I wondered if prescribed medications for chronic pain like methadone, fentanyl etc show up on the test and what happens if it does?
I am pretty familiar with methadone, I detoxed off it 2 years ago. I had to use subs to get away from methadone, I believe methadone is one of the most difficult drugs to kick and can be a nightmare, but I have seen it save lives too. I have a young friend ( mid twenties) who takes from 3 to 5 methadone 10 mg. a day. I want to advise her the right way how to handle getting off this medication. The meds are not perscribed to her so I know she won't talk to her Dr. about this. She is about 3 months pregnant. People say stopping it totally will put too much stress on her and baby. But I'm afraid her baby will be born addicted and go thru withdrawal.

I passed all except for methadone, which I am legally prescribed and have been for almost 3 years. What caught my attention was they did not test me for barbituates or methamphetamines but they tested for methadone? Anyways I show the nurse my state registry card that verifies I am legally prescribed methadone and she says "Ok no problem" she then tells the manager where I am trying to get the job that I tested positive but I am prescribed it. No big deal, or so I thought.

My opinion is if one is in a life threatening situation and/or breaking laws due to their addiction, theft, violence, etc... Methadone is better than death or a life in prison. Yes, one still has to detox the methadone, but the steady supply and long half life help keep a level blood serum of opioid in one's system.
Well Ive been on Methadone for almost 11 months now. I started when my grandmother was dying. I was taking 60-80 mgs a day. I was getting it from a friend..i havent taken any for 6 days now. My legs hurt,I want to move them all the time,Im super aggravated,restless,annoyed and just pissed off that I started this dumb drug. I been taking Opiates on and off since I was 15-16 Im 30 now...enough is enough...
She was able to get and appointment tomorrow at a methadone clinic. She wants to to take methadone for the two weeks before her addictionologist appointment. She doesnt want the clinic to know. I told her to be honest at the clinic so she doesn't have some type of reacton. Do you know if there would be an issue? I can't talk to the clinic because of the privacy laws.
The bottom line is that 5 years later after i moved due to my husbands work, I find myself in a state that doesnt have the same laws as SC and if I am to continue taking methadone i would have to enter a drug program and be treated with other addicts. What i am wondering is it possible to safely get off of this?
Has anyone been success at detoxing off of methadone from a clinic? I'm so over the weight gain and need to either find a way to lose it or detox. I'm scared of failure at both.
Me and baby girl are off to mother in laws. Where I can detox and I will have help with her. I'm so scared.
The only thing that she warned me about was that she wanted me to take the methadone AND the Vicodin together for a few days because since the methadone has such a long half life, it takes about 3 days for it to build up in your system and start working. She didn't want me to start taking the methadone after the Vicodin ran out because I would essentially have had no coverage for a day or two until the methadone kicked in.

190mgs of methadone is a pretty hefty dose.I'm not sure you can blame the methadone for why he is 'messed up' all the time though,given he is abusing all the other drugs you mentioned.I will tell you that mixing methadone with other drugs you are abusing,especially benzos [the xanax] can be a fatal mixture and THAT could kill him.It's really not possible for us to tell you what his dose should be.
