I would leave the meds given to your baby up to the hospital. I dont think you really will have a say in what she is given. I hope and pray she is okay.

Thank you Jaharonov for your response. Althought, I feel like I'm about to have a panic attack as I knew this was not right to treat her with the methadone. She has been on it for a total of 12 days now. They just lowered her dosage to .2 twice a day. Yes, a social worker was involved and tried to get me to say, at a meeting with the doctors, that I agreed with the treatment. I did not agree and we never gave then consent to administer the first dose to begin with.

I dont understand why we are given methodone as a substitute for what ever we are taking when I have read so many articales on people becoming addicted to it , isnt it just swapping one drug for another/??? . Can this be clarified for me as I was also offered it from the Dr .

I KNO METHADONE AND NUBAIN SHOULN'T BE TAKEN TOGETHER.HOWEVER MY OB MADE A MISTKE AND GAVE ME NUBAIN WHILE AT THE HOSPITAL.I LOST MY BABY COULD THIS BE A DIRECT RESULT FROM THE WITHDRAWL BROUGHT ON BY THESE TWO DRUGS?IT WAS THE WORSE EXPERIANCE I HAVE HAD.

He said I had a very low dose addiction and he started me on a low dose of Methadone 10mg 3 X day and we are going to try to get me off of it before I have the baby.. I have found the 10 mg to be to strong so he has me cutting it in half taking 5mg 2 X a day. Anyway what I am wondering is, why use Methadone to get off of Hydrocodone? Its seems like overkill in a sense, as it is stronger than the hydro in the first place (right)?

HI if you want to do thew switch you have to wait till your in withdrawals from the sub b/4 going on the methadone both of these drugs should only be given by a doctor it is not wise to self administer ether one do find a doctor that can help good luck and God bless..........

after some time he was given methadone to come off the morphine. he came home from the hosp on feb 19th and had been off the methadone about a couple days. he has crying episodes and seems in pain. his mom called the nurses who told her he could be having withdrawal. no one told us about any of this when he was discharged. not sure how to help our little man and how long to expect this. any help?

I was at 150ml for 6 1/2yrs I did a relatively fast taper it took 8 1/2 mo but thats 1/2 the time it would take at the clinic....I used a formula given to me by a neo/natal nurse that brings babys off heroin methadone oxy ext... it goes like this 10% drop in dose every 72hr ...it worked good for the most part but sometimes you just have to wait a little longer like a day or 2 extra to get use to the dose ...

Can doctors give methadone to a baby that is NOT born to a drug addicted mother? What if the baby is premature with some complications plus on other medications? I have researched on the internet and can't find anything about this. All I can find is if the baby was born to drug addicted mothers. I would like to know what other neonatologists think about using this drug on infants. I'm trying to understand this situation I'm in. Thank you!

I detoxed on the baby formula for getting off methadone and it works well its just important so they can be prepared they will need to know how much your taking to ween the baby off when it comes....there is no comfortable way to ween yourself off 30 or 40 ml in a month time and even doing it slow has its pains so your going to have to deliver your baby on it ...

I would never think of administering anything to the baby! The hospital gave the baby methadone to help with her withdrawels from the adult strength opiates they had been giving her for nearly a month to sedate her. Suboxone helped me withdraw from massive amounts of ocycontin, oxycodone, and morphine with basically no wd's. I was just wondering if the dr.s could give the baby some form of suboxone to help her with the wd's from methadone.

Hi, I was on 75mg fentenol patch for awhile. It stoped working on me, so the doctor switched me to methadone. I had no side effects from methadone. If I am right, are you taking it twice a day? Do you have a medicine for breakthrough pain between the methadone dose? Methadone is a long acting med. ususally it last up to 12 hours. I myself am on 10mg methadone 2xday. and dilauid for breakthrough(4mg). I take the methadone in the morning and at bed time. I take the others at lunch and dinner.

t think that oxys are strong enough to counteract the methadone..how many oxys would you have to take a day to begin with? how much methadone are you on right now? I think either way you know this is hard..I would say the only thing you can do is try it..I wish I knew the answer to this. I would think I'd rather go cold turkey off oxys..but you are already on methadone. I am sorry..

t want to give birth to another baby addicted to methadone do you? You have to know how painful that must be for the baby. Plus,, won't the dr know when the baby is born that there is an addiction? My question is the day after my daughter gave birth by emergency c-section she was sent home without any medical intervention to help her adjust her insulin which needed to be decreased as well as the Methadone. She was given pain meds and sent home. A few days later while visiting her baby in the hospital the nurses observed my daughter behaving strangely and stated she appeared 'intoxicated'. My daughter was banned from seeing her baby for a week.

the problem is getting down to 30 mg of methadone...been on at least 100 mg of methadone for 25 years ...the morphine does nothing for or does not cover the methadone withdrawals.....my new docs wanted me to get down to 30 mg methadone in 6 weeks....for me it was way to fast, so were kind of negotiating my detox for the time being.....just would like some of your thoughts on the subject....atavan seems to help with anxiety...

My gf had two of our four kids on 20mg of methadone a day with the babies showing no signs of withdrawal. Might be safer to stay on your methadone till u have the baby..maybe try to lower your dosage down as much as u can before the baby comes..either way consult a professional on switching.

Ya you do not want to start that methadone. it sucks trying to kick. the w/d's are the worse.. Never seen anything like it... If its only been a 2 week run. maybe the w/d's will not be to bad?? I guess that also depend on how long you were clean, before you 2 week run..

The point i am getting to is how safe is it to withdraw while being preg.? I do not want to hurt my baby anyway, please help! I would get off asap. You need to talk to the clinic and your ob about steps to take to get off the drug. Methadone causes serious dependency and side effects. Good luck! I was 19 when I kicked heroin and oxys (2001) and have never looked back. A good detox might help too.

I am trying to find out if my increased level of pain was caused by withdrawal from narcotics.The only way for me to find out is for me to get off methadone all together.Then see what my pain level is.Only problem is the withdrawal pain is driving me insane.From what I have read about methadone withdrawal its going to be quite some time before all withdrawal syptoms are gone.I deal with depression also and while on methadone there are alot of anti-depressant meds you can not mix with methadone.

Hi! I am also pregnant and am on methadone. If you are pregnant and on methadone there is absolutely NO reason why you shouldn't go ahead and have your baby if you want to! Admittedly at first i thought the best thing to do might be to get off of it but this was not the case. My husband was also worried about me being on methadone (and so was i) until we became educated on what that means for mother and baby. Here is what i have found out.

Methadone can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how it's used. It was originally used as a treatment of last resort for hard core heroin addicts and helped a lot of people. Now it's used too frequently for pain pill users who really didn't have fit the old criteria and these people are given as much methadone as they want. What happens with this is that these lighter addicts are now hooked on methadone instead of being hooked on vicodin .

The pills are not that expensive either and once you see the doc you only have to go there to pick the scrip up to take to the pharmacist. If you can get down way low on the Methadone the w/ds will not be as bad. With the Subs you will still have detox from them too. What ever you decide I sure wish you the Best.
