Avatar n tn Do you plan on discontinuing the methadone or do you want to stay on the methadone and go to pain management for procedures? Or additional medications? If you're on methadone for addiction, you may find it difficult to find a pain management doctor to take you on as a patient. However, if you're getting your methadone from a clinic, perhaps someone at the clinic would have a recommendation for you.
Avatar n tn I need to find a real pain management doc in my area who will prescibe Methadone - in my case it kills two birds with one stone...pain and the "H" Where can I find a doc who will prescribe Methadone for chronic pain in my area. I don't want to be on Percocet, Soma and all that... it did not work, (therefor the H) I live in Mentor OH. Any help from anyone?
Avatar m tn Hello Freakn, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. Your use of opiates at the least borders on the edge of abuse. I am not saying you have an addiction issue. You have not provided enough information to know if you are over using because the pain is not properly controlled or because as you said, "I want the buzz." I do not obtain a "buzz" from my opiates. Sure maybe the first day or so I had a bit of a fuzzy feeling but it didn't last and I didn't seek it.
2183581 tn?1369937547 I finally broke down and paid cash to see a pain management doctor in desperation hoping that he could help me get off the couch. It was a wonderful experience and well worth it he talk to me as if I was a human being not a drug seeker, and really listen to my problems. The outcome was a prescription for methadone I had severe anxiety about taking methadone because of the bad reputation that it has. Needless to say I took the perscription and got it filled and started taking the methadone.
Avatar n tn If your retired physician keep good records valadiating your need for pain medication and your level of pain you should not encounter as much difficultly obtaining pain control meds as someone who is starting from scratch. They may want to repeat some tests to evaluate where you are now and if you have had any changes over the past 11 months. But I'm sure I am not telling you anything you don't already know. Good luck in your search. I am sorry your pain has increased.
Avatar f tn He has been on methadone for 15 years for severe chronic back pain. Before the methadone he could barely get out of bed. Now, 15 years later, he would like to get off the methadone and explore other options. He has come up against a wall because the doctor that has been treating is now refusing to treat him anymore because of a drinking problem. He has tried to quit drinking several times but drinks about three beers a day, just to keep from shaking. Also, he has a pacemaker.
Avatar f tn I had been taking 100mgph Fentanyl Transdermal Patch, 8 mg Dilaudid up to 5 times a day and was still hardly able to function. My pain management doctor wanted to add Methadone to the mix and try to back of the other two. My primary care doctor is the one who writes the scripts and is scared of Methadone (I was at first until i did my research) and is not prescribing as much as my pain management doctor is wanting him to. I am currently at 20 mg 2 x per day.
Avatar f tn I just recently moved to the Birmingham area and have used Methadone for pain management for many years are there any physicians in the Birmingham area who prescribe Methadone for. Hronoc severe pain respond to Cot.
1050179 tn?1253899186 Chronic pain patients who have limited access to opioids may be redirected to methadone maintenance centers for management of their pain. Unfortunately, little information exists on the incidence and characteristics of methadone maintenance patients with chronic pain. The aim of this study was to survey individuals at methadone maintenance centers in order to determine the prevalence of chronic pain and to explore differences between patients with and without pain in this treatment setting.
Avatar n tn Some people find methadone a good pain management medication. It was suggested by my pain management doctor to try it. I had been on a lot of medication and at very high doses. What kind of doctor do you see for your pain? If you shared a little more information about the kind of pain you have, how long you've had it, and how you've tried treating it, you may get more responses on people who've had similar problems.
11214965 tn?1416269155 Thanks so much I needed that information I was really scared to tell them they had me on Methadone at first visit which made me really loopy but it helped the pain now I'm wondering if I should ask for the methadone back I just didn't like the loopy feeling but this morphine is just like taking an aspirin thanks so much,,,, nice meeting you I thought I would never get this question answered so I'm going in this Moday and explaining to them my pain level I just had a heart and lun
Avatar n tn These drugs have Tylenol in them and this will only harm you further. You need a pain reliever without the Tylenol such as Oxycodone, Oxycontin, Morphine or Methadone. Other than the Oxycodone, the other medication that I have mentioned are what is called the " Big Dog" pain relievers. These drugs must be really thought out as they are hard to come off of in the event that you do not need them anymore.
Avatar n tn s beneficial in pain reduction and control for you that seems to be the important fact. I have read some great articles on the benefits of methadone for pain management. Some physicians beleive it is the best route. I have also heard some chronic pain patients state the withdrawal is the worst. However other patients name different drugs and claim the same. I really beleive it's what works for the individual.
Avatar m tn you do build up a tolerence to methadone also it is an opiate I was put on it for pain management went from 30 mg to 150ml over a 6yr period then it quit working all together leaving me with a huge addiction to break free from.....hands down methadone is the worst of the narcotics to break free from the withdrawals last for months not weeks I would run the other way if I was ever offered it again do yourself a favor and stay away from this drug good luck and God bless......
1774104 tn?1314215207 I would think that if you are truly addicted versus dependent, than Subutex or methadone may be a good fit for you. My pain management team had discussed using methadone with me for pain management. I have some nerve pain that seems to be very difficult to treat with narcotics. But after doing a lot of research, I decided that methadone wouldn't be the right fit for me. I have seen some articles recently regarding Subutex/Suboxone with regard to pain control.
Avatar n tn I am taking methdone and hydrocodone compound for pain management. I need better pain control, does anyone have any knowledge on which one would be safer to increase before I ask my doctor. I am asking for opinions.
Avatar m tn PLEASE be aware of several things with Methadone - if you are unable to find a pain management doctor to prescribe you sufficient medication and you decide to go to a methadone clinic, you MUST tell them you are an addict, and not coming for pain management. If you even mention that you're using the clinic for pain, they will send you away. Just remember, methadone is very effective, but also very addictive! Good luck!
16785591 tn?1451596681 I understand your wife's concern. Seniors have to be especially cautious when taking opiates - or most any medication. That's another long subject that I will avoid at this time - but it is a fact. There are multiple sources on Methadone in pain management. There are also good and and not so good outcomes in using Methadone for pain management. I'll be honest with you - it scares me - especially in seniors. About ten years ago my PMP ordered it for me on a trial bases.
4832551 tn?1359761830 I was wondering if I took a 4th of one after not taking a strip no bigger than 1 cm , would I suffer worse w/d symptoms or would it take this horrible pain away and then I could just keep tappering off methadone until I feel better. I am not wanting to take methadone to get high, just be functional again enough to get back to work. Is it safe to take methadone after not taking 1 cm strip of suboxone over 12 hours prior?
Avatar f tn I would like toe closer to my family After 35 years my pain management doctor retired, without reffering us to a new doctor. The new pain management office told me they doubted I would be given methadone, when I see the doctor in early Sep. I am an IT Pro who needs my brain, in order to work the part-time hours I'm able to handle. I have spinal stenosis, cord damage, scoliosis, xiphoidalgia(new occurance) ribs that dislocate at the 9 & 10 Thoracic region.
Avatar m tn Wish I could help more with other pain management options as I suffer from chronic pain myself. There is a pain management forum here on med help. Maybe try and post your question there and I'm sure you will get plenty of support! Here's the link.... http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Pain-Management/show/53?camp=msc Best of luck to you!
Avatar m tn Were you seeing a pain specialist before or were you seeing your family Dr?I'm asking because if was your family Dr some of them know little about how to manage chronic pain. A pain specialist does. That's what I would recommend, getting in to see a pain specialist. Ask your family Dr to recommend one or you can do your own research on the internet to find one with high patient ratings. One that truly understands their patients and their needs.
