Methadone vs suboxone

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone vs suboxone

methadose

Avatar n tn Im not sure how long its been since your dose of suboxone, but it always took me about 1hr before I would feel its effects. I was on methadone before going to sub, tapered down from 140mgs-30mgs, then started at 8mgs/suboxone. Im not really sure how methadone compares to morphine milligram wise, but if it doesnt help then talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose. You cant expect to feel great, but it should hold off the w/d's and cravings.
Avatar n tn wih shorter use suboxone is a little milder than methadone, but they honestly are both bad. I feel like methadone was a ebtter choice for me to get off opiates for good, but everyone is different and if suboxone works for you then stick with it. I was on sub for 8 months and it worked for a few but the cravigns started getting worse and worse and I eventually succumbed. I started a MMT program and feel much more prudctive and structured than being on suboxone.
Avatar f tn I was on methadone for a year and now I am on suboxone. I had a lot of terrible side effects from methadone. Weight gain, terrible damage on my teeth, ect... and I have only been on suboxone for about 4 months. My docor tells me that if you wean down slow enough, there should be little to no withdrawals. I haven't experienced it myself yet. But I know for me, suboxone saved my life. There are no miracle cures for addiction, everything has side effects. My opinion is that suboxone is safer.
747245 tn?1233944925 what dose are you at on methadone at the clinic?...
Avatar m tn I wanted to google the methodone vs suboxone options, not only for you, but for myself as well. I don't want to give any wrong advice. Anyway, hope this helps. God Bless. http://www.orangecountydetox.com/methadone_detox.
Avatar f tn This last time I quit methadone I tapered down over about 7months to 30mgs then over to suboxone. I started at 8mgs which was enough to take away all withdrawals and cravings for the most part. I was on sub for 18wks, the last month of which I was under 1mg, last two wks was down to about .25mgs before I quit. The w/d's were fairly bad but looking back not nearly as bad as I had experienced in the past when coming off high dosages of methadone.
Avatar f tn I am not allowed to say that I take methadone for pain relief. I can only say that pain relief is a side effect of methadone. Well this is fine and dandy until I started to travel for work. Clinic rules are strict and impossible to follow. Today I have had 3 doctors offer to take over my care, but none of them are legally allowed to prescribe me methadone.
Avatar m tn As far as how long. Wait at least 48 hours after your last dose of Methadone. If you take Suboxone sooner you will only be hurting yourself as you will get REALLY sick. (you may know that already) You have to be in stages of withdrawl from Methadone for Suboxone to work. You can make an appointment with a doctor who prescribes Suboxone now and he will let you know what you need to do. Thats what I did.
230262 tn?1316645934 First,I have never taken suboxone or subutex. However I have taken methadone for 5 years at a low dose of 30mg ,NOT,for pain but to keep off pills, and it has worked.100%. Wondering ,if you go on sub.,with it's ceiling, will there come a point that you may have to look at other alternatives anyway? This is a question only, but maybe one to consider. Methadone clinics are created in hell too.
Avatar f tn Will a month of low suboxine use give my body time to kick most of the methadone? Secondly, are suboxine withdrawls as bad as methadone and how long to they last? Thanks for any advice and any advise on alternative meds (vitamins/holistic) for withdrawls.
Avatar m tn I am on 30mls daily of methadone and now ready to go onto suboxone. Should in stay on methadone and detox off this or move onto suboxone and detox from that?
550931 tn?1219494820 I would maybe try to switch to Suboxone. Methadone is Satan and Suboxone is the Devil.......choose which is the lesser of the two evils......Your at a level where I think Suboxone may be a better option or the lesser evil??........ Luv, Nauty.............
Avatar m tn Even those on heroin would, in my eyes, benefit more from Suboxone therapy than methadone. Reading online, I have found out just how many lives have been lost to it. Ketelnutz, I would like it to be known that me and Goody's Back & Body Pain Powders are best friends. LoL I do even now get great relief inbetween narc pain meds from OTC's. The head games you speak of are terrible. I do understand that they will pass, but in the meanwhile...whew!
Avatar f tn keep in mind that revia is not good for your body, its suggested that you get a base line liver test every 3-4 months, its really hard for people to take this drug and not feel sick all the time, after all its narcan, if you are determined to stay on matience drugs for a while, the suboxone is probably safer than methadone, i am a fan of complete abstinance, but i understand people who go on matience, i myself was on methadone or suboxone for a really long time
Avatar n tn t know how the suboxone works vs the methadone. I know the methadone needs to leave your system before you take the suboxone. Is it even worth it for him to take the suboxone or should he just muscle through it?
Avatar f tn I have no problem for anyone switching from Methadone to Suboxone for the simple fact that Suboxone is infinitely safer than Methadone. Suboxone overdoses are almost non-existent. Plus, it's much more convenient for the person using it as maintenance. Either way, the best choice is the one the individual makes. Coming off either one is futile anyway if no aftercare or counseling is used as relapse is almost a given.
Avatar n tn is it harder to withdrawal from methadone vs. withdrawaling from lortabs? i was taking 10-15 lt's a day. i am not taking anymore at all. today is the first day i havent taken any. but i will be taking 30mg methadone for only a week, then i am going cold turkey. will it be easier withdrawaling from the week of methadone than it would be to just quit now and withdrawal from the lortabs?
