yes the longer your on methadone the longer it takes to get all out of your system,... I am also on methadone... Did u have any side effects from methadone..

I hate seeing people strung out on this stuff but I hate it even more to see people make the foolish mistake of jumping to high....methadone is a powerful drug you will see as you taper....coming off it if you been on it a wile can take a wile to recover if you on it a short time recovery is quicker we can get into this after you answer the questions I will look for you post later on......

Hi..You said she was in a clinic and getting Methadone..Was she on another drug that they used to help her come off of?? You got some great advise from the above posting..We all were on the Methadone..I however got myself down from a Very High dose to 30mgs..I was on this for about 12 years with 2 other meds..I did go c/t and it was not easy...Like they said Slow & Easy..But if she is tired of it she can jump off the Boat at Anytime..

This is not the intended purpose of methadone maintenance. If you still want to continue getting high i strongly reccomend you discontinue with the methadone. Methadone is notorious for making it difficult to get any kick off of illicit narcs and the buzz from methadone is nowhere near as pleasant. , i hope you do some more research, i have a couple of sites i can giude you to if you like, i am not about forcing my views on people, just expanding knowledge, i was on sub and methadone so long, it would be a sin not to share my experience and ideas being on these drugs and getting off them, the key word being "off"

But, if I taper very slowly, will that help with any withdrawal symptoms I may have, once I stop completely? Any suggestions or experience anyone has is appreciated? Is 50mg of Methadone/day a high dose of Methadone? Thanks everyone!

Hi - just wanted to update you on my methadone detox, this forum is a nice place to vent & get some answers.. im now on my 3rd day of 0 methadone after detoxing myself. i went on methadone for the same thing as some of u - thinking 'harm reduction'. i can't rag on it too bad b/c i'm a lot better now than i was before. before i was always hitting the streets to re-up, getting in trouble at work for taking long lunches to meet my dealer (who of course are always slow).

it would make the methadone wds somewhat lighter and easier to pass with, but you are running a fine line in getting your habit back with benzos again by doing so, methadone wds are by far the worst out of any opioid out there so i would take some benzos to ease some of the utter misery and be able to get some sleep..

dont get me wrong, the best i have ever felt in the past 12 years of addiction were the couple of years i was taking 200mg/day of methadone but finally realized i just traded my illegal high for a legal one. it took me 15 month to tapper down and withdraw from that high of a dose and when i was done i went right back to heroin, doh!

HI.....unless you asbsullty have to come off at 65 I would highly recommend tapering down to the single digits....if there is no choice just know it can be done we have had members dorced off as high as 120 as make it threw....the first thing I recommend is go to walmart and pick up a 3 in one vitamin ...Calcium/Magnesium/zinc and take 4 in the morning and 4 at night in a few days this will lighting up your withdrawals by no meens will it eliminate them but it will bring some releaf ....

Then changed over a 6 month period to methadone. Took 20 mg of methadone for about 10 wks and 25 mg for 2 weeks. New doctor changed me to morphine 40 mg a day(said it should be the say as methadone I was on) I went into w/d's He increased to 60mgs. Still couldn't function so he put me on fentenyl 50 one a day for one wk. I got much worse. He raised to two 50 fentenyl patches. I've been out of work for several days.

I've read a lot of posts and I'm having the weirdest detox I've ever had in my entire life. I've been on opiates for 6 years, methadone (~80mg/day) for 2 years. During the two years, I gained a lot of weight due to testosterone loss from the Methadone. I'm 14 days into this hell and it's getting worse as the days go by. i have been on methadone for 12 yrs started at 19 am 30 now tried 4 times getting off it tried going down 5 a month tried cold turkey tried clonidine every tranquilizer known to man i had a seizure almost died last time i tried coming off i am fearful i will never get off it because my withdrawls are so bad i wouldnt even wish it on hitler please someone help me i am scared for myself

you should be fine jumping off 2mg is very doable expect to not be yourself for a few days and the physical withdrawal can last a week getting off methadone is hore of a post methadone story then the actual detox.....

At this point I have tried everything so I am shooting this straight from the hip.. (pun intended) Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get Methadone prescribed. I have not asked my primary directly for this. He dose give me Vicodin however I have tried Methadone and it dose not make me "high" when I take it at a low dose and I get a large amount of relief. thank for anyone that will reply with honest help. I'm on about 60-90 mm of roxycotton a day, I have 10 tabs of 10 mm methadone. I want to get off the oxy will methadone help? I don't want the withdrawals getting off oxy will methadone help with that? Is one a day enough?... When I finish the 10 days then I'm ok to not take anymore?

Hello, I really need to get off oxycontin, but I don't want to use methadone or any other drug. I would use them, but I have several friends on them and they're much worse than they were on oxy. Everytime I see them they're all nodding out, sleeping, etc. Also, they've been on the methadone so long, and I don't want to be dependent on anything. I really can't be nodding out at school, work, during my household responsibilities, etc.

I dont want to go back to where I was, which was running the streets looking for medicine. Before methadone I was addicted to hydrocodone and soma for 10 years. Methadone saved my life in the sense that I got my life back. I had a great job that I loved, spending time with the kids, and I completely left the streets behind. It gave me a normal life. Now I feel trapped again because I'm dependant on methadone and it is starting to make my life not so normal anymore. I just want off!!

Im starting saboxone in two days. Ill be on 30ml's of methadone. i have two children and a company to run.is this a hard transition and is 24 hr long anoph to go of the meth befour starting sub. if enyone hase exsperince please h e l p.

That's way too high a dose to stop the methadone. I'm sure he knows that and that's why he's inducing you with Subutex. What did they tell you to do before going in on Tuesday? Did they tell you to stop at that dose? I think you should take some Methadone so you feel better and call the doctor first thing in the morning! I don't think you'll be in any condition to drive on Tuesday if you're 5 days without Methadone.

Ive always been a person who likes to taper my dose down before quitting, but Ive known people who have quit cold turkey of doses above 150mgs. Now getting off methadone without any withdrawals, no that is basicly impossible, but I believe you can minimize it to a point if you get your dose as low as possible. Im not sure of how your taking it, whether from a clinic, doctor or just off the street, but I would seek some sort of professional care to help you through the process.

Hi everyone... okay so I just recently found out that I'm pregnant and I'm getting clean on my own because drugs aren't worth it, and I don't want to harm my child in anyway!! I'm 5days clean so far and it's been easy because I know the harm it could cause my child.. but addiction is hard for anyone! I have thoughts about getting high but I don't want to! So does anyone have any suggestions on how to get threw this without harming my unborn child??

This right there is the main problem and why MMT is getting such a bad wrap. Methadone is strong medication and should be given only to recovery opiate addicts, cancer pts or other pts with a SEVERE dibilitating disease and only AFTER trying other types of medication for pain mgt. It floors me that he would prescribe it for a kidney infection, I don't care how bad of an infection it was.
