the new pain clinic wants me to take (30 mg of long acting morphine) with (10 mg of methadone) every 8 hrs.....(30 mg methadone total per day)...(90 mg morphine total per day)....the problem is getting down to 30 mg of methadone...been on at least 100 mg of methadone for 25 years ...the morphine does nothing for or does not cover the methadone withdrawals.....my new docs wanted me to get down to 30 mg methadone in 6 weeks....
I got pregnant in 2010 with my first son and was using oxycotoin, soon as i found out i wss pregnant i got on methadone. When he was born i was on 95ml and he came out fine and only scored up to 2. I have been on methadone since then and just had another boy that was born jan 29 2014, i was on 75ml and his score was all the way to 15 before they decieded to put him on morphine.
I have been on a high dose of Methadone for a number of years for Chronic pain. I go to a clinic but recently asked my doctor if he would take over my care and switch me from going to the clinic, over to a time released morphine pill I can take once or twice a day. He won't write me Methadone and is reluctant to do it at all because he's never had a patient that he's had to transfer from methadone to a morphine pill before .
Hi! That all sounds like a plan until you got to the part about methadone. I wouldn't start methadone. If you can stop for five days, why would you want to do the methadone? The physical WD will be much better after the five day mark, so starting methadone at that point will only give you another drug to detox from. AND.....it's a detox that will be much harder than the morphine one will be. The fact that you have lots of vacation time will help a LOT.
I just spent 8 days in the hospital. I was given 15mg of morphine every hour. They released me
with nothing and that is fine. Accept I feel like I am dieing. I am so scared, I dont know what is

I pretty much thought it had something to do with the morphine. Any advice? He needs it for his back. My view is morphine is probably better than any other of the narcotic analgesics because it is the most natural and has been around for centuries. I certainly would not want him on oxycontin or fentanyl. Is Opana ER any better? Need advice from doctor preferably or someone who has an idea what they are talking about regarding this matter.
The Morphine does not equal the Methadone. If you have never taken Morphine before you could be having a allergic reaction our the wd is too much. You need to call a ambulance if you are having seizures! If you are not prone to them I do not understand your hubby's attitude but take care of yourself if he will not recognize you need Help! I was kicked off the methadone programe for take clonazapam I was on Methadone program for year and 1/2 so my methadone doctor kicked me out of the program and did not wean me off so my family doctor put me on morphine so I would not go thru withdrawal how long should it take me to do this and be withdrawal free
Im not sure how long its been since your dose of suboxone, but it always took me about 1hr before I would feel its effects. I was on methadone before going to sub, tapered down from 140mgs-30mgs, then started at 8mgs/suboxone. Im not really sure how methadone compares to morphine milligram wise, but if it doesnt help then talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose. You cant expect to feel great, but it should hold off the w/d's and cravings.
Morphine is preferred for the treatment of COPD because a doctor can better control its effect on breathing, however, both morphine and methadone work in similar ways -- it is just that methadone suppresses the breathing longer. At end of life, it doesn't matter much which medication you use.
If your husband had an allergy to morphine, then methadone is definitely the proper medication to give.

using narcotics during detox is not a real good idea as it is not defined as a detox if u r taking them....it will prolong this even longer if u continue...what was ur original dose? and DOC?...u may have needed to taper down a bit if it was a high dose...if u detox and quit taking narcotics the amount u used daily and the DOC can help determine how long til u feel better plus age, nutrional status and other things....1 week for most...2 weeks for some til the physical symptoms are gone...

I have tried Fentanyl maybe 5 yrs. ago...it didn't seem to work...could have been too modest a dosage by the physician...I mean, how do you know...but I think spitfire was the best answer...I've been on methadone/morphine mix, the latter for breakthrough pain, so because of pain seeming worse, the doc incr. methadone by 20mg/day, and I start feeling just like spitfire described opana...don't need that, although doc offered it.
I'm 5 wks off methadone. Doctor put me on morphine, then raised it, then patches. Now the patches are not staying on. I'm having to replace them and I'm hurting in my back (had 2 back surgeries) and so sick. I think it's side effects from patches. Should I continue wearing them?
That is an interesting question, but I suspect it is not the one you really want to ask. Methadone per se, does not damage the heart, however long term use of methadone does slightly increase the mortality from heart disease. The etiology (and reasoning) is as follows. (1) Methadone affects respirations. A person on methadone will have a slighty-less that optimal resting breathing rate.
Trying to figure out why this new pain specialist that I went to..to get off methadone would change me to morphine instead of lower my doses of methadone. It's been awful for me. He just seems to get too upset when I tell him I can't take the morphine and he has just continued to increase it. Then put me on fentany patches. I've told him over and over I don't want to continue on the morphine. He just kept saying that this didn't make any sense.
I was also on Methadone, which worked great, but when we moved to Seattle, I could not find a doctor willing to prescribe Methadone and had to switch back to Morphine. I have been on the Morhine for 2 years now, fentynoal 1 year prior to that, Methadone 1 year prior to that. The only options I have are pain medication or the freezing and destruction of my abdominal nerve centers.
Hey thanks for answering. I have heard about the precip withdrawals and actually experienced them back in '98 when a clinic in L.A. was just starting a bupe study with meth patients and either didn't know or just didn't tell us to wait before induction.UGH!! What I'm confused about though is why when I have switched from the meth to the morphine and have already lowered my morphine dose ahead of schedule, I am not experiences more withdrawal.
There was a girl at my clinic who was pregnant and on methadone. The doctor said ct would be worse then staying on methadone. But I don't know I'm not a doctor?
Have you talked with them about switching you to generic MS Contin (Morphine Sulfate Extended Release) instead of methadone? Morphine is a blood vessel dialator which lowers blood pressure and reduces strain on the heart. Morphine is a first line medication that paramedics use on victims of a heart attack to reduce the pain and lower their blood pressure which helps the heart not have to work as hard. My blood pressure was the most controlled when I was being treated with Morphine.
