Methadone to suboxone

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone to suboxone

Avatar n tn Hello. I successfully transferred from methadone to suboxone and then quickly tapered off the suboxone over 3 and a half years ago. I did a methadone taper at home over the course of 6-7 months(?), reducing 5 mgs every week. Once I had lowered my methadone dose below 30mgs I checked into a residential medical detox facility. I was required to go 48 hours without methadone before I was allowed my initial dose of suboxone which was titrated every 4 hours untill I felt no discomfort.
Avatar f tn Hey all. I've been on 35mg methadone for 2 years and have to switch to suboxone for insurance reasons. The suboxone doctor just told me to skip one days worth of dose and come in "withdrawaling"... I'm scared that one day won't be enough and I'll go into precip withdrawals, but I don't want to go into full fledged withdrawal because I know I'll get high to alleviate the feeling and end up losing my job (I've been clean for the entire 2 years). Any tips?
Avatar m tn My best advice is find the sub doctor while still on the methadone and go from there with this so he can tell your husband how to get down to whatever dose of methadone he needs to be at to switch.
Avatar n tn yeah u are on a relatively low dose of temezepam and the best news is that you are at the cut off level for being able to switch to suboxone, you need to be on 30mgs or less of methadone to be able tos witch over otherwise bad bad wds unimaginable will occur..
1800740 tn?1324237171 I have an appointment later this week with a suboxone doctor. I am taking 30 mg. methadone & I'm going to try suboxone to help me get off the methadone. I am scared to death. I've heard negative things about people switching from methadone to suboxone. Can anyone offer me any advice? Has anyone gone through this? What does the dr. tell you? How many days do I need to be into withdrawals before starting suboxone?
Avatar n tn s, bought some methadone, and was hospitalized from an overdose that nearly killed him. If it seems crazy to take suboxone to detox from methadone, and then to OD on methadone to get over the suboxone withdrawal, that's because it is crazy, but it is a very possible scenario. He didn't intend to OD, but after 11 months he had no sense of his tolerance and took too much.
1800740 tn?1324237171 Can you tell me what milligram dosage suboxone he will prescribe for a 30 mg per day methadone user. Suboxone is very expensive & if I need more than 8mg per day I can't afford it in addition to the cost of the dr. visits.
Avatar f tn When you switch from Methadone to Suboxone you really need first taper the Methadone to or under the 30mg.Then you must wait for the methadone-withdrawal symptoms......the longer you wait to take the Suboxone the better it helps. A doctor who prescribed Suboxone when you on 100mg methadone 'plays' with persons life. And a bad and ugly message to people who kicked-in PRECIPITATED WITHDRAWAL because thet take their Suboxone to quick is; you cannot do anything about it.
Avatar n tn I've got spinal stenosis. An I'm in a lot of pain. I was on oxycontin when I was younger. Then switched to methadone. 8 years ago I switched to suboxone. I'm wanting to switch back to methadone because I'm in a lot of pain. An i can't afford to drive to the methadone clinic everyday.
Avatar m tn I heard from multiple people that Methadone is better for pain than Suboxone, and so I brought it up to my doctor. My Dr. agreed to switch me to Methadone, but not without a few caveats: 1) I will need to quit Amitriptyline because it interacts with Methadone. 2) He will only give me a maximum of 30 mg Methadone a day. I tried quitting Amitriptyline, but I started tingling and burning all throughout my body so badly that I had to go back on it.
Avatar m tn i only caught a glimpse of methadone wd when my dumb retarded young behind tried to take 5 to 10mg a day of it to detox from percocet big mistake you wanna talk about sick and i was at work but then i took percs to cover that wd up and got on suboxone..i dont know bc i never had to completely wd of it but i hop sub isnt as bad bc that is what i will be doing in 1 day from now i tapered as much as poss and 2mrw is my last dose...methadone oh my.....what to say about that...
Avatar n tn I switched from 30mgs of methadone to suboxone, but you have to wait 48-72hrs before your first dose or you can be thrown into precipitated withdrawals. When you take suboxone sublingually virtually none of the naloxone is absorbed, its there so people dont shoot them up. The other med buprenorphine is what actually blocks opiates just because it binds to the opiate receptors and basicly shields them from other opiates having an effect.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is definitely better than Methadone and is easier to get off of just don't overdue your Suboxone doses.
Avatar n tn when transitioning from methadone to suboxone, his dose is recommended to be between 20-30 mgs of methadone a day, he should be at this dose for at least 2 weeks...
Avatar n tn Yes, you can switch to Suboxone, but you'd have to be in withdrawels before starting it. Go to Suboxone.com and find a doctor near you. Call a few of them as the pricing varies. They should advise you how to proceed. If you have any questions about Sub, you can PM me.
Avatar n tn Yes, I just switched from methadone to suboxone, You will need to lower your dosage to at least 30mg but preferably 20 mg per day. Then you'll need to be in withdrawals from methadone. I waited 5 days and my switch was easy. If you don't detox from methadone you can go into precipitated wds & you don't want that! Have the doctor prescribe clonodine (blood pressure med) to ease wd symptoms. It's a lifesaver!
Avatar m tn I successfully transitioned from methadone to suboxone. but i was at a low dose 20-30 mgs daily, sometimes more, but rarely. you have to be at this dose of methadone before you can even consider suboxone.
Avatar f tn 3 weeks ago I made an appt for suboxone bc I was detoxing from methadone due to increasing charges at my clinic..they brought me down from 120mgs @ 10mg decrease per day..I came completely off of the methadone for a week(was taking oxy for that week to help with withdrawal) I finally got tired of chasing after pills and went back to the methadone clinic..so I am now up to 40mgs and have my suboxone appt monday @ 1:15..
1800740 tn?1324237171 Your not going to know for sure yourself until the day of. Just thinking about the methadone to suboxone transfer brings up a very bad memory of my transfer. I didn't know as much about maintenance drugs as i know now. I wish i knew then what i know now. I would never have this sick feeling in my stomach at the thought of my experience. I wouldn't wish it ln my worst enemy. Ok so i had been addicted for atleast 4years at the time. I started the methadone maintenance program.
Avatar n tn I waited 5 days & had an easy transition to suboxone. I did, however, drop to 20 mg methadone per day for 2 weeks prior to my induction then I went without methadone for 5 days. Dr prescribed meds to help ease wds & I actually had a pretty easy time. I took 4 days off from work.
Avatar f tn s gonna take some time for your body to make the switch and adjust to the suboxone. Your symptoms seem to be mild, although they may not feel that way to you right now! Please don't lose your focus. Stay strong!!! Take a hot bath and keep those fluids in you. Don't wanna get sick from the runs! : ( I know it's hard. I have been through it too many times to count. I'm clean now almost 10 months, and I'm so happy! You can do it! Hang in there a little longer!
631581 tn?1224844661 For some thats methadone, for others is suboxone. For some its methadone then suboxone is the next progressive step -- all steps towards the final goal of being drug free are good ones. My opinion is that suboxone is very powerful and should be regarded as such. It should be used very carefully. Unfortunately I have talked to many people, like myself, who started the subs to avoid withdrawal and ended up in a living nightmare when eventually going through sub detox.
Avatar n tn Anyway, my question was after I took the suboxone and went through withdrawels i still took methadone the next day because I was afraid to take anymore suboxone but after the withdrawels was i no longer addicted to the methadone? Should I not have taken it and would i have been over it? Would I have had to take more suboxone after the withdrawels or would I have been over everything.
