and I hope it all works out for you.
Avatar f tn GoingTo MakeIt is correct it can be mild or severe, from my own personal experience during my detox from methadone, it was bad during the first two weeks, but I still functioned, as best as I could anyway, I tapered down from 90mgs down to 2mgs then stopped, my symtoms were like many who stop methadone, no energy, depression, bad anxiety, couldnt sleep, sneezing, etc. It has been 2 1/2 months since being off methadone & I am back to my pre-methadone days, & very happy about my success!!!
Avatar m tn Yep right here!!...I swear, & not many people believe me, but my methadone withdrawal was almost like nothing!!...I was on it for 8yrs highest dose about 100mg, & from January to March 24, 2012 I tapered completely off...by myself..no Dr...I was 3months clean & started to have bladder/kidney pain, had some surgeries, got on oxycodone for that & am currently trying to taper off it...let me tell you, it has been beyond WORSE than the methadone!!!...
