Methadone withdrawal and psychosis

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone withdrawal and psychosis

methadose

Avatar f tn High dosage and long term use increases the risk and severity of dependence and withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal seizures and psychosis can occur in severe cases of withdrawal and anxiety and insomnia in less severe cases of withdrawal. Gradual reduction in dosage reduces the severity of the benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome. I'd rather use natural remedies like Amino acid supplements, diet and vitamins to get my neurotransmitters back up to par instead.
970581 tn?1248407961 The last 3 years. we put her in a metro Methadone clinic on liquid methadone. She has been very loving and sound and the best mom and grandmother you could ask for. She started messing with her methadone, (dumping out, wanting to quit, Taking extra etc..) She ran out and went through sever withdrawls out home. We found a hospital in Utah that would put her on a 2 week suboxone taper.
Avatar n tn who does one go and see about this sort of thing because i fear psychosis for her. she no longer feels safe in her house and has also developed agrophobia. her GP doesnt seem to do much other than prescribe further drugs. should she see a psychologist ? or psychiatrist? yours in confusion. also how long should withdrawal sympyoms last - she stopped lexapro a mnonth ago.
Avatar f tn I really hope this will help!
Avatar f tn Stop methadone first. Oc will help mask the severe withdrawal which will probably last a month or two since you have been on them for 7 years. Oc wont be a picnic, but it wont be near as long as methadone withdrawal. Imo, and I've gone through both withdrawals as well. Methadone by far sticks out like a sore thumb.
Avatar f tn m scared that I will get antipsychotic-withdrawal-induced tardive dyskenisia. What are the symptoms of withdrawal and how would withdrawal TD manifest itself? Can anyone who has tapered-off antipsychotics tell me about their experience? I am also afraid that I might not be stable enough with only lithium, which would make my psychiatrist want to put me back on Seroquel, which I DO NOT want.
Avatar f tn Hi I am also on methadone and Abilify and I think it is affecting the effects of the methadone let me know if you found anything out my email is mafiia.mii.
1909286 tn?1379435137 Hi medhelp friends, well, today is my 5th day off methadone and I have not stopped coughing, I don't have a cold or anything, just keep coughing like crazy!....I know for the 7+ yrs I was on methadone it seems like I never coughed at all. I know sneezing is part of the withdrawal, but coughing? I'm not sick at all, I know it probably sounds strange, but has this happened to any of you?........thanks in advance!...........
Avatar f tn There are a few members that will be along shortly that are experts in methadone withdrawal....Gnarly is kind of the resident expert on methadone withdrawal....He taught me a lot when I went through my withdrawal.....I honestly tell trusted friends that I would not wish methadone withdrawal on my worst enemy......BUT....It is beatable....I am sure you were not even getting close to being high from the methadone and it was more of a maintenance thing.....Keep going.....You can do this!
Avatar m tn Please get informed before you use subs. I hate to hear someone take a drug and THEN ask, "What's gonna happen?" I hope you are okay. Depending do dosage, it can take 3 days without methadone to induce subs. As a methadone addict, I can't even imagine precipitated withdrawal from that med. Let us know how you are.
Avatar f tn ll see your post and reply. He has quite a bit of experience with Methadone and withdrawal and he can advise and explain. In the meantime, look in the "health pages" upper right of this page. You'll see articles there related to Methadone and Suboxone/Subutex. They're very good. Be patient...it's late and things are slow but there are many who can share their experiences with you.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'll try to make this short. 15 years ago I had an awful Vicodin problem. For one year I took at least 20 Vicodin a day. Back then, I didn't know my options and went on to Methadone to quit the Vicodin. The Methadone treatment lasted 5 years!! For a one year problem it took 5 years to fix. It was so wonderful to be free from everything eventually. The Methadone was worse than the Vicodin. I stayed clean for years.
1311475 tn?1274198780 I have been on methadone for pain quite some years and clonazapam for the past 3 or so for anxiety. About 2 or more years ago the methadone just quit working, I continued to see my Dr. telling him that I had pain, this was after going off of the methadone and trying suboxone for pain, when the pain would not go away the Dr. put me back on the methadone. 90mg. 30 three times a day. my clonazapam had the same thing happen, one day it worked and the next it stopped.
Avatar m tn It sounds like withdrawal to me. Meds like methadone that have a very long half life are notoriously difficult to discontinue. If you can tough it out, your symptoms will eventually go away. Of course, then you can look forward to doing it all again with your next taper depending on how fast you do it. Detox is one of those things that you have to constantly tell yourself that you know you're going to feel awful, but it will be OK because it's only temporary.
Avatar f tn Since the person you describe is already addicted to methadone, if the pain problem is chronic and permanent, and the dosage is effective without being high enough to affect function, it might be better to just stay on it. If he/she gets off it, there will be misery from the withdrawals, in addition to the pre-existing pain, which will not be relieved by any other opiate as long as the methadone stays active.
Avatar n tn Actually I'm in the same boat. I'm 17 weeks pregnant and on 10mg. I've had 2 babies while on Methadone the 1st I was on 80mg and she had no withdrawals the 2nd I was on 40mg and she did have withdrawals and spent 12 days in the NICU and was on morphine. I was told it doesn't really depend on your dose if your baby does or doesn't withdrawal, it just depends on the baby. I'm definately trying to get off the Methadone before I have this one.
Avatar n tn the problem is that i am now starting to feel some bad withdrawals and am afraid that if i go lower i will be in total withdrawal which i heard is bad for the baby.also, will the baby go thru withdrawals if i stay on 1mg.and if i wean to nothing will the baby be okay and free of withdrawals?i have no idea what to do and feel like time is running out. please help.
620048 tn?1358018235 I know next to nothing about addiction medicine except that when we rotated through the nursery we dreaded the baby born addicted to methadone the most. They had withdrawal symptoms for weeks and months. For the infants (and I have read for the people addicted themselves) withdrawal is far harder from methadone than for heroin or other opiates. I don't know if this helps. As for it being worse in MS, I don't know.
Avatar m tn Jake, go ahead and start a new thread with your question. As for 'addicted 73', I have strong opinions from my own experiences with addiction and from what I see with patients.... opinions that you may resist hearing. I would be very surprised if a person taking a couple hundred of OC per day could leave the addiction behind.
Avatar f tn Methadone gets into your body different than other opiods and stays in your fat. When you go into withdrawal it starts to leach out and when it is all used up what is left in the fat finally comes out and that is when the secondary withdrawal happens. That's why it can take months. Another weird thing that can happen is when you take other opiods it can block the effects of the Methadone that is still in your system making your withdrawal even worse.
1170294 tn?1263316807 Alprazolam (Xanax) and methadone are highly addictive narcotics, both physically and psychologically. These two drugs should never be 'mixed' or even taken relatively close to one another unless the reaction is literally being monitired by a doctor and/or medical staff. I am an addict and I know from experience how dangerous this combination can be, trust me; you're playing with fire.
Avatar n tn Methadone is the hardest drug to quit Ive ever come across, and with her high dosage and depending on how long shes been on methadone the withdrawls are very hard to cope with. Its very likely you could hear voices and hallucinations when abruptly stopped at her levels, I hope she is getting some good care at the health facility. Ive never been through that process, and I know alot of states, counties are different in how they deal with methadone(opiod)dependence when they are arrested.
1909286 tn?1379435137 HI Teri your experiencing typical methadone withdrawal symptoms try adding potassium to the vitamins it should help other then that you just got to tuff it out and know it should only last a few more days typical methadone withdrawal is 7 to 10 days then it lets up the aches and pains can go just as fast as they came so dont loose face it all part of your recovery methadone is very cyclic just when you think you got it beat it comes back with a vengeance hang in there Teri your almost threw it n
541465 tn?1219427886 You're not clean off opiates if you take a whopping 12 ten Mg methadone a day. I'm a tolerant user, and that's WAY more than I take daily. Btw I took 5 tramadol and 2 methadone today, and it didn't send me into withdrawal. That whole line is a bunch a bull she©#.
Avatar f tn I was using oxycodone at the time, I think I most I ever took was 10 10mgs a day but my tolerance was just getting up there , way too high so I knew I needed to do something about that , so the doctors put me on methadone, and here I am 7 days later.
Avatar f tn vicki is spot on about methadone and xanax. I have been on methadone for 7 years and every doctor I`ve ever talked to has said that methadone and xanax is a bad mix. It is also true that tapering is the safest thing at his level. He needs to get to a much lower dose if he wants to go CT. Methadone withdrawls last a long time and the higher the dose, the worse the withdrawls are. Also check out the Thomas Recipe.
